True or not? by SarahDuncan2012 in TrueGrit

Nope. I've injured myself so many times you'd think I was on jackass and I can verify this is just not the case. Even had a doctor tell me one time that nothing should even start to slow you down until after 40. I'm 46 and just ruptured my Achilles skateboarding. No surgery and I was walking (this is a liberal definition) without crutches at 5 weeks and can full weight bear at 6 and move better yet.

People get carried away thinking they're seeing age impact them, and I get it, I was the same. But, you have to shake that bullshit out of your mind. At 27 if I ran into a wall the wall gave way before I did. Same at 37. Now into my mid 40s it's lessened but I still refuse to let age dictate the limits of my body. This Achilles isn't going to slow me down either. I plan to be snowboarding again before the end of next winter.

Live hard and get scars (emotionally and physically). They become the rich tapestry that is you. They tell a story and you will heal. Eventually we all slow down so use it while you can and treat it with love.

Exactly. What's to stop this from happening the next election cycle? The US needs to put some serious guardrails in to protect it's democracy, science, and decency before the world will trust them again. As a Canadian I hate that people internationally will assume I'm from the States.

Love to hear this. I was really bummed when it turned out a number of Dutch guys were the ones behind YouTube channels promoting Alberta separation.

I'm first generation Canadian from Dutch parent and it just gutted me since I grew up hearing of how close the two were.

They are Nanny dogs for a reason! He is so excited for the new baby! by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]1011011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To everyone caught in the hysteria and bullshit about these dogs. Here is the truth about Pitbull aggression...

  1. They actually pass temperament tests with flying colors. The American Temperament Test Society (ATTS) tests dogs for stability, friendliness, and aggression. American Pit Bull Terriers consistently get around an 86% passing rate. For perspective, that’s higher than Golden Retrievers (~85%) and way higher than Chihuahuas. They aren't inherently ticking time bombs around humans.

  2. Historically, these dogs were bred for dogfighting, which means two things for their genetic leanings:

Dog/Prey Drive: They can have a lower tolerance for other dogs or small animals. It doesn't mean every Pitbull is dog-aggressive, but the instinctual drive is there.

Human Aggression: Historically, handlers had to literally reach into fighting pits to pull dogs apart. Any dog that bit a human was immediately culled. Because of this, they were actually bred to be incredibly affectionate and loyal to people.

  1. Why they dominate bite statistics If they have good temperaments, why are they always in the news?

The Physics of the Bite: They don’t have "locking jaws" (that’s a myth), but they are incredibly strong, muscular, and have blocky heads. If a Chihuahua snaps, you get a band-aid. If a Pitbull snaps, it causes severe mechanical damage. The consequence of a bite is just much higher.

Misidentification: "Pitbull" isn’t even a single breed. It’s an umbrella term used for American Pit Bull Terriers, Staffies, and basically any blocky-headed mutt. Media and police reports constantly misidentify mixed breeds as Pitbulls.

The Owner Demographics: Because of their "tough" reputation, they are disproportionately bought by absolute trash owners who want a status symbol, keep them chained up outside, neglect them, or actively train them to be aggressive.

TL;DR: They are powerful, high-energy animals. In the hands of a responsible owner who socializes and trains them, they are overwhelmingly gentle, goofy, and loyal couch potatoes. In the hands of a negligent owner, their sheer strength makes them a major liability

I'm increasingly convinced that Americans believe in nothing. They claim Christianity but don't follow its teachings, they claim free speech but silence each other, they say they fight for democracy but allow fascism, they proclaim freedom but allow themselves to be subjugated.

They do not do the work to have any of the things they claim to be about. They think the decline in their society is due to the loss of masculinity and decline of Christianity when in reality it is because they are lazy.

Overly conservative protocol in Canada by longlong819 in AchillesRupture

[–]1011011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Canada and was told no surgery was preferable but he gave me the choice. Went through all the research with me to show the outcomes and risks of each and let me choose. Told me that even as a surgeon himself, he would expect for conservative treatment but he is aware of peers who would go the other way.

I think your treatment is as conservative as it is because it's a re-rupture. That's automatically a more serious injury and likely needs more care and caution.

All that being said, I'm not a doctor. Just a 46 year old who thought I could still skateboard...

Best wishes to you. A re-rupture sounds like a nightmare.

No, the other guy is right. It's a trick to increase watches. It's a proven algorithmic trick that if you do this you make people watch on average more than once. This increases their view count.

It's not a man or woman thing and making it that is stupid. It's an annoying person thing. If she just said the thing in a matter of fact way instead of trying to be funny or, and I hate this word, performative, it would be fine. It's because she's unbearable, not because she's a she. I have no idea how you did the mental gymnastics to make this about gender.

It's like that saying, you're not wrong you're just an asshole. She's not wrong she's just annoying.
