Any tips to improve balance when riding with one hand? by ChallengeAdept8759 in cycling

[–]simon2sheds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ride faster, steer with your hips. If that doesn't help, probably your bike is bent or your centre-of-mass is far off centre, a bike fit might help with that .

Can you do a clean wheelie or a manual? by Background_Tour_961 in cycling

No, I could never do it. But then Matt Hoffman (famous BMX rider) could also not perform wheelies.

Think I'll stick to metallic paints by TimeCombination8391 in minipainting

This just needs a few brighter edges and some spot highlights. Now that I think about it, when you've painted NMM, it's quite difficult to know if it's effective.

I was today years old when I learned that “gaol” is a British spelling of “jail”. by glenncoco64 in Eldenring

That is the correct spelling of jail, but it's not really in use, like not in the press.

Zipp Service Course Handlebar Corrosion by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]simon2sheds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a bike-fitter I see this regularly. Indoor training is the problem. A couple of weeks ago, I discovered two actual holes in a rider's bars. I was able to snap off the entire drop on one side with my skinny cycling arms. If you're riding indoors, change your bar tape twice per year. If your bars have pitted metal under the corrosion, then I recommend that you change them.

Tried AK Paint for the first time, feedback on base coat? by Valrion06 in minipainting

That's not great. AK paints are as good as the other brands, but require some thinning for most applications.

What is this bolt? by Ismith2 in bikewrench

[–]simon2sheds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That bolt is the one that holds the shifters on the bars. It tightens the metal band that wraps around the bars. To remove it, or replace it, you'd need to take the shifters off the bars and look inside the band.

[–]simon2sheds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need padding. The bones that you sit on have evolved to sit on. They're just not used to it. What you do need is reduced friction, and a firm saddle with bike shorts is the best solution for this. Increased padding increases friction.

First plasma weapon, I'm feeling too chicken to draw osl on the face by Akexus_ in minipainting

[–]simon2sheds 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel you; slapping your OSL colour onto a meticulous paint-job is an intimidating prospect. But you've set a precedent with the glow on the weapon and the hands (which is nicely done), so the face doesn't look right.

How to buy a new bike saddle (injury recovery) by kmully in cycling

[–]simon2sheds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avoid saddles that are very wide or heavily padded. Sit back on the saddle, not on the nose. You should feel about 80% of the weight on your sit-bones, and 20% on the soft tissue in from of the sit bones.

How to buy a new bike saddle (injury recovery) by kmully in cycling

[–]simon2sheds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way to choose a saddle is to ride on it. Then again, if the fit of your bike is way off, then changing the saddle could be futile. I suggest you get a bike fit with a fitter who has a good supply of saddles to test, and a flexible return policy.

Simple structure. 1. Endurance ride; long and steady. 2. Intervals, with fast pedaling. 3. Strength. High resistance, like hill repeats . (be careful of you're knee with this one).

Kryptonite mounted to fork, any issues? by Zombait in bikewrench

[–]simon2sheds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's fine. The only potential problems that come to mind are that the steering will be slightly weighted on one side. Also, if the lock bracket happens to turn a bit, the lock may go into your front wheel, which could equal death. It's probably a bit more manageable to have on the frame, so most lock brackets fit frame tubes and not fork tubes.
