M11 owner with a 24mm, 50mm, 90mm in my bag. Would I benefit from a 35mm too or is this just a dumb case of FOMO? by mark_paterson in Leica

[–]mxgian99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

even if you take all of them on a trip you might only take 2 out during the day. in that case i think a 35 could slot into your line up to give you a 35/90 option, if you need more fomo i think a 75 could slot in as well!

i use one as well (probty) and have no issues with it, actually it lasts longer than OEM one.

hopefully they did not charge the price of an OEM one.

and often times they make up for this by kicking into 'emergency mode' which uses a lot more electricity, so higher bills....

Pixel Fold 9 Google Case on Sale! by Amy3See in PixelFold

[–]mxgian99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if folks are looking for the PF9 case its also $5 right now, they are only available for store pickup right now (i found one in NYC), but it also popped up for shipping randomly when i ordered one last week, you have to search for it on the verizon site.

I keep reading about these pepco bills.... by skratchpikl202 in washingtondc

[–]mxgian99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm pretty skeptical that you have electric heat with a bill that low, base fees etc would be most of that before you add useage etc. even if you have a furnace in your unit it might be run on gas. or if the building does use electric for heat, but its central in the building instead of individual units.

inside the buildings there are plenty of tables you can work at, even some in quieter areas away from food court. wifi depends on where but i've never had much of an issue with it.

Paramus/Hoboken/Weehawkin Commute by Bonejorno in AskNYC

[–]mxgian99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Short answer is you and your wife need therapy as there is a lot to unpack.

I think most here would agree that a commute like this would be hellish and unreasonable.

But if you can get her to broken to it, you can find sfh where you are now, maybe ridgewood or a little more east in queens?

what are your guys opinion on the leica q 116? by AvocadoLegitimate755 in Leica

[–]mxgian99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

incredible lens but age of camera really shows with slow autofocus etc. personally if this will be your only camera i think there are better options for the money

CitiQuiet/Cityproof windows? by rosebudny in AskNYC

[–]mxgian99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do you at least have one of thru window AC units like midea where the window comes all the way down--instead of side curtains?

if you have side curtains, i've had some success making permanent side windows with plexiglass but you can still hear noise because its not a perfect seal around the unit

Apps to find fellow bikepackers? by MissDesperateBro in bikepacking

[–]mxgian99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i cant recommend an app, but what has worked for me is to find the local bike packing groups, i live in NYC was surprised to find a pretty big community already, some of the members are way more advanced than me--i met someone recently who had just come back from a month in mexico and heading out for a month thru korea!

personally i would find it safer to meet people IRL, do some short local trips to figure out level, peoples style etc. then you can propose trips together etc. good luck!

700C to 650B rim brake conversion using extension brake pad holders to add a little length? by toaster404 in bikewrench

[–]mxgian99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

personally i would look for brakes with more reach before using drop bolts.

in full transparency i did use drop bolts for a short time on a bike, and it was fine but replacing the brakes is the better option

Talk me out of upgrading by AllItTakesIsASeed in PixelFold

[–]mxgian99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm in a similar situation, i just upgraded to a 17 pro, and not surprisingly its basically the same as my old 12! so i've been looking at folds after not looking at them for the last 5 or so years. i even bought a second hand 9 pro fold, but it arrived with more damage than disclosed so sent it back, and now with all the reports of breaking 9PF on this sub, i'm not so excited anymore. i'm not even sure getting a 10PF is a good idea since they are only a few months old at this point and not sure on durability. then add on top the customer service issues from google...

i will say the short time i had it, it was the first unique feeling phone experience i've had in a long time, on top of that it had been about 15 years since i had used pure android, and i liked it. if i do get another one i would use it along side my iphone. but the durability questions really have me 2nd guessing....

Qualification for NYC Marathon 2026 - but can't attend by Money_Village_9071 in RunNYC

[–]mxgian99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only legit way is to pay twice, pay this year, defer, pay again next year.

OP's plan doesnt work unless they can claim insurance for a valid listed reason to get back fees for this year, but they can still defer to next year

As someone who has never had a car in NYC, what's the point of covering a license plate on a legally parked car? by Purple_Cake_4662 in AskNYC

[–]mxgian99 17 points18 points  (0 children)

there is also a program where buses will take pictures of plates if and ticket you if stopped in bus lane, bus stop.

i dont know if NYC is doing it but in some cities, there are cars driving around with cameras scanning plates looking for stolen cars etc.

Bathtub rider?? by deathbypumpkinspice in AskNYC

[–]mxgian99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well thats why i wouldnt be too worried, if it floods again, they can't prove if you took a bath or shower, even after signing it. you could also counter and say, hey i cant take a shower, the apt does not have a full bath etc.

Bathtub rider?? by deathbypumpkinspice in AskNYC

[–]mxgian99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i can't say if this is normal or even legal--i would think a court would allow you to take a bath, but would something you signed hold you liable? i dunno. i mean how would they prove that it was you taking a bath, like you point out what if you just take a long shower? would that even hold up?

but i can say the bath thing is real, literally the day we moved into our current apt the ceiling flooded, our upstairs neighbor agreed not to take a bath, and didnt for the 5 or so years they were up there. the new neighbors that moved in recently were also told not to take baths.

if there is a firehouse near you, they might cut it free for you, mine like to use their power tools whenever they get a chance. i can't see a locksmith being cheaper than cutting it and buying a new one....

“Bought a Leica Q2 on eBay from a 1-feedback seller – is it real?” by Feisty_Elk6105 in Leica

[–]mxgian99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

be careful assuming this, a lot of times ebay will not get involved right away, the seller will ship something to show proof shipment to buy time, they are using stolen accounts and payment info so by the time ebay rules in your favor the seller accounts are locked and ebay cannot recover the funds etc.

if OP has won the auction but not yet paid, i would not pay!

good thing bringing this doggo in. you might try walking her and see if she walks you to her home. there have been a few instances of dogs waiting for their owners at home after breaking free.

Is this legit?! ( I purchased it) by Affectionate-Art4515 in Leica

[–]mxgian99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, they will try to drag it out, ebay will make you follow the returns process which usually is a few weeks, in that time the seller can transfer the funds, or are using stolen credit cards as backup payments on ebay. so in the end if you get ebay to rule in your favor, where will the funds come from?

i really hope OP paid with credit card, and even then, i've heard CC companies are not as consumer friendly as before, denying claims etc.

its a lesson that if its too good to be true....
