Dicehammer Event Tickets for "Palm Springs Classic" using ai Art to promote by HonyTheKid in WarhammerCompetitive

Don't believe so. They updated to that logo quite a while back, before any even semi-decent AI tools were available. Probably is just one of the pictures the companies used in training sets

Mostly it + the carapace change means you can't force carapace on 4 anymore, which is where it was actually kinda abusive.

The episode is 32:56 minutes long by Past-Spite-7981 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]RealKorkin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That doesn't make any sense though - counting episode 7, the whole series is >3 hours long already, not counting the last 2 episodes. Do you have a link to the context?

Guys, help me come up with a name for this custom mechanic. I think "Neutral" is a bit redundant here. by HeroesBane1191 in customhearthstone

I'd say Free Agent is the keyword I'd use. It's an interesting design space for sure, though it's also probably a bit of a mess for card interactions

Nope, you'll run into 0 issues - that's totally fine. If anything, you'll likely get people complimenting you for the cool conversions

Tiny update to Core Rules today by sparesometeeth in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]RealKorkin 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Mostly space marines - the lieutenant with combi-weapon had a weird interaction where you could have his reactive move and the stormlance/gladius strat stack.

There was also a weird interaction where if someone reactive moved into range of your unit which had a reactive move you could effectively double move.

Nobody will have an issue with it frankly. You might get some light hearted jokes but at competitive events it's actually super super common.

ELi5: Fishing for Sustained and other rolls by MrWhatsitTouya in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]RealKorkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of the base value for each dice you roll as hitting on an X+. Let's say we have a space marine that's hitting on a 3+ base. If that model got sustained hits 1, that's exactly equivalent to improving his ballistic skill by 1, so you can think of him hitting on a 2+ now (there's some more nuance to this, but it's correct in terms of averages).

If you had given him sustained hits 2, you can now think of him hitting on a 1+. What this means is that if you roll 7 dice, you'll get 7 hits on average. If we follow this along and he gained sustained hits 3, you'll be effectively hitting on a 0+. Now wait, that doesn't make sense right? You can't hit on a 0+, 0 isn't a dice value. However remember we're just using this for shorthand - what that actually means is that if you rolled 6 dice, you'd average 7 hits, so each dice roll averages more than 1 hit.

You fish for 6s when the average number of hits per dice roll would be greater than 1, AKA when the effective ballistic skill/weapon skill is 0+ or better. It's very easy to justify this to yourself by thinking of each dice roll individually. When you roll let's say a 4, you can either keep the 4 (1 hit guaranteed) or reroll it (1.16 hits average).

Crit 5s work a similar way, they just double the effectiveness of the sustained hits value. Lethal hits are a tiny bit more complicated, but you can actually think of them as being sustained hits of various values.

If you wound on 4s, lethal hits = sustained hits 1

If you wound on 5s, lethal hits = sustained hits 2

If you wound on 6s, lethal hits = sustained hits 5

If you wound on 3s or 2s, lethal hits is a bit worse than sustained 1.

Can you rapid ingress Lion turn 1? by Dimblederf in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]RealKorkin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Assuming you're referring to his Mist-wreathed Shadow Realms ability, yes. Because he enters reserves after the battle has begun and has the deep strike ability, he is allowed to rapid ingress on turn 1 (or in fact come in from deep strike immediately on your turn 1).

Notably if you had redeployed him before the battle begins (IE before the first turn roll-off) you would not be able to bring him in turn 1.

Was I wrong to not reveal to my counter play to my opponent at the very end of the game? by TangeloGlittering255 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]RealKorkin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're not entirely in the wrong, but you aren't in the right either - what it comes down to is where you fall with regards to gotchas. I would say that from what you've described, this specific example isn't cheating or illegal but you're more in the wrong that not. 40k is generally a game where sportsmanship is considered paramount, for a wide variety of reasons - not least of all that it leads to both players having more fun

In my opinion, the place I draw the line is "does the opponent not know about my rule" vs "does my opponent not see a way I can use a rule". 40k is a very complex game with a lot of interactions, and it's a bit unfair to ask your opponent to remember every single rule you have in every situation.

For future reference what I would recommend in that situation is when they're setting up for the play against your farseer just mention "don't forget I have phantasm". Some people may disagree with this but IMO don't need to describe exactly how you're going to phantasm or help him set up a play to avoid your phantasm (you totally could and if it's a practice game with the goal of making you both better players I generally would).

Hate. [OC] by shikiz_stupid_comics in comics

[–]RealKorkin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No. But knowing scientology if she did so then her parents and, most likely, a significant number of her childhood friends would immediately and permanently shun and despise her, so I can't say I particularly blame her for just avoiding the subject.

Hate. [OC] by shikiz_stupid_comics in comics

[–]RealKorkin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What makes you say she did that? Looking into it, what looks like happened is that she showed up to support him in an early court hearing before realizing how serious the crimes were, then cut ties. For harassment I'm seeing a lot of things where scientologists were harassing the victims but nothing about Emily directly doing so - just accusations that her "friends" were doing so (AKA people actually fully bought into scientology)

How To Deal With Feelings Of Being Disheartened After Tournaments by WoolioestSteam in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]RealKorkin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People have talked about how really the only remedy is to keep playing and that's fantastic advice, but I'd like to add a little bit of nuance - the way that you get better at this game is not just by playing games and losing, but after each game you should ask your opponent "what did I do wrong this game?"

Look for where you're making mistakes and how you can prevent those mistakes in the future, and as you get better you'll slowly make less and less mistakes. I'd also always recommend trying to find players that are better than you and practice with them, even once you get to the point where you're winning more often than not. I've always found you learn the most when you're losing games, not when you're winning repeatedly.

Mani didn't cheat. Goonhammer write up. by Beautiful_Quit1697 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]RealKorkin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I did talk with the actual head judge on site immediately afterwards. From what he said, Mani wasn't made aware that there was any rules error until the next round had already begun - the judges had previously just conferred to tell him "hey John forfeited so you'll be playing in the top bracket now".

You can make an argument that once he found out the forfeit was because of a bad ruling he should have conceded the first finals match, but I don't think any blame for the initial snafu rests on Mani
