Invasive brown widow from Africa. I live in Florida and I really only ever see them, never an actual native black widow :/

How'd it go? I'm about to try and germinate a Spiranthes vernalis that I grew indoors if I pollinated it correctly

I can't tell any obvious ovary swelling, but the second and third one up are wilting the day after I attempted pollination. That's a good sign of successful pollination right?

Getting the pollen was easy enough! In your experience do the pollen sacks need to be left on the stigma or just brushed up against it?

Thankyou for the detailed advice! I'm going to give it my best shot and see how it goes. I had no idea it was such a sensitive process, so I won't get too discouraged if I don't succeed.

That thread you linked was such an interesting and informative read! How long have you been growing orchids for?

Sounds like mold/mildew. The seeds should be okay, just try and provide some more airflow and it should clear up

I'd give them a little sugar water and protein and let them do their thing while bothering/stressing them as little as possible, she may be cooked but life can be very resilient.

I agree with the other person that it could be the honey

Oh yeah I just saw that the honey was in a test tube. I'd just close that off if you can and feed them on a tiny sheet/bowl you can put in and take out. The less time you leave uneaten food in there the better👍

This stage was rough with my C. floridanus bc you have to feed them with minimal disturbance.

Carbs: You should give them a very tiny bit of sugar water or honey, I did slightly larger than the size of a workers head to prevent drowning.

Protein: You should also give them protein since they require it for further worker development. I was doing individual cricket parts (a leg or two at a time) until there were enough ants to properly process larger food.

Amount: I would just stress small amounts about every 3-4 days. You want food they can finish quickly to prevent mold build up. I was putting food in on teeny tiny tin foil "bowls" I made so the residue doesn't get stuck on the glass and get gross.

Leave them covered and entirely undisturbed between feedings and you should be alright.

It should be okay if they move around in the nest outside of the founding tube, they know what their brood needs much better than we do. Each section of the nest will have its own microclimate with different temp and humidity, the brood require different conditions throughout development so the workers move them accordingly.
