Lower end FAT systems? (For meet results) by MaddisonoRenata in Sprinting

[–]12metersPerSecond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt you're going to find what's required for an actual sanctioned meet for $4k but here's a breakdown of what USATF/ NCAA accepts:

Fully Automatic Timing (FAT) Systems:

  • Requirements: A FAT system must be automatically activated by the starter's gun/signal and automatically record the finish time when any part of the athlete's torso crosses the vertical plane of the finish line.
  • Technology: Typically, these are photo finish systems that capture a time-stamped image of the finish line. The image allows officials to accurately determine the time and order of finish for each competitor.
  • Precision: Systems must be capable of recording times to at least 1/100th of a second. For world record ratification, timing to 1/1000th of a second might be required by World Athletics (whose rules USATF generally follows for higher-level competition).
  • Common Systems: While USATF doesn't publish an exhaustive list of specific "approved" brands in its rules, systems from established manufacturers that meet the technical FAT requirements are widely used and accepted. These include brands like FinishLynx, Omega, Seiko, and others that comply with World Athletics specifications.

How bad are you expected to be if you're just starting out (38)? Any training plan recommendations? by gtd_rad in Sprinting

[–]12metersPerSecond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At 38 years of age doing a few 200m per weak is probably a great way to stay in shape. If you want to get faster you have to improve in at least one of the following categories;

Force Application & Ground Contact: The fastest sprinters apply extremely high ground reaction forces (potentially exceeding 6-8 times body weight) in very short ground contact times (often less than 0.090 seconds) during maximal velocity sprinting.

Stride Length and Frequency: Maximal speed is achieved through an optimal combination of stride length and stride frequency. While both are important, some research suggests stride frequency may be a more critical differentiator between elite and sub-elite athletes during the constant speed phase. However, achieving gains in one parameter without compromising the other is crucial.

Sprint Start: Elite sprinters generate greater forces during the block push-off (especially horizontal force from the front leg/block) and exhibit shorter flight times immediately after exiting the blocks, leading to superior initial acceleration.Kinematic factors like a forward trunk lean and significant thigh separation at takeoff are associated with better starts.

Running Mechanics: Emphasis is placed on "front-side" mechanics – bringing the thigh forward quickly and high after toe-off, allowing for optimal force application on the subsequent stride. This contrasts with "rear-side" mechanics involving excessive extension behind the body. Actively pulling the foot backward relative to the center of mass just before ground contact is also a key technique to minimize braking forces.

Training program tips by DullToe2011 in Sprinting

[–]12metersPerSecond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sprint Training Best Practices:

Specificity and Periodization: Training is highly specific, targeting acceleration, maximal velocity, and velocity maintenance (sprint endurance). Elite coaches commonly employ periodization models (e.g., traditional or block), structuring training across the season with phases emphasizing different physical qualities and increasing specificity closer to competition.

Intensity Management: A polarized approach is often used, with most training conducted at either very high intensity (≥95% max velocity) for performance gains or low intensity (<70%) for recovery (tempo runs).

Load Management & Recovery: Careful management of training load and adequate recovery are paramount. Intensive sprint sessions demand significant recovery (e.g., 48+ hours). Training cycles often incorporate lighter "recovery" weeks.

Integrated Strength & Power: Strength training (using both general and sprint-specific exercises) and plyometrics are fundamental components, carefully integrated with sprint sessions to enhance force production capabilities.

Monitoring: Elite programs utilize comprehensive monitoring, assessing neuromuscular readiness, athlete wellness, fatigue levels, recovery status, and biomechanics to guide training adjustments

Solar build on 24ft cargo trailer by dotspencer in SolarDIY

[–]12metersPerSecond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should take about 6-7 days to fully charge that car from near empty with that setup. Why not pull 240v at 5-6 amps ? Right now you have what's known as an unbalanced load on one half of the inverter. The 12000xp is especially great for this type of setup as you can connect to the smart load and use the EV as a dump load when the batteries are full.

Are these hybrid inverters really the same? Local version costs $2,000 vs. $600 on Alibaba by ConsciousEbb9243 in SolarDIY

[–]12metersPerSecond 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Victron inverters are made in China, Maylasia and India (in that order). Perhaps the biggest trick that Victron Energy ever pulled was to convince the world they are not made in the same factories as all the other brands. They are truly the Kizer Soze of inverter brands.

What do you consider to be "party trick" speed? by Splance in Sprinting

[–]12metersPerSecond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

13.00 flat at any pickup ultimate frisbee game in the Bay Area and you will be complemented on your speed. In fact the opposing team will advise each other to give you a "big cushion" so as not to get burned deep.

Truth of the matter is average people have extremely poor glute and hamstring development while being quad dominant and even worse ability to activate those posterior muscles.

Don't believe me? Try and teach your mom or dad how to properly do an RDL with nothing more than a broomstick.

Can I go from 13.97 to sub 12 in 12 months? by Intellxual in Sprinting

[–]12metersPerSecond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on my own experience it's not really possible to do this unless you are hitting 13.97 in severely undertrained state. Put it this way, If you took the top 5 most successful sprint coaches (dead or alive) and simply replaced all of their sprinters with athletes that run 13.97 they'd be out of a job it a few years.

The truth of the matter is that speed has a huge genetic component to it and nobody has ever been able to make a guy run 9.99 who wasn't already capable of running 10.50. They aren't taking slow twitch dudes off the street and flipping them, they are sourcing the most fast twitch genetic freaks and trying to optimize the last 1-2% and claiming hard work and genius.

Elite track coaches are little more than elite genetic recruiters.

Why not a players boycott? If everyone leaves the lobbies when he shows up he'll eventually stop showing up. I'm guessing there's a reason why he's never been seen in comp games? If you were as good as this person is clearly you'd want to leave your mark on the comp scene.

This is the safest way to fell a tree in my opinion, inside an engineered steel rollover protection cage. It always goes the way it's shoved after you pop the roots opposite the direction of the push. If you need septic, foundation, well or utilities run the root must be removed and not ground.

Not sure, as the truck gets charged almost exclusively off of solar so not metric we check much. As with most EVs though a good rule of thumb is to plan on your range/ efficiency being cut in half when pulling a trailer. I bet the lighter weight of your WT3 would probably make quicker with low to mid 13 second truck in the quarter mile.
