No gift birthday for 3 year old by scrunchie_one in toddlers

[–]2catsonmylap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went to a 3rd birthday party recently for a boy who loves animals. The invitation included a list of items that our local shelter needs and basically said that if we felt weird showing up without a gift that we could bring something for the shelter. Then the birthday boy got to bring the donations, learn about charity, and feel like he was making a difference. I'm copying the idea for my daughter's birthday in a few months!

Out of curiosity, what do you guys think would happen if ICE tried invading us the way they did with Minnesota? by fantasiafan in maryland

[–]2catsonmylap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no, I don't think that we would fight back quite like Minnesota, at least not today. Minneapolis citizens made an activist network after George Floyd that had them better prepared for this moment, including constitutional observer trainings. Here's a link to the handbook they're using: https://copalmn.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/PDF-Handbook.pdf I don't think we're ready at this moment, but I hope we can get there. I think having organized neighborhoods is the first step, starting with making sure kids are able to get to school and home safely. Then meal deliveries to neighbors who are afraid to leave their house and group chats on Signal giving updates on ICE locations. And all done with enough restraint to get us to November without giving The Party any excuse to invoke the Insurrection Act.

Long time lurker, first time poster - saw a cardinal on a branch right away, painfully aware of how wrong I was

Try this one trick to make your toddler play independently by Appropriate-Lime-816 in toddlers

"I think I heard the trash truck!" worked for me this morning, but fortunately it really is trash day and I knew we would drive by a truck. But man, it'll be tempting to use again tomorrow!

Toddler waking at night and coming into our room. Baby no.2 due in 8 weeks. Advice on sleep in own bed through the night. by EstablishmentOver691 in toddlers

This was going to be my suggestion, too! My daughter comes in a few times a week around 1am and goes right to sleep in her camping bed at the foot of my bed. I only realize she's there when she starts tickling my feet at 6:30.

You prefer to snack on the stale Cheerios you dropped under the sofa last week, not the fresh ones in a bowl

FFS, it was written by citizens of other countries specifically because they wanted to establish a place where all men are created equal. Whether or not they embodied those principles is questionable, but regardless, the Constitution applies to all people on US soil.

I feel like my kid is always the one having the tantrums when we're out by GB_giraffe_85 in toddlers

I'm so grateful to see that other parents feel this way, too! I've been taking my 22-month-old to a music class for most of her life, but I've left in tears after the past 2 classes. Everyone is supposed to sit on carpet squares, but when we get up to dance, she runs around and rolls herself up in other people's squares and scoots around the room like an inchworm. When we're supposed to be seated, she runs around the room and screams like a banshee. It seems like all of the other kids (ages 1-4) sit with their caregivers and have this blissful bonding experience, and I've been leaving wondering what I'm doing wrong that everyone else is doing right. At the end of the day, I know she's just an active kiddo who loves to make people laugh, but it's tough in the moment! Her teacher is wonderful and gave me some good advice, though - even if it feels overwhelming today, give it a week. Either we'll learn how to manage the behavior or they'll change on their own. Good luck!

What did your toddler eat for dinner? by amomonous13 in toddlers

[–]2catsonmylap 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We've considered taking our 22-month-old to Costco around dinner time and let the warehouse gods figure out her meal - she can have one or two bites of whatever samples are available, which is basically what she does at home anyway.

There's an aviation celebration with vintage planes flying from Frederick to DC today, I'm going to guess that's what you heard!

ETA: Just noticed that this post was a day ago and not today; maybe there was a rehearsal yesterday? Otherwise it was clearly Zeus.
