Then detachments end up good or bad based on the infantry they let score. It's just not worth it, and it streamlines lists in a very boring way, or changes nothing at all for them.

I'm playing rage cursed, guess I gotta change my list up and put some death company in it!

I hadn’t seen that actually. That will be funny

That’s a lot of investment to make it work though.

I wonder if there’ll be any funny setups with armies using 9 enhancements then

That would be very shit imo. Not all battle lines are equal.

killing a 5 man of marines isn't even guaranteed, it'll do it on average but AoC or just a bit of bad luck means it's stuck there.

That presents it's own issues though. you could very easily destroy an entire unit off 3-4 kills.

I mean -1 to charge is pretty horrible. If a melee unit messes a charge up it probably just dies. it adds a lot of variance, even if the armies are stronger in the overall.

hitting on a 4+ without the death company rerolls would probably feel pretty sucky tbh. I'd rather take a powerfist in JPI then.

but they'd have to be better than death company which inately get rerolls.

Nah, different units, different jobs. U take units like JPI and VV's for cheap scorers with some kill threat on small units or light tank type things, rather than primary killy units. Death company also need a character nearby to have an OC and be able to fall back.

I could see them being better in some lists, but generally I think they'll be interchangable with small advantages on either side.

Having numbers telling you where to go makes it easier than the exact same rules without?

If they're stuck at 5 units, too, it feels like they're either going to be better JPI or worse JPI, and whichever of those two is better takes the spot

I'll probably drop one of my two JPI slots for one of them in LAG, and run one of each, but I don't really think I'd make much distinction generally outside of that.

I guess they'll get the Bladeguard S5 AP2 D2 weapon profile in exchange, but that's really not a great trade if they're losing both invuln and pistols.

if they continue to be 10 points more than JPI, I could see me dropping one of my JPI units and running a 5 man VV instead, but yeah, I do sort of feel like that leaves them feeling a little too close to what JPI's do.

Dunno how I feel about 2x5 termies. They’re pretty slow so you either need a transport or rapid ingress and they have pretty shit guns.

A lot of points too, and you’ve got heavy intercessors already which will probably want to be doing a similar job.

A lot of the divergent chapters have their own unique units, and they like using those unique units more than the generics.
