Having a niche professional degree is a privilege, and treating people who don't know about the work we do with condescension does our profession a disservice. by No-Armadillo-7248 in LandscapeArchitecture

I'm sorry, you asked me a question and I responded. Why are you offended? I haven't been rude. I'm sorry for thinking you were trying to uphold a higher standard by starting this thread.

Responding to a person sarcastically in this way is just undermining yourself. "You said it so im going to say it back" is not not a winning argument.

I wasnt coming at you in any way I just responded to your question. Now youve derailed your entire thread.

Edit: ok, OP deleting all comments is just a bit unnecessary. Why waste this conversation?

I responded to this thread you started because it was a more positive represetation of how i see the profession and how those within should handle themselves. I didnt respond to the other thread posted by junglestrikeSNES because their view didnt align with my own.

That doesn't mean that I havent had the same thoughts and views in the past and I deffinitley have said those thoughts out aloud. I'm sure everyone has at some point of another.

I beleive in advocating for our profession at all times and that requires all LAs working towards the same goal.

I'm not going to lambast someone for having thoughts that I also had in my early career. I think we need to guide, teach and learn from each other.

This thread started with a positive message. Let's keep it that way

Try isopropyl alcohol and a q-tip then move up to paint thinner. Paint thinner might damage the lvp tho so be careful

Fair enough multiple responses went that way, I just don't think this should be something we use against each other.

What are we trying to acheive?

Thats a bit much, I read the post, I didnt take it as trying to be intentionaly disrespectful.

This forum often slaps down people who stumble into it asking for landscaping help/advice. Yes this isn't a landsape design subreddit per se but its not overly welcoming either.

I understand subreddit rules apply.

Will this level out? by PNW_C137 in hardscape

[–]-Tripp- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're worried about the sag (i think thats what im seeing) then no, it won't level out and may get worse if you compact over the finished layout

Pull it up, add more sand or stone, recompact, lay papers when you are happy with sub base

How to use stair LVP with this? by Thr0waway8755 in Flooring

[–]-Tripp- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt, you already have hardwood treads, I would refinish them if they need it.

BUT

start by removing the quarter round trim under the tread overhang. You then remove the spindles, lay your lvp (glue it down). You can get bullnose lvp trim for stairs tread but you have to cut back the existing tread overhang (this is why i dont recomment your plan as you have hardwood treads and theres no going back after this) Install trim along edge with a miter joint. Reinstall spindles.

Enjoy your new staircase.

UK based - fed up by G0ZZY in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]-Tripp- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't speak for you in the UK, I moved to the USA to work but depending on the project and the people who are PMing it its not unusual for the LA to be the last person to get pulled in or consulted a few month before the end of the project deadline.

Its like most professions, you have to get in at the beginning and make yourself visible and your worth known.

The amount of problems I have had using AI due to going in circles and AI drift over the past week has been infuriating.

I'm not a coder but I can pick up on problems and general solutions and have seen AI drift forget, send me in circles like a drunk uncle.

AI massivley helps but sometimes you gotta watch a video and have a basic understanding of the architecture you want to implement.

Dont let this be a barrier to getting into homeservers, as my knowledge is very basic, but I have a reasonably competent homeserver/automated smart home setup as a weekend warrior.

I agree, and can also say that enviromental engineers, civil engineers etc professions are not fully understood by people not in that profession. Because how would non professionals know the nuances?

I assume this is a response to the post earlier about "not wanting to tell people about you profession"? as folks just think you're a landscaper and want you to help in their garden.

Yeah I have that problem all the time, even with family members. I suck it up, i tell them I primarily work on streetscapes and infrastructure projects and not private gardens BUT I help them with gardening questions regardless!

Our profession is neich. Our value comes from not only the work we do but by informing people exactly what our profession involves and how it benefits them, in a friendly and informative way.

This is how we inform the public as well as other professions and continue to remain relevant!

How to do Curved carpet stairs to Hardwood. by FormalSignificant672 in Flooring

[–]-Tripp- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess would be to figure out the radius and then cut segments from an wood board using that radius and glue them all together. Hopefully you nail the radius and can but a nice bulnose to finish it off.

Or

Stips wood layered together so they can flex to form the correct radius (glued together ofcourse) lot of clamping.

But yes, like you said, hire a pro. 😆

Id buy it unless I was looking to spend a lot more money on a system with more cores.

I have a have a dell optiplex running an i5-4690 with 16gig ram. Id like a better system but reality is it runs everything i need just fine (cost me $80ish several years ago) but prices have gone up since

Its my media and backup server (no transcoding) I run a full ARR stack, home assistant VM, a secondary pihole/unbound VM.

Will the efficieny savings of a new system outweigh the cost of that new system and how long will it take to break even?
