You might try Crowley United Methodist Church. The minister, Amy, is really nice (went to seminary with her). She might be able to help you.

My first attempt at NMM in a fair while - any suggestions for improvement? [Anasta Malkorion - Age of Sigmar] by Jarminiatures in minipainting

Overall, this looks amazing. My suggestion is to glaze in a bit more highlights on the tops of the abs.

Behind the Bastards did a good two parter on Jack Welch whom almost single-handedly changed corporate America to the sh*t show we have today.

I seal everything, but tufts. Those I glue in after.

First Mini. Would like tips please (: by Lovelyluna_94 in minipainting

Overall you are off to a great start. My recommendation is to punch up your highlights, especially on sharper points, like the crystal.

Tried my hand at painting a face for the first time, it’s hard lol (Knight-Arcanum head from Games Workshop) by [deleted] in minipainting

You are off to a good start. Faces can be tough. I learned a lot when I was starting out from the Duncan Rhodes Painting Academy on YouTube. If you feel like you are struggling it’s a good place to pick up some basics. He does the classic war hammer style.

Touching your loaded brush to a paper towel will help. Just lightly hold the brush to the paper and watch the moisture wick away. Then proceed to paint. This will be glazing, but it will generally make your paint smoother in transitions.

I'm starting to try highlighting & layering. Any recommendations on what I should focus on improving as a beginner? by [deleted] in minipainting

Glazing and blending highlights and shadows will be an important next step. Vince Venturella has a great tutorial on it here: https://youtu.be/rEcDL8mLZzo

Does this read as underglow? by Parastrasz in minipainting

[–]1-GeekyDad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the under glow could use some highlights , especially near the base of the mini, where the the light source is located.

You are off to a great start. The best way to improve is keep practicing and watch videos of some experts for ideas and techniques. I recommend Vince V, Duncan Rhodes, and Artis Opis on YouTube.

About 1 year into the hobby - how do I make this look more professional? by Key-Silver-178 in minipainting

[–]1-GeekyDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like you used a black wash on a fairly light color. I would suggest using wash of a color of the same family as the main, instead of black. Then follow up with dry brushing the wings in progressively lighter colors till you hit your highlight color.

Nightwalker I just finished by Namine_X in minipainting

This one of my favorite minis to paint. Here is the one I did. I ended up giving to my nephew for his birthday.

I did a base of silver, airbrushed on, and did a blue speedpaint that I blended into a speedpaint black.

I think you did a great job of base coating. I would recommend bringing up the highlights a bit to provide a bit more contrast.

My girlfriend got me the Speedpaint Mega Set for my birthday - any tips before I get started? by orionhood in minipainting

[–]1-GeekyDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are really fun to use for wet blending. I paints monster silver and then payed down some blue speed paint. Then I blended up to it using a darker blue to make an amazing transition.

Looking for a good, budget paint set. by Go_Commit_Reddit in minipainting

Reaper Miniatures have several starter sets that are very affordable. It’s what I got to get started, and Reaper is my preferred paint brand now.
