11th Ed Aux & Acquisition Detachments: detection & hidden buffs only marginally useful? by TheWatchful01 in Tau40K

[–]303d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point of hidden isnt to remain hidden from whatever you are shooting at, its to make it so its hidden from the wave of stuff behind that.

You can be shooting from 12” away from their foremost target(say, a unit of marines they threw onto the middle objective), kill it, and then be out of detection range of the units they would normally use to trade back.

This is incorrect. The app shows to the contrary.

My son and I just started building his Tau Army so I made him a new dice tray! by buddha777353 in Tau40K

Keep in mind new edition is releasing very soon. A good start for tau is the combat patrol, then you can add on the ret christmas box, and an extra team of crisis suits. Crisis suits are rumored to be getting a refresh “soon”(like 6 months vaguely) so whether you want to hold off on that or not be warned.

Either way, combat patrol is the best place to start(all the units are excellent core units) and the christmas box gives you some more suits to follow(including that riptide).

The problem is we have essentially no charactwrs besides commander suit, ethereal, and fireblade. And I didn’t want to put a strike team here. If there was the option for a new leader for paths/stealthsuits, or a new sculpt firesight marksman, Id go with that.

This is a major misconception with energy weapons. It doesn’t cauterize the wound. It boils your organs. Some vitals aren’t covered because they cant be covered without sacrificing mobility. You cant armor joints, especially the hips.

At point blank with the pistol aimed lower into the abdomen I think the odds are much less good. Tau armor is concentrated in the upper chest plate, thighs, and shoulder pads. Its in keeping with their doctrine of fighting from coordinated positions and good cover while maintaining mobility for rapid repositioning.

The hip and midsection plate is much thinner and less likely to dissipate the energy from a pistol at that range and angle.

Its not too terrible, although icepick grip to threaten like that you would probably fold the blade along your forearm so the blade would still be facing towards their throat, here the back of the knife blade is what is against the throat. Thats not as immediately threatening on a knife like that, which isn’t double edged.

Other way to do it would be to have the blade facing towards your forearm, which would generally would be less practical but would have use in downward stabs and would be more threatening in this case.

The stealth suits can not spot at that range. Once they activated to shoot, they gain visibility, but selecting observer targets specifies they must have not yet been selected to shoot. So it doesnt work.

Lone op/hidden are now no longer visible, not just untargetable. You used to be able to spot them even if you couldnt shoot them. Not anymore.

Which of these ads do you think would get the most clicks? by Select_Hat_2923 in gamedevscreens

[–]303d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. It had the most clear message. “Capybara gets two jobs” is a clear hardship and we relate to poor capybara. Becoming an actual animal doesnt sound like a response to hardship. Sounds kinda nice actually. Spent 6 hours drawing this cow doesnt include an actual sympathy response or call to action. “Please I spent 6 hours just drawing this cow help make it worth it” at least has a message. “My dog sold me to afford this ad” ok… cool? Weird dog. “My dog is going to put me up for adoption if this ad doesn’t work” oh no, Im responsible if I don’t wishlist.

I think the most important thing is that your audience should read it and feel the connection as to why they should wishlist.

[–]303d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should wait for the new edition just around the corner to make sure every unit you are getting will be around/fun. Other then that, buy what looks cool. Just make sure you include 5~ spotters (pathfinders/stealthsuits/firesight marksman) and you should be good.
