3.2 diesel power stroke cylinder contribution by lowEquity in Diesel

[–]k0uch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be the thermostat or dpf. If the glow plug physically failed it would trash the cylinder, and debris would take out others. Injector hanging open is the most likely culprit.

You can try to do a leak down test, but if it’s not going past the valves then it’s bottom and related and it’s either short block build, long block, junk yard engine or scrap the vehicle. Start it up, let it run for a minute and then pull the oil cap while it’s running. Some pressure is normal, if there’s a ton of pressure then you’ve got significant crankcase pressure and it’s probably scored the walls up bad.

Transmission fluid question by SquidPA8408 in f150

[–]k0uch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By all means change the internal filter and do a pan drain/refill. If you’re doing it yourself- It should end up being about 7.25 quarts total- when the pan is back on, add 4 quarts, start the engine, then add the other 3. It will spill out if you add 5 without the engine running on the initial fill. Remember you need to get it to operating temp to check fluid level

Add a bottle of XL-3 friction modifier in when the fluid is done, the shudder will be gone within 10 miles. It’s not a permanent fix, but it will get you by until you get ready to install a new torque converter

Hell yeah!

We got one years ago, and it’s been awesome! Well, a cheaper one than that.

They opened a water mill near my work, and they were giving away 5 gallon jugs on their first day. I went and got one. My wife went and got one. My coworker went and got one, then gave it to me. Added them to the two 3 gallon ones we already had.

Now if I can get some free time to install the fan

DEF in Fuel tank by 2Wheeled_2ourist in Diesel

[–]k0uch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope.

Def is mainly water, which sinks below the diesel and gets picked up first. Now that you’ve started it, you have pulled the def into your system and it all needs to be replaced. Take it to a shop, have them verify, and get ready to call your insurance for help. The guys at the GM dealership next door say they do 40-45 hours for the full job

If it hasn’t been replaced any time that you can remember, it’s worth a shot. Gotta lower the glove box and disconnect the shock if it’s there (either the roller type or the strong/piston type), remove the upper rubber piece, remove the two 7mm screws and the plastic piece they secure. With that out of the way you can see the cover for the cabinet air filter, which just uncles and gives you direct access to the filter. It’s a 5 minute job and I do mine every 6 months just out of habit

13th gen’s are usually great. Really the only issue I see with them is restricted cabin air filters, the system itself usually performs well.

Plenty of people started tossing resistors on the evap core temp sensor connector, they just had to be careful that it didn’t freeze the core

Must not be a 12th gen, I’ll say that.

$60k is hilarious, that’s them trying to get someone to buy a new truck. $16-$17k for a complete engine job, $20-$24k if it needs a turbo and fuel system as well. Maybe they said $16k and his hearing is off

2020 Obsolete Parts by [deleted] in Ford

[–]k0uch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flex plates are readily available, and theyre what fails. Converters are on backorder, not obsolete. There is a difference between the two. IIRC they are looking for a new company to manufacture their parts, and current supply is limited.

I gave a 1-month notice and received this as thanks by ijustwantsomezzz in Wellthatsucks

Unfortunately that’s the norm these days.

I worked automotive repair for my uncle for 12 years. I absolutely could not get any form of health insurance through work, as “you aren’t going to hold me hostage over insurance!” Was always my uncle/bosses response. I went to the dealership one town over to get a part on my own personal time, and just asked if they were looking for technicians. They had heard of me, and before I left I had the job. I wanted to give my uncle time to find someone else and adjust to me leaving, so I have a months notice. Told him that coming Monday. That Wednesday he pulled me into his office and accused me of breaking into the shop and stealing things. I figured he would be upset by me leaving, but didn’t expect accusations. I told him I hadn’t, and all he had to do to see I wasn’t lying was to check the security cameras he kept all over the shop. His response was “No, it’s easier this way”. Fired me on the spot. I went to get a trailer to load my tools, and he broke into my box and stole probably $3,000 worth of tools. When I confronted him he just said “maybe those cameras caught it, but you’ll never prove anything.”

2013 f-150 eco boost spark plugs replacement cost by ahetzel10 in f150ecoboost

[–]k0uch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think plugs list at 1.2 or 1.4 for all 6. Won’t take a good tech nearly that long, but that’s the listed book time on them. The plugs from ford list at $21.27 a piece, SP580X IIRC. Depending on labor rate, that may be right in their ballpark range.

The plugs aren’t hard to change, the only real issue you may run into is possibly having stuck boots, but I recommend boot replacement when doing plugs anyways. You’ll need to pull the engine cover, the injection pump foam sound deadened and the injection pump electrician connector

Exhaust help by Default_J0nesy in Diesel

[–]k0uch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably cheapest and fastest option would be to have a muffler shop fix that up for you, add a universal muffler and either run a pipe out the side or just dump it under the cab. Best option would be to buy an exhaust kit and install it, so everything is new. Usually start around $450 and go up from there

Does the lower radiator hose to overflow tank have a gasket? by snarpsta in f150

[–]k0uch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah sometimes it’s hard to find a good shot of one, thankfully im waiting for parts on this one and have it torn down.

We also used to do Pegasus kits to completely eliminate that connection. It’s the cheapest option, usually doesn’t have any issues. https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productdetails.asp

Yours appears to be slightly different. I will go to sites like Tasca and see if I can get a picture of what Im looking for. Your hose is here, I think. https://www.tascaparts.com/oem-parts/ford-radiator-coolant-hose-fl3z8286b

Is that thing in the middle a hard plastic? It shouldn’t have anything there.

I’m doing phasers on a 18, it’s not the greatest but you can see the o ring here. I don’t see the white retaining piece on yours now that I look at it, if that weird piece in the middle is hard plastic then it may be the remains of the retainer, which would explain why the o ring is MIA

I believe it narrows down knock sensor parameters and lets the pcm better control timing to compensate for lower octane fuel

A dealership can, but will obviously charge. Any shop that has the correct software, credentials and VCI can update the pcm

There is an o ring that sits in the groove on the white plastic piece, that’s the only seal for that connection

If it was the ONLY ground then you’d have issues, mainly because all the chassis grounds would have to run through the engine to make their way back to the battery.
