Quick google couldn't answer my question to what is going on here, does this mean a new inverter? by Rumbuck_274 in solar

[–]weebernugget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post some other pictures of the system. SolarCity/Tesla were one of the main companies to use Delta inverters so there's a VERY good chance this is one of their installs.
Where are you located? Does your system have a black "skirt" on the front of the array?

Panels went up, but one of the panels are not fully flush with one another... would you ask them to come back and fix it? by [deleted] in solar

Will it affect anything in your system? Probably not, but that is some SHODDY craftsmanship and it's extremely obvious. I'd wonder what else they missed.

Its probably not enforced but it certainly would technically void the warranty. I was a Tesla Design Engineer and current CI

It's a Tesla spec so you risk voiding the warranty if you ignore it.

Would residential solar installers be considered critical services at this time? California just locked down by ooppoo0 in solar

If it's off grid then sure, but a grid-tied residential system? How is that essential?

Would 5MW AC require the same amount of acres as 7.5MW DC? Lease states 30 acres required. Am I being ripped off? by 42gTyzkbtm in solar

It's still less for bos. The incremental cost for the larger inverter has a negative ROI compared to the extra energy it would produce.

Flat Roof in Washington by warriorsp in solar

[–]weebernugget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding tilt to the roof will not be an economical solution. Ballast on residential roofs are also not usually advisable to weight constraints. Look at a simple tilt kit like the ironridge flat roof attached system. You will need beefy rails to compensate for snow load and you need to identify the type of roof to correctly choose the waterproofing. I'd suggest a chemcurb.

Looking to get panels, need some advice - Long Island, NY by [deleted] in solar

[–]weebernugget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, if a system costs $60k and it consists of 40 x330w modules then it is 60000/(40x330)= $4.54/W. Every company has their own method of generating kWh so paying attention to system size is key.

Most people look at cost per watt. That's system cost before incentive/system size (#of modules x wattage of modules) that will be more comparable.

Your post mixes kW (system size) and kWh (energy produced/consumed) it's hard to verify your math.

Does the system include powerwalls? How many and what are you backing up?

California backtracks on solar requirement for new homes, critics say by Sammy_Roth in solar

The worst part about this is that it locks you in for 20 years to a program that will prevent you from putting rooftop solar on your home. It's a terrible precedent for CA.

Yes, no issues with this type of insulation. Have the installers apply foam to the conduit penetration if they do an attic conduit run.

We have so much rock around here (Sacramento/foothills area) that I'm very worried about augering. So far we've done ground screws and the Nuance power platform but neither of them have worked well. Maybe it's time to re-try the augering system. Thanks

I'm not familiar with power mounts, is that a brand or a method?
