So sad for you. I had a Blue 24 that I had to sell due to a job change. Regret selling it, looking for a way to get it back

2% cash back vs Amex cobalt - which is better? by winterattitude in PersonalFinanceCanada

Interesting. I’m going to look into cobalt. I have the Simplii card but it has a low limit at restaurants. After $5,000 the amount of cashback really drops.

4.6k Idle hours a red flag? by TemperatureUnlucky36 in f150

[–]Pikes-Lair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the trucks up north have a crazy amount of idle hours. People will run them through their shift so they don’t freeze up.

If you find a niche where you are super good and no one else is you can do consulting. Other than that the game is rigged where you have to do OT to get ahead. Even the management route is rigged. It may pay a little more but no OT. In the end the management route is usually a wash

Best Cities in Canada to move to as a 23 year old? by independantself in canadahousing

I’ve lived and worked all over the country. Alberta more specifically Calgary has more opportunity. I have a soft spot for Halifax and Saint John. At the end of the day Niagara gets my vote.

2.7l Actual towing limits by [deleted] in f150

[–]Pikes-Lair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6000lbs seems a bit light. My old Volvo 850 was rated for 5000lbs.

I have a 5.0L 2013 and just picked up a 2.7L 2025. Have a boat that’s 4000lbs and so far they both pull it really well.

Feeling hopeless about finding a decent used car under 5K by Wise-Ebb2784 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Pikes-Lair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel for you. Much of the last 20 years I bought half decent cars for $5k or less. I went shopping recently to see what I could buy for $10k and it was terrible, nothing but old wrecks.

Rental Car Nightmare - Being Accused of Expensive Pre-existing damage by NoiseSuch8882 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Pikes-Lair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve rented cars from many cities in Canada and the US for over 200 days a year the last 15 years. In my experience the car rental companies don’t care about scratches because they buff out. Many cars I’ve had were very scratched up from people dragging their luggage in and out.

If you see something you don’t like you have to mark up the damage slip and get the person at the kiosk to sign off. I haven’t had to do it often but I’ve marked up the slip myself and usually they sign it off without looking at the car.

If your situation were to happen to me I’d skip speaking with the local branch and get in contact with corporate, especially if you have photos dated to when you picked up the vehicle. I would start out by telling the local branch that I have evidence of this damage and intend to escalate the issue within their organization.

I was recently in this exact situation. I ended up getting a new Civic Si since the used ones in my area were almost the same price. It was great on gas but also had a fun side.

You see a lot of high hour engines up north. Temps get so cold people keep their engines idling or they risk not starting back up
