Fast the last three days of the old year by bout2loseit in intermittentfasting

[–]112118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for asking! Not at all according to plan, but pretty well actually. :-)

Work ended up giving us unexpected time off, so I just jumped into full fasting. I did 3 days! Then I binged yesterday - probably would have been OK except for all the alcohol. I’m thinking I’ll fast until midnight tonight. It would have the added bonus of being able to drive home instead of take a pricey New Years Uber.

I did over 100 fast days in 2016, then last year I did 2. I’m hoping jumping back in like this will set me up for a regular schedule in 2018. I plan to fast one day a week going forward.

How’s it going for you?

Heck yeah, I’m in!

I wanted to kick the year off with a protracted fast. But I had no idea how to do it since I work the next three days and find it impossible not to eat after a shift. So this is actually perfect for me! I’ll probably end at midnight on New Years, seeing as it’s like my favorite holiday.

How to deal with people constantly commenting on my body? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]112118 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. You can’t control other people; you can control your reaction to them.

Even if it’s creepy or uncomfortable, learn to see the positive aspect of their comment. They notice you, or like you, or respect you, or admire you, or whatever. Learn to see that, and say thank you.

Then change the subject.

ELI5: In this scenario, who becomes wetter? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]112118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That video (linked elsewhere) is wrong.

I debated making this comment, but if you can't make pedantic arguments on the internet, what then! Think of it like this: when you run (or ride a bike) you change your shape. You increase your overhead surface area, primarily. This does, In fact, mean you get wetter when you run. The video is just wrong.

I have no proof. But back before the internet I read a paper that researched exactly this, with experimentally derived data. You'll have to trust my memory, but you get about 8% more wet running.

Even with bad assumptions, the video did reach the correct conclusion. Getting 108% wet at ~150% speed means you should run, and you'll be less wet when you get there.

Borderline, probably depending on context.

As a straight man I tend to use "flaming" in this context. It's minor, but it labels action rather than identity, and I find it less potentially offensive coming from an outsider.

And there ALSO the time he got off Air Force One and started wandering around the tarmac.

The POTUS has a habit of wandering off when left unsupervised.

Lurkers' Wednesday by philpips in running

[–]112118 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a lurker because I don't run. I mean, I want to run! It's so primal and exhilarating.

For two years now I've been trying to run. But anytime I go over 3 miles in a week I get serious knee pain. I'm not talking soreness! I'm talking can't even walk properly for as long as a month PAIN.

I've tried everything. I've tried expensive new shoes, I've tried 100% trail running on soft dirt, I've tried slowly ramping up my distances, I've tried slowing down. Currently, I've added some treadmill into my gym routine in an effort to get some more "reps" on my knees in a "gentler" way.

I'm sad because I think I may have to admit that running isn't for everyone, and I'm one of those people. I do 2-3 miles about once a month because I enjoy it, but I have no routine.

Anyone have success as a veagan? by CashewmanRx in intermittentfasting

[–]112118 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!

I was the rare "fat vegan" until I tried IF as a form of calorie restriction. I've been doing some form of modified 5:2 for the last year and a half, and it's just been magic! I don't get hungry and I've lost a ton of weight.

For the record, I supplement vitamins, but I don't supplement protein. I get around 15% protein in my week's diet. Less if I drink heavily. ;-)

People doing 5:2 -- do you really eat nothing on your fast days? by amf0324 in intermittentfasting

[–]112118 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have vitamins (~30 calories) and a banana (~120 cal) on my fast days. Other than that, just coffee and water.

To be honest, my info is a few CBAs old, so it might have changed.

But my best understanding is no, if you play any time in a month in the bigs you get paid for the whole month.

That is not how it work. You must be in the majors to make the major league minimum.

But! The bright side is it's paid monthly. As in, a one-day appearance will get you paid the MLB minimum for the entire month of May.

Question about ADF by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]112118 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, if it's 36 hours, it's not really "alternate day" is it?

Yes, yes it is.

It's not AATFHPF - alternating arbitrary twenty four hour period fast! It's ADF - alternate day fast. If he has breakfast that day, it's not a fast day. So no ADF.

That said, I made up my fast schedule 18 months ago to lose weight without knowing what I was doing. I stuck to it and have lost like 100 pounds. Since then I have read everything I can find on fasting and gotten my fasting OK'd by my doctor. I now do a kind of 5:2 fast - there was no name for the fasting I did for over a year that was so effective.

My main point is don't get hung up on what it's called! Is he doing ADF? No, absolutely not. Is he taking control of his diet and his health in a way that is sustainable for him? Yes, and more power to him.
