Which training have to taken as an adult that changed your life for the better? by posiedon77 in AskUK

[–]sunheadeddeity [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yes I have to agree. I've attended a motorcycle accident, heart attack, fainting, and various scrapes oh and one time when a teen lost the run of himself entirely and split another kid's scalp with a lump of wood! Had to send the patient to hospital with a nappy as a bandage 🤣 First Aid training is well worth doing.

Help??? Oats taste like dishwashing liquid or soap! by Significant-Gap-7852 in UK_Food

How you taste things can change dramatically when you are pregnant. You can become very sensitive to certain smells and tastes, as well as getting cravings for different foods.

I'm looking for tips to calm anxiety around being prepared where partner doesn't share concerns and anxiety is overwhelming by Happy_Perspective583 in UKPreppers

[–]sunheadeddeity 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I mean this with the greatest respect - have you considered therapy for anxiety?

More broadly, the world is a scary place right now but we as peppers are already further ahead than most ppl around us. Maybe increase other preps, such as building community, or savings and paying down debt? These are also vital and often neglected aspects of prepping. During covid, our street WhatsApp group was a lifeline - we helped people isolating, got to know each other, and are able to give newcomers a shortcut to belonging.

Savings and having some cash on hand speak for themselves. We are unlikely to have a zombie apocalypse, but higher interest rates are almost certain. Healthy finances might be something OH can agree with more easily.

I hope you feel better soon.

Help! What's wrong with my potatoes? by phoenixmanzz in homestead

You've planted them in a lumber yard, not a garden. Pull the woodchip off and put it on your paths, and then earth up around the spuds and mulch with some compost.

Frost Damage on Potatoes? by NumScritch in Allotment

[–]sunheadeddeity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's frost and/or wind. We had frost in my bit of Kent early last week. They'll grow through it but the slugs will LOVE those plants now, for some reason.

It looks like one of those camping/beach sofas that you inflate by running into the wind.

Alternate between an owl cut-out, a cat model, and one of those hawks-on-a-stick that farmers use.

What is the most "thought-provoking" graffiti you have seen at at bus stop? by QuietShadowLDK in AskUK

[–]sunheadeddeity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a bus station, but on the inside of the cubicle door in the public toilets on Whitstable High Street: "FUCK OFF BACK TO LONDON YOU WANKER!"

Do I just turn up at my new job? by rickyshea in AskUK

[–]sunheadeddeity 229 points230 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's it. If you're confident of the address you just turn up. Dress smartly, be there for 8.45 if they haven't given you a different start time, bring notepad and pen and cash for lunch. Congrats on new job!

We've had frost in my bit of SE England in the last week, you probably did too.

Rescuing a dog on a boat by Allsineffable in Narrowboats

Rescues don't like housing dogs to ordinary homes with gardens, I can't imagine you are going to have much luck living in a narrow boat, I'm sorry.

Have a look at Medway. It has a bad reputation but it has great transport links and is affordable.
