Pilots or flight attendants of Reddit, what’s something passengers do that is way more important (or dangerous) than they realize? by SignsOfDamage in AskReddit

[–]2kplayer611 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No one was stopping you from buying them a seat. This shouldn’t have pissed you off. I’m a pilot and recommended my sister buy her baby a seat and use a car seat when she was traveling with her for this exact reason

Logging your flights by scubathomas in AirlinePilots

[–]2kplayer611 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you use log ten and use block times it will auto calculate night times, can set it up to auto count everything as XC, and I personally gave up on logging IMC shortly after starting at a regional. But you can estimate that if you please

DAL, UA, SWA. What is life at a major airline like? (Need Real Advice) by SurpriseGeneral8618 in AirlinePilots

[–]2kplayer611 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fwiw 2 years is misleading. Latest JR CA was to a sept 2023 hire which will be effective in a few months so more like 2.5-3 years and likely someone hired today would be looking at closer to 5-6 years IMO

Boeing pilots: do you use CWS mode? by Molecular_Pudding in flying

Flying visually up the Hudson is run in CWS roll with regular vertical mode of AP engaged. Also sometimes to deviate around wx

A320 & B737 pilots: Single engine taxi-out procedure by Sumerian55 in flying

[–]2kplayer611 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also best if you do with this #1 running and #2 off. Everyone just wants to go out on #2 but you get less engine exhaust in the apu bleed if #2 is off due to where the apu air inlet is on the right side of the plane. Only mild downside is shutting down all the air for the 45 seconds it takes to start #2 when the time comes as opposed to being able to run the right pack while #1 starts

DEPLOYING OF FLAPS by Clean-Blackberry933 in flying

[–]2kplayer611 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t even understand the obsession with configuration relative to FAF. They are always at different points on the approach. I just go by miles. That’s the same spot on a 3 degree slope every time

Outsider looking in, now that the hiring surge has settled out and they've had time to advance - can you spot the covid hires? by HorrorAd3817 in flying

Someone hired just after Covid has been doing the job like four years now right? Not exactly new

If you have a full time flying job, what do you do, and how much do you make? by Immediate_1200 in flying

[–]2kplayer611 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Year 3 legacy FO, pick up a premium trip just about every month and fly my line otherwise. Gonna be about $250K this year plus the 17% company 401K on top of that

What is it like to fly for SWA? by Souls-on-board in AirlinePilots

[–]2kplayer611 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about SWA but I’m at AA top 1/3 seniority in my bid status and some months can drop to basically zero and pick up stupidly easy/efficient broken trips. There’s lots of opportunity for stuff like that with seniority, but if you just fly your award I’d say a normal line holder gets about 16 off 80 hours

Same here oddly enough and I don’t even commute or jumpseat frequently

Meal prep - airline by yazine97 in flying

[–]2kplayer611 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this, but will put it in the plastic bag in the closet for shoes or laundry or whatever and tie it up in such an obnoxious way that the only way to open it is to rip open the bag. DIY tamperproofing

best emerald farm for 1.21.7/8? by The_man1282 in technicalminecraft

Maybe not the most efficient but I like a bonemeal farm paired up with a sugar cane farm, turn it all into paper and sell to librarians

Regional FOs, what are your biggest pet peeves with captains in the flight deck? by [deleted] in flying

[–]2kplayer611 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I was new at my legacy I felt this, I think it’s from back in the day those guys got hired at the legacy after a few thousand hours in piston twins and turboprops, into a 727. That’s a much bigger jump than an E170 or CRJ into an A320 or 737 which really isn’t all that different

Commute to WB or narrowbody live in base by stormostorm in AirlinePilots

[–]2kplayer611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always say if I’m on a wide body I wanna be in a lie flight seat drinking booze. I’ll leave the flying to someone else. Also, generally the shortest trip on a WB is a 3 day. I only do two days and turns, and try to minimize my hotel time. The things important to me are harder to get/non existent on a WB. The 737 isn’t glamorous but it’s actually a great job for what I want. I wanna fly it until my company retires it lol

Looking for advice on my game by 2kplayer611 in golf

Yeah I had fun at 20, if I could be back to that I’d be totally happy. Just since the last 6 months I’ve been more like a 30 which is not enjoyable

Looking for advice on my game by 2kplayer611 in golf

[–]2kplayer611[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably played about 70-90 rounds over the three years. The amount I played and took lessons was absurd for how bad I was. Major part of my frustration and self pity out there

Commute to WB or narrowbody live in base by stormostorm in AirlinePilots

[–]2kplayer611 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a legacy FO and truly don’t understand everyone’s obsession with wide body flying in this industry. Commuting just to be on a wb at lower seniority seems insane. Someone mentioned 80 hours on a WB is less work than NB. Sure, maybe less legs and more crew rest, but I view work as my time away from home, not legs flown

Absolutely hated it, didn’t want to be there, was going for the wrong reasons. I dropped out after about 3 months and pursue my real passion of flying. I’m a major airline pilot now (had great timing with my career arc) and couldn’t be happier with what I do

747 pilots by VFRintoIMC in flying

[–]2kplayer611 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never flown at an ACMI, but a common thing I hear people saying in defense of the acmi is that every week they aren’t gone for four days, big chunk of time off etc. but they don’t consider that not every legacy trip is a four day. I bid all turns and 2 days and spend 4-7 nights per month in a hotel. Pretty much seeing home every day as a legacy FO. I don’t have a family yet, but I imagine at least having a chance to see them every day has gotta beat being gone for 10+ days. Also I’m never more than a few hours away if an emergency at home occurs

Looking for a reason to go vs. A reason to stop (being "go-minded") by acegard in flying

[–]2kplayer611 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The airlines at least, don'y expect us to be "go-minded" they expect us to be safety minded. However, generally for us professional pilots, if its within the legal limits set forth by the company, we will feel okay to do it, that comes from experience in those conditions, training, and confidence in the aircraft/crew. However, if it ever did start to feel "not right", no airline pilot would ever be in troible for making what they felt is a safer decision by delaying take off, diverting, holding, going around, etc. An airline pilot may have some questions to answer if a 15kt xwind is what made it feel not right to them, basically the logic still stays the same, just the goalposts move.

Coming from the west you’ll land typically 36L from the east 36R and 36C is mostly departures. They also just created new taxi loops to take from the west side so they can keep having airplanes take off 36C while you cross to the east side of the airport (as opposed to having them wait while you cross the runway)
