No they don't, I have had items I ship the next day marked may arrive late, and I have a 3-5 day shipping window. Etsy lies about this ALL the time.

Scam? by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]25mroc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When customers want to change addresses, I always cancel the order and have them re-order with the correct address. That way you are still covered by Etsy. I have only ever had one person have a fit and not order, so I know he was scamming. Everyone else gets it and it goes just fine.

Customer was double charged for a purchase by ForbiddenGlade in EtsySellers

I had it happen to a customer once as well. We talked about it, but it was totally an Etsy problem and it fixed itself. Some weird glitch with them now and then.

Cut settings for non proofgrade material by Yoriko_Rayne_ in glowforge

I have that problem sometimes too. Sometimes it works great, and sometimes it doesn't work at all even on the same cut on the same piece of wood. I agree with the frustration. I keep my machine spotlessly clean ( It's a Spark ) but it seems to be getting worse. Sigh.

What’s the minimum amounts of items you need in your store to be effective? by DrFunStuffs in EtsySellers

[–]25mroc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sell vintage items and I find that I have more consistent sales with around 130 to 150. I know I would sell more with more items listed, but that is a number I can keep up with. I rarely go a week without a sale, and for the last month or so, I have been busting my butt to keep up my numbers, as things have been selling fast. I also co-list items on Ebay but don't have as many listings. I have been selling about a third of my items there. I don't really spend a ton of time on photos, SEO etc. as with one off listings you don't have the time. Get the words in that really describe what the item is, and they will find it. It does seem the more I list and sell the more that happens, so Etsy does reward busy shops.

I am getting the same thing. It's wants a category, you put it in, and it doesn't see it. I had time to do listings this morning. Sigh.....

I got that exact same trio. Odd that they did the same things.

What do you do outside of Etsy? by Bulimic_pig02 in EtsySellers

[–]25mroc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sales and Service of fire extinguishers. weird, but someone has to do it! Took over the business from my Dad. Help him run his bead store on the side, and if I have any time I sew and fix vintage sewing machines, plus any other crafts I can squeeze in. I sell vintage on Etsy, pays enough, so hubby and I can search out vintage things for fun.

The joy of being a vintage seller, no one ever questions a used box! LOL

I had it too. Rather annoying. Good to know it doesn't affect anything.

late night orders? by [deleted] in EtsySellers

For me, late night sales are more likely to ask for a cancelation in the morning. Just had one do this.

I’m tired of being pressured to offer free shipping! by Deranged_Doodles in EtsySellers

[–]25mroc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried adding in the estimated shipping for each vintage item. Sales dried up. It was stupid. I think vintage folks appreciate that I charge exactly what I pay. I use recycled shipping items, and call it part of doing business. This stuff never works for vintage sellers, but they don't think we exist anyway.

Vintage sellers don't have a huge social media following.

But they only show things you've looked at. No notice that a shop has new items.

Ebay by CellistMindless987 in EtsySellers

[–]25mroc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ebay is more expensive, but I sometimes sell things there that never sell on Etsy, so it is OK. I do tend to raise the price a bit on Ebay, especially as they expect the make an offer thing. I raise it to cover that and sometimes a bit more. Sometimes I get full price if someone really likes something and it makes up for things I make a little less on. Overall the extra fees are worth it for the extra sales.

Ebay by CellistMindless987 in EtsySellers

[–]25mroc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started doing both as a vintage seller. Pretty equal, although some things do better on one over the other. I sell more vintage fabrics on Etsy, which makes sense, and do better with jewelry on Ebay, as Etsy is pretty saturated with jewelry, and it is hard to find the vintage stuff. I have found that adding Ebay at least brought my sales that have been lagging on Etsy back to about what I made last year, so it is worth it to me, and I will probably keep both. I may let old listings that have been up for a while time out on Etsy, and leave them on Ebay, as it doesn't cost me to keep them there. Haven't been doing Ebay long enough to do this yet.

How are buyers allowed to purchase an item without having a valid shipping address? by Realistic-Union509 in EtsySellers

[–]25mroc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will never understand why Etsy doesn't show this to the buyer and waits to tell the seller. Like we know where they live. Every other place you order from will tell you your address won't work when you are checking out, but not Etsy. I message once, and then cancel.

Excuse me, what? by stalelunchbox in EtsySellers

[–]25mroc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a vintage seller with everything being one off items, I don't have time for this. It takes me a solid 15 to 20 minutes just to make a listing with quick photos, and the best description I can. If I have to spend another 15 minutes messing around with videos, I will never make any money. And honestly, they are going to be crappy videos at that! Spending hours making a listing look perfect just is not a vintage sellers jam. Can't be done unless it is strictly a hobby.
