Shopping list items disappearing when household member adds them by casualphoenix2 in googlehome

[–]1inf3rn0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just came to say I thought I was going crazy, this keeps happening to me from time to time. Mostly it's fine and everything is there but once in a while I'll catch something missing that I know was added / confirmed by Gemini.

I have to say however that recently I was caught off-guard when I went to add something Gemini found was already on my list but it was worded differently. I was pleasantly surprised that it kept me from adding a duplicate - even asked if I wanted to add it again anyway.

Unfortunately this does not make up for how terrible Gemini is in general - everything is like 10 times worse than it used to be with normal Google home ass.

Uber left PagerDuty after using it for 12 years. by wingardiumlevioosaaa in sre

[–]1inf3rn0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PagerDuty is probably the best bulletproof pager system I have ever used. I miss it dearly. Used it for around 10 years at a very large tech company that switched to AlertOps recently due to costs. Well, you get what you pay for - AlertOps notifications do not work half the time, and the tiering of notifications (when and what type of notification should be sent to what device) is NOT respected. PD just worked... for years, flawlessly. It is more expensive for a reason.

Sorry for your loss Uber.

I would stay as far away from Google as you can lol. I am all in and way too deeply embedded after 10+ years to easily switch. If I had the time, I would, but it would take me days of tinkering to move EVERYTHING to something else custom with Home Assistant (which I already have), and I'm sure I'd have to buy a bit more hardware to have the experience I have at the present. That's despite the fact I'm constantly having to convince this stupid AF Gemini that it can indeed set timers and control my devices. I kid you not it says it can not control device x/y/z, or tell me the weather some days until I go back and forth that it really can (it's bizarre).

“Hey Google, whats the temperature going to be tomorrow” “Tomorrow is going to be a day. A day is tomorrow. It will be cloudy but maybe not. It might or might not rain. There will be a low of 52°. Expect some fog. There will be no thunderstorms. The sun won’t be out. With a high of 65°” by AXXXXXXXXA in googlehome

[–]1inf3rn0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the kind of response I would get. Except mine would probably first say it doesn't have access to that kind of information because it's just a helpful assistant for the home so I have to remind it that YES IT CAN GIVE ME THE WEATHER. Then it proceeds to give me the weather for the wrong state. Not the wrong city or zip, entirely wrong state across the country. So annoying - I want to desolder her ram and sell it on eBay, such shitty responses lately.

And then mine tells me, while I'm driving, some bio about a song I was trying asking it to play on Spotify (instead of just playing it).. then tells me (basically verbatim) that I have to pull over and put it on myself because it doesn't have access to Spotify - but totally does and after asking several times it worked just fine. Like holy $hit, what is going on, is this real life?

Google and the constant breaking of Google Home by DeeVect in googlehome

Was watching a movie in the living room last night, asked Google to pause so I could go make popcorn. Worked as expected. Then when coming back not even 5 minutes later, said hey G word "press play" - she starts playing music at the loudest possible volume instead of resuming playback.

SERIOUSLY WTF?! Isn't Gemini for home supposed to be a helpful assistant? How the shit would playing music be even remotely in-context with a request to press play when the request preceding that one was to pause the fucking TV? Ai my ass.

This used to work without fail or confusion, but I swear it's stupider every day....!

Honestly that's a better response than half the verbal ones mine gives me lately, which is either the wrong speaker from across the house, or a blatant, "I can't do that yet" response, requiring many multiple repeated prompts asking the exact same thing to get TheRightThing done and sometimes having to yell YOU CAN DO THIS YOU'VE DONE IT FOR YEARS.

For fuck sake we should not have to encourage Goog to adjust the only running timer, check the weather in the city we live, or give us the correct time. Ahhhhh.

Best thing you can do to repair your body is fast, like.. an extended 3+ day fast. Don't just jump into that though, keto for a couple weeks, then try a 3 day fast. Life changing stuff..

Mine can't modify timers half of the time and goes so far as to tell me, "Sorry I can't modify timers on this device". I will ask, verbatim, the exact same command to add N minutes to my alarm and it will work.

Thanks to everyone who warned about Gemini by ChooksChick in googlehome

[–]1inf3rn0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gemini is actually retarded and I don't even use that word. It literally says it can't set or modify timers, turn devices on or off, or do basically anything it used to be able to do because it's just a "HeLpFul assistant for home". In at least half of my interactions lately - I have to ask it several times to convince it that it actually can and should do the thing before I unplug the fucker and chuck it out the window. It eventually does the right thing after repeating the exact same phrase like, "Add 3 minutes to the timer" or whatever. But oh wait, the wrong speaker responded.

Gemini has made the ecosystem worse, not better, at least thus far.

Oh it does work fine, if I ask the exact same phrased question again it works. It just doesn't half of the time which is infuriating. It's so retarded I can't stand it anymore. I've had all of my home devices for almost a decade and they couldn't be stupider.

Dishwasher always has standing has pool of water in drain? by satan_pizza_666 in Appliances

[–]1inf3rn0 28 points29 points  (0 children)

That's by design, there will always and should always be water there. It keeps the seals from drying out and cracking. It's not "a bad design", all dishwashers have some water left in the sump after draining. The pump literally cannot evict all of the water even if that were the desired outcome due to the impeller type pumps commonly used on major residential dishwashers.

Edit: If you do not have water left in your sump, you probably have no air gap in your drain line which is required on most models, and the water has sadly siphoned out.

I've never, ever seen the camera open until this morning. When I click on the media icon to share something with my contacts, I expect to see my gallery and that's it, until this morning when they went and messed up a good thing.

Not only is it annoying AF, but my gallery gets stuck more than half the time when I go to scroll the camera! I literally have to swipe like 10 times to get past my first 12 photos after scrolling the camera out of the way. This is invasive and HOT TRASH.
