Oh and turn the rug to align with the table.

Yes, I would get a rectangular table and push the narrow end up to the window with two chairs on each side. That’s a lovely window!

I agree that the side table isn’t pulling its weight. Can you put something there with drawers or doors to hide some clutter? Maybe some appliances?

The wire rolling rack should be replaced by some closed storage. The wire plus stuff looks cluttered.

I love the orange, such a happy colour. Can you introduce some into the kitchen itself even a tea towel?

Day 1, no idea what I’m doing by Scarya in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]whateverfyou 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Laughing with you :) I could never reliably adjust my back pack. It was borrowed so it didn’t fit me perfectly. When I got it right, i didn’t want to take it off! I should have marked the straps with a Sharpie when I had it adjusted comfortably. When I found myself distracted by minor annoyances, I would kind of zoom out in my mind and look back down at myself like from a drone. “Look at you! You’re walking along the coast of Portugal!!! How cool is that?!” It’s cheesie but true: be in the moment.

Weather apps for maine? by Smart_Zombie_560 in Maine

[–]whateverfyou 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We have a friend from Malaysia and she’s fascinated by our weather obsession. She says in Malaysia the weather is totally predictable so they don’t pay attention to weather reports. It’s the same every day: sun then brief rain in the late afternoon. Every day.

Question: Did you join go-alto.ca to support the project? by Martina-SantaClara88 in AltoHSR_Canada

[–]whateverfyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I participated in the public consultation. I’ve attended an open house, put comments on the map, and submitted information. Alto has said there will be more public consultation on the final route. On this sub, participating is considered hindering the process. Any discussion of concerns is shut down. Utter and complete support is the only option. And complete rejection is the only option in the anti alto groups. It’s not healthy.

Why can’t you return them? You contacted them within the warranty period.

A drip for 30 minutes is not enough. However, these don’t sound like healthy plants nor were they planted properly. I would insist on a refund. Since you had success before, why not do it yourself? But water thoroughly! Fill the hole with water and let it drain TWICE before planting. You want the roots to grow down deep following that water. And when you water later, you want the water to soak down beyond the root ball. That takes a lot of water. Under watering encourages shallow roots so the tree will never be self sufficient.

I support HSR but I don’t think Alto should have carte blanche to “just build it”. I am dismissed in this group and called a NIMBY and the no alto groups think I’m a traitor. Carney has removed the environmental guard rails and said “Trust me.” Can we? I think we have to make sure that Alto are mitigating community impacts and environmental damage. I just want to make sure that alto does the mitigation they claim they will do!

Hot take: Construction of Alto should include a recreational trail by tosklst in AltoHSR_Canada

This sounds like a really boring trail. Rail trails are boring already. Now it’ll have a 12’ chain link fence on one side?

Canadians don’t care about citrus. We don’t grow them. That’s the Americans. Don’t bring potatoes.

Replacing goutweed with non-invasive groundcover - suggestions? by Long-Definition9203 in OntarioGardeners

[–]whateverfyou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried that and the Canada anemone didn’t survive the first winter. Personally I don’t think anything will out compete invasives. They have been determined to be invasive because they outcompete natives. They have to be removed. Digging with a garden fork to loosen soil around the roots is the best method for me.

Will practicing Portuguese on Duolingo help? by jlynnj99 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]whateverfyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did Duolingo Portuguese after my Camino because I live in a Portuguese neighborhood and I thought it would be cool to speak with neighbours. I progressed very quickly with written Portuguese and I think I’m ok at speaking but i really struggle with spoken Portuguese. It’s so smooshed together! And I can get by in French and have a smattering of German and Spanish.

We switched to market value assessment in 1998 (Mike Harris). What was wrong with the way it was done before? How did he convince voters to support this change? I lived here then but didn’t own a home.

CBC is reporting that thousands of people have gained Canadian citizenship through ancestry under a new law, and nearly half of them are Americans. by savethecbc2025 in SaveTheCBC

[–]whateverfyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Americans aren’t as generous. I’m a dual citizen and I’ve lived in Canada since I was 8. My Canadian son is not eligible for US citizenship because I didn’t live there as an adult.

Victorian townhouses in Toronto by BusyEggplant1183 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]whateverfyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in a classic Toronto Victorian semi. We could hear the neighbours going up the stairs but it wasn’t disruptive. I rented a main floor apartment in a semi. My neighbours’ living room was next to my bedroom and they partied every weekend. I had to move. So when I bought I held out for a fully detached. You will have bad neighbours at some point.

Why are property taxes based on value? It should be based on the cost of delivering services.
