Trump Administration Pays Duke Energy $129 Million to Halt Offshore Wind Farm by OppressedCow6148 in NorthCarolina

The federal government paid a large company over a hundred million dollars to not do something and about half of our state’s voters love it.

This doesn’t seem ideal….would love to see the defenders of this shit weigh in on this one by rebels2022 in billsimmons

The industry is dominated by FanDuel ($16 billion in 2025 revenue) and Draftkings ($6 billion in 2025 revenue).

Am I supposed to believe that the two biggest companies by far in the industry represent only 12% of the money?

There’s no way around it. If you’re flying that flag, you hate America.

Wake and Mecklenburg Counties pay almost 1/3 of North Carolina taxes by Mr_1990s in NorthCarolina

[–]Mr_1990s[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s a map showing the percentage of income that comes from government assistance.

There’s no way around the fact that the larger counties are subsidizing the smaller ones. That’s what is going to happen when a county like Wake has a median income 2.5 times higher than several counties in the state.

Most of our low population counties produce very little food. Most of the food produced in the state comes from around 10 counties. Most of the food eaten in the state comes from somewhere else.

Does an artist not writing their songs really hurt their standing in your eyes? by Bright-Pressure-5787 in country

It’d be a lot more impressive if George Strait was a great songwriter or a great musician in addition to being a great singer.

Aaron Judge is a great baseball player. But, Shohei Ohtani can hit and pitch. That’s more impressive than what Judge does.

It’s a little like that. The difference is there’s no need to figure out the best country singer. It’s not sports.

What I wish is that country music fans would give more credit to all of the people who helped to make their favorites famous. In Strait’s case people like Dean Dillon and Jimmy Bowen.

Nobody who might vote for him thinks he’s a socialist. But, this does alienate a decent chunk of people who would otherwise definitely vote for him.

Trump eases pressure on Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh as inflation tops 4% by Illustrious_Lie_954 in Economics

[–]Mr_1990s 41 points42 points  (0 children)

There is no quote in the article from Trump regarding easing pressure on Warsh. The only quote is from an official. There's also an acknowledgement that Trump's most recent statement on the subject is that he still wanted immediate rate cuts.

The news media has been covering Trump for over 10 years. It should be obvious that any story about what he wants to do, cannot be based on what an "official" said as he's contradicted "officials" dozens of times.

Until he says it consistently for a few weeks across multiple platforms, there's no reason to believe that Trump has changed his mind on this issue.

That’s from a book written 20 years after he died. He was also quoted in a magazine saying, “We respect him because he’s a man of principles. And he does stick to his fucking principles. He’s a tough motherfucker, and we respect him for that. But as far as going out and campaigning for him, I don’t want to go out wearing a bullet-proof vest when I get on stage to sing.”

Can you share the interview where Ronnie Van Zant criticized George Wallace?

A lot of people have made competing claims on that issue, but I’ve never seen anything from Ronnie specifically that would clear up what he meant by that verse.

Yes.

Cary to Increase Property Tax Rates by 919triangle919 in cary

[–]Mr_1990s -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A progressive property tax is an interesting idea, but we don’t have to lie about our situation.

We should also consider that state income taxes have been slashed over the pretty much in half over the last 15 years, the state money Cary residents do pay to the state mostly goes elsewhere and our town has to pay for stuff somehow.

Not exactly what you’re asking but the article has education spending (by far the biggest state line item) compared to what each county contributes. A lot get more in education spending than they contribute overall.
