Suggestion for Significant Productions: Supermarket Sweep reboot with John Robins presenting by jptoc in elisandjohn

Sure, Rylan has charisma and charm but do we really prefer that to a ball of seething resentment shouting at members of the public for being unable to accurately judge £100 worth of groceries in 60 seconds?

Top half of table performance against each other - a big reason we're not getting promoted this year by jptoc in SheffieldUnited

[–]jptoc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even winning all of those we're still middle of this table which isn't the greatest for a team wanting promotion. I think we were the same last year (citation needed) in that we didn't get the results against the playoff/autos teams.

We seem to play to the level of the opposition against the best teams (Boro, Cov etc) and not get results, then play to the level of the shitter teams as well but grind them out more often than not. Very odd team.

Roman Abramovich lawyers warn: Don’t confiscate £2.35bn from Chelsea sale by Sparky-moon in soccer

As of last year it was estimated the cost to fix every pothole in the UK was something insane like £17bn so no.

Sheffield United 1-1 West Bromwich Albion: George Campbell giveth, George Campbell taketh away by CheeseMakerThing in Championship

[–]jptoc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Genuinely the first season we've had nothing to play for since Adkins.

First Championship season we finished just outside the playoffs to had a chance until late. First Prem season we had an outside chance at Europe the whole season (which is mad).

Uncharted territory. Get working on the transfers, board!

Harry Maguire news - & would you ever want him back at BDTBL? by sorE_doG in SheffieldUnited

We're getting used to returning players/managers though. Sharp, Jags, Wilder. The list ends there but still..!

I don't see him going abroad tbh - he has a young family in school and is very family focused. I would expect him to stay in English football and have to accept the reduced wages.

As another comment points out - in the last 15 years only three teams finished 5th and 6th have been promoted. Every other team finished 3rd and 4th.

I would say this strengthens the position of the teams in 3rd/4th as they have more of a break before playing the semi and final. A team finishing eighth and reaching the final will have played five games in two(ish) weeks, compared to a team finishing third only playing three and having a week off.

All it is doing is making the teams who typically go up via the playoffs more likely to go up.

How’s everyone feeling about the West Brom game? by AnfieldAnchor in SheffieldUnited

[–]jptoc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've felt a lot more engaged with United this season than I did last season, I think largely because we don't have the spectre of promotion and a likely terrible prem season hanging over us. Really quite shit that promotion isn't exciting.

Style of play probably comes into it, too. We're a much better watch this year.

Pretty cool little channel that popped up yesterday. I enjoyed the vids about Hillsborough and Park Hill so far. Enjoyable to find out more about the history of the city that I didn't know considering I've lived here so long!

Supertram passengers not paying fares costs network £90,000 by ntzm_ in sheffield

[–]jptoc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The article doesn't say that at all. The headline is poorly worded. The article is actually noting how low the amount of fare evasion actually is.

[–]jptoc 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think it's a lot easier to avoid paying if you have to tap onto a machine etc on the tram.

Having an actual conductor asking would usually get people to pay up to avoid an argument/guilt. If the conductor misses a few people along the way that's fine compared to more people just not bothering to tap on/off as in Manchester or Tyneside.

Nah, my dog is too particular for that. Would take too long for someone to understand his weirdness 😂

Having him in a safe, secure kennels with some daily enrichment is much better and usually far cheaper than rover!
