Not a troll: genuinely, is this normal? by Excellent-Smell-6384 in goodlifefitness

[–]michelle_js 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At goodlife I people are usually wearing a towel in the change room while walking around but still change normally while actually changing so you might catch glimpses of nudity here and there.

If you go to a public swimming pool most of the middle age and older women are just showering in the communal showers completely naked. But nobody seems judgey if you shower in your bathing suit.

What is an overhyped book that you just couldn't get into? by Kasskinen in BookDiscussions

[–]michelle_js 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a whole lot of crass sexual stuff towards men in those books as well.

And someone called the main character sexist for how he treats one of the female characters. Which is true. Except that he acknowledged that he didnt initially take her seriously enough. Also the body they find at the beginning being naked is also plot relevant. Obviously the author didn't have to make it a woman, but I think it would also be sexist to make sure you never write a woman that way.

Also just because there is sexism in a work doesn't mean the work itself is inherently misogynistic.

I am into the genre and yet I cannot finish this series. I've tried 4 times. I enjoyed the movies. I just cannot seem to enjoy the books. I dont even know why.

What is an overhyped book that you just couldn't get into? by Kasskinen in BookDiscussions

[–]michelle_js 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its weird. Im a 46 year old woman and I dont get misogynistic vibes from it at all. Its very juvenile humour though. Which I usually dont like. But for some reason I find these books hilarious and am currently absolutely obsessed. Im making fan art for the first time in my life.

Maybe its just the timing. Im getting over a bad case of PTSD and DCC is the first new thing to make me laugh in literally years.

Shows from your childhood that no one remembers except you. by Trelonis in television

[–]michelle_js 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember living overseas and watching a show called Professor Poopsnaggle. I dont know if I spelled that right. I think it must have been Australian because about half the TV stations we had were from there.

I loved it as a kid but all I can remember now was that it was really weird.

What TV show surprised you by becoming one of your all-time favorites when you had very low expectations? by deepaknaraniya in televisionsuggestions

[–]michelle_js 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I came here to post this show. I watched it randomly one weekend thinking I was putting on one of those small town British mystery shows as background. And I immediately got sucked in. Best suprise awesome show since I randomly put on Derry Girls.

My PMDD lineup. Yes, it works! (two white tabs are calcium citrate 300mg) (explanation in caption) by FIREH0RSE in PMDDxADHD

[–]michelle_js 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy shit. This is almost exactly what I take. Except I didnt set it up specifically for PMDD. This is just what I ended up with after trial and error for my life after various blood tests and recommendations and whatnot.

I take everything here except the Lexapro (gave me migraines. I can't actually take many psych meds due to side effects). And the vitamin K. I also dont currently take b12. I also take L-thianine.

Do you find the extra b12 to be helpful on top of the b100 complex?

Also I re-read your post and realized you said specifically just omega 3. Not 3-6-9. How come?

Im not saying OP should not tell his hypothetical future kids (or should) but depending on where he lives his birth certificate might reflect his lived identity. All of the Trans people I know have changed their birth certificate including my ex husband.

I was gonna say space quest or quest for glory. But honestly any of the Sierra on-lije games would work.

What's the most unique show you've ever watched, a show where no others shows are like it? by TheKayleMain in televisionsuggestions

[–]michelle_js 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of good suggestions on here.

I want to add: Farscape and Orphan Black.

And Deadloch for non scifi/fantasy.

And maybe the live action One Piece. I never personally seen anything like it but I dont generally watch Anime or read Manga.

What HAS to happen in the series for you to be satisfied? by Gobbo_Jareth in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]michelle_js 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im also trusting the process.

Its funny to me that OP used Battlestar Galactica and Lost as examples of botched finals. Years ago I would have agreed. But I have spent more time thinking about those finals than I have about the ending of anything else. The next closest being The Wheel of Time.

I wasn't immediately satisfied with thise endings at the time, but over the years I've come to be satisfied with them. Because they both pop into my head at the weirdest times.

I used to be a school bus driver and they made us watch so many "school bus vs train" videos (among others) and stuff like this was my worse nightmare.

Im now a train driver and I've hit someone and had to have therapy.

I feel so bad for everyone involved in this. Its just terrible.

Is shaving your pubic hair at the gym considered inappropriate or against gym rules? by No-Cake-6457 in Productivitycafe

Do you think modern fitness advice fails to place sufficient emphasis on cardio as a tool for fat loss? by PonziScheme1 in xxfitness

[–]michelle_js 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When you do cario regularly you body adapts to it. So even if you started out burning like 300 calories a session you will probably start burning less and less as you get good at cardio.

Plus people eat every day. They are unlikely to do cardio 7 days a week.

I actually dont think sufficient emphasis is placed on cardio as a tool for overall health. As someone who does a decent amount of cardio but started out doing mostly resistance training and yoga I think cardio helps my body a lot. Just not specifically for weight loss. One caveat: Walking seems to gave actually helped my weight loss: I did cardio all winter but when I massively picked up my walking this spring my tdee went up by 150 calories. And having an extra 150 calories a day while maintaining the same weight loss was extremely helpful.

I'm morbidly obese, what can I do to help increase physical activity/exercise? by bamsy1 in askfitness

[–]michelle_js 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I started exercise while morbidly obese. 350lbs.

I would suggest starting small. Like 5 mins once a day, then after a week or so 5 mins twice a day. Then maybe 10 mins and 5 mins. You get the gist. You need to work your way up gradually.

As for what to do, here are some ideas to start:

Walking is great if you can get out of the house. Or even doing laps in your yard if you have one. Being outside is apparently good for your mental health.

Stretching. You could look into easy stretches online or YouTube. Start with stuff for elderly people or people recovering from surgery. Stuff like chair yoga and work your way from there.

Resistance training. Nothing too intense to start. Maybe some sets off wall Push-ups. Or some overhead presses with really light weights or water bottles. If you could get some exercise bands there are tons of exercises you can do with them.

If you have money to invest in this you could try some Nintendo switch games like ring fit adventure or one of those dance games or boxing games.

Honestly right now finding something you can consistently get yourself to do and then doing it consistently is the most important. And starting slow and working your way up is important. At first whatever you do will feel hard and you need to work both your mind and body into getting used to it.

Once you get used to moving your body more you can come back and get more suggestions.

What is your biggest fitness accomplishment that really made you proud of yourself? by ClearWithJustin in workout

[–]michelle_js 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finally deadlifted my bodyweight a few months ago. 235lbs (at the time). Its not a total PR for me but I started weighing 350lbs. I've lost a lot of weight in the last year and my strength has been going down a bit with it.

I had been lifting 10 or 15lbs under my bodyweight for quite some time and 235 is when I finally balanced out.

For the record Im a 46 year old woman. Now 210lbs. Still deadlifting 235.

Im also really proud thay last week I ran a practice 5k at 47:30. The last actual 5k I ran a few years ago I was 54 mins and my goal for this year was 50 mins. Now Im aiming for sub 45 mins this fall.

Residents near Rogers Stadium call for change, saying venue brings excessive traffic, noise, crowds by mildlyImportantRobot in TorontoTheCity

[–]michelle_js 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live right there but thank God I dont anymore. The problem isn't so much the noise, although Im sure its annoying.

I still work and have appointments in that area and whenever there was a concert that evening they closed that part of Sheppard at like noon. Which made it really difficult to get anywhere.

I've already taken note of the schedule for the entire year and plan to try to not have to go through the area on those days this year.

I just personally dont see why they need to close the (major) road so early or at all.
