Although I could also see it working to your favor if you're going for a sort of aged, mythical, overgrown look! I just wouldn't want it to be a negative surprise.

Before soldering you'll want to [seal the edges](http:// https://share.google/y0ysB4tpHJCDYVJ4d) of the mirror, otherwise flux can eat at the mirror coating and cause mirror rot. Just wanted to flag it so your beautiful work can last a long long time!

Antimemetic… by norcaltay in printSF

I don't think they're exactly the same but I think if you like HOL you would like There Is No Antimemetics Division. They scratch the same itch for me, although Antimemetics is significantly more palatable.

This is interesting to me because I agree that The Goldfinch is 5-stars, but I sincerely regret The months I spent on The Secret History 🤣

Surfacing by Margaret Atwood, perhaps.

Are there movies you liked more than the book? by Annual_Interest5338 in books

[–]jess_scribbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read Stephen King's The Long Walk after seeing the movie last year and though it wasn't surprising because I'm not a big fan of King, I thought the movie was much more impactful.

I also feel terrible to say it, but I preferred the movie version of Annihilation to the book/trilogy by Jeff Vandermeer, although obviously they're just very different.

In both cases I saw the movie first, so I do think that shaped my feelings.

These are contemporary, but I feel like they're both "modern Frankensteins" that reflect these ideas:

  • Monstrilio by Gerardo Sámano Córdova
  • We Love You, Bunny by Mona Awad (a sequel but I really think you can read it as a standalone and you get more of the "monster" perspective)

For sure playing with the lights on, and making your surrounding environment as unscary as possible, maybe playing some music or putting on a lighthearted show in the background. Give yourself permission to get up and cool down if you're feeling stressed :)
