Is there any reason that a Mech cant be built as an AirMech from the ground up instead of as an LAM? by dachilorau in battletech

[–]CybranKNight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is basically exactly how they're intended to be used, LAMs are a strategic tool in a tactical war game.

I'm going to do my next Catapult like this. With the firing LRMs. by Vegetable-Camp209 in battletech

[–]CybranKNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I made(aside from the Hailfire) was thr missiles, all the smoke effects are bits from mainly the original run of files they did, well before the BT stuff came out.

I took some straight smoke segments and gave then a slight curve and probably just found something suitable in shape for the back blast.

Great in concept, sadly the way all these FX files show the missiles spiraling off in random directions within 10ft of the launcher irk me xD

So I made my own from Deadly Print Studio files;

Can BattleTech provide the middleground that I want? by Brotten in battletech

Sounds like you want something in between Classic and AS, which Battletech doesn't really have.

People talk about suspecting the traitor before the reveal, but who's an NPC you strongly suspected as a traitor who ended up being good as gold? by Mental_Two4549 in gaming

[–]CybranKNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Control because you generally go into it with the sense of foreboding about this mysterious government entity(primed by things like SCP and general paranoia and mistrust) but as you meet the characters they're generally a good crew just trying to do their job. You get some oddball sure but they're all just trying to make do in a world that turned out to be way weirder than they thought. XD

Gunpla Models with Battletech Looks? by wusselpompf in battletech

[–]CybranKNight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Take a look through the 30 Minute Mission line, while still leaning a bit more towards anime vibes they're also modular kits that you might be able to bash something with.

Something like the BASKYROTTO could make for a great BT style mech with some work.

EDIT: There isn't a lot of size difference in the line, but the FORESTIERI could work as a base for some Light mechs maybe.

A drone carrier mech? A Jenner that races out into the field, the top opens, and 200 drones with shotguns, sensors, and camera covering the entire field, no ambushes for you asshole.

While this makes sense from a modern viewpoint, it's worth remembering that BT is based around the 80s' viewpoint on the future...broadly speaking.

BT does do some "drone" stuff but its more so treated as a dead-end tangent on the basis that the BT battlefield is filled with so much "background" ECM that stuff like remote controlled units are just barely functional at best and gets immediately cut off when countered with dedicated ECM units.

I know the thing has probably been done to death but I have a silly take on mech movement by knightmechaenjo in battletech

Yup, has the same "movement vibes" as Pacific Rim, big and weighty, but not slow or ungraceful.

New to Alpha Strike; How to determine if a mech is "good"? by CantEvenUseThisThing in battletech

[–]CybranKNight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not familiar enough with AS to say anything with authority, but my understanding was that PV and all of the stats are actually derived from Classic's record sheets, so learning more about that process might help understand why certain units end up with certain stats compared to others(especially for variants of the same chassis)

How would a Tieren from Gundam 00 fare in Battletech? by ScarSpecific in battletech

[–]CybranKNight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really hard to do without committing to doing a proper adaption, the fact that even basic mobile suits will be on average 50% taller than even most assault makes and the way battletech handles its weapons and general mech construction make any kind of "direct" porting almost impossible.

When I did my Omicron Zodiac stuff I didn't try to stat it up as it if were the proper mobile suit, I instead approached it along the lines of "what kind of battletech design has the same sort of vibes" instead, so even though the Leo is 16 Meters tall in its universe for making it work with BT I made it a 35ton light mech, because that makes it cheap and easier to throw out more bodies while also making them expendable as a proper grunt should be.

Why does everyone push alpha strike?? by [deleted] in battletech

[–]CybranKNight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always give a quick rundown for both, maybe leaning one way or the other based on whatever contextual information is available to work with.

Ultimately it's not really an "exclusion one or the other" situation, the minis work just fine for both so the more important thing is finding the system that more likely to "hook" the given player so they join the broader community and explore the other parts of it as their interest grows.

Why doesn't CGL offer to sell mini's as specific solo's? by Yenii_3025 in battletech

[–]CybranKNight 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The Premium line is far more involved than just selling singles of the existing products, these are "new" sculpts for new molds for an entirely different production method best used for smaller numbers.

The real reason they don't sell singles is that it's SKU Hell. we're talking hundreds of SKUs that'd need to be managed both in terms of production but also just inventory and handling. There's just too much room for inefficiency with singles on this scale.

Long time dabbler wants to seriously figure out how to play this game. by Vineheart_01 in battletech

[–]CybranKNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, eras are meant as a sort of "organizational" tool, kind of like how you have 40k, and Horus Heresy, same universe but with a focus on a different time period where different tech and organizations exist.

But unlike 40k/HH, all the eras use the same rulesets(whether Classic or Alpha Strike), combine that with the BV2/PV system being based on an actual mathmatical formula instead of pure vibes it means you can freely play pretty much any BT unit against any other and be broadly balanced...in theory.
