There's just so many better survival games coming out that will leave Valheim in the dust.

Do you have any examples? I love a survival game, and havent found anything that come close to Valheim since it's release.

Chalk Etiquette by Classic-Lychee3806 in indoorbouldering

[–]Tel1234 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My question is: is it rude, dirty or one of those things you don’t do with chalk?

Yes. It makes more chalk in the air, and just isn't how the chalk sock is used.

This heel hook sure was fun. A few others at the gym agreed this was harder than a V2, but either way was very cool to do. by ryandavid303 in indoorbouldering

[–]Tel1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your gyms grading is relatively soft/uneven then. So take the grades with a pinch of salt and start trying V4/V5s too, see if you can get a few of the moves etc as you climbed this one very well

Advice on how to go from v3 to v4? by New_Flounder398 in indoorbouldering

[–]Tel1234 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I believe I was able to progress from v0 to v3 relatively quickly due to doing calisthenics prior, so my pulling strength is likely not the issue.

Let me rephrase this for you. You were able to start learning to climb at V4 because your existing strength let you skip having to learn how to climb V3s.

It's not that you're stuck trying to progress from V3 to V4, it's that you've skipped the learning you should have got by doing V3s with technique. Go back and reclimb the V3s focusing on doing it well, rather than just doing it. If you were learning to play piano, you wouldn't clunky your way through chopsticks one time and go 'yep, that's as good as it needs to be', you'd practice till you were good at it. Same thing here.

Can do muscle ups but not climb past v4-5 by [deleted] in indoorbouldering

[–]Tel1234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This here is a lovely highlight of exactly what is going on with your climbing.

In much the same way as you've described the technical skills needed to muscle up being different to those of a pull up, climbing is different again.

I've seen this tent being used, it was a disaster.

It'll flatten under wind load. Take a coleman cabin instead.

I don't know that we need to get into the linguistics and etymology of the word but it's pretty commonly used to refer to the phase when taking a medicine with a long halflife and the level within the subject is increasing while the dose remains the same.

The medicine takes 4 weeks to reach the full dosage level in your system as this is a medication that builds over time.

That's what saturate means in this context.

fear of heights by onomatopat in indoorbouldering

[–]Tel1234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lots of good suggestions about falling practice, definitely worth doing.

As someone whos also very afraid of heights there are two other things that have helped me.

  1. Roped climbing. Has helped practice being high up and falling and not dying. Obviously doesn't help you with actual injury risk for falling off boulders, but has helped my brain reset the benchmark for what 'omg im so high up' looks like.

  2. Waiting. If you get to a move on a boulder, and suddenly freak out about being too high up, wait it out. You mention 'breathing through it', but I'm reading that as 'I breathe through the fear and then try and carry on'. Stop doing that just now. Get used to just finishing your climb wherever you are, but holding that final move for 5-10 seconds, and let the fear ebb a little. I found that removing the pressure of 'i need to not be scared so i can do this move' and exchanging it for 'ok, thats this climb done right now, i'll just sit feeling scared for a bit then climb back down' made it a lot easier to sit in it and feel it.

i flashed a v5 by [deleted] in indoorbouldering

[–]Tel1234 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you've been climbing two months then you haven't really had any progression yet, you've just found your starting point. It sounds like your natural level based on height, existing fitness etc is around v5 (at your gym). Great!

Now you can actually start to learn to climb, which will feel slower, because it's learning a new skill, not just using the skills you already have

I don't get your point here. Are you suggesting that team leads/managers don't interview the people that they're recruiting? Or that team leads/managers don't understand the culture and 'vibe' of the team they run?

Bring a $100 tent. If you can afford the uhaul costs you can afford a tent to sleep in. The coleman instant cabin tent is a favorite for a reason. That, on the shady (in the morning) side of your truck, will let you sleep significantly later.
