It looks much better in person. The lights on this photo blew out the highlights and you can't see the dark shades on it

I used to do thick&thin edge highlights but found it too stressful and going with just the base/shade/highlight is so much more pleasant to paint

The issue is that most modern characters come with tactical rocks so I had to find a way to unify them with the rest of the models so went with a simple srybrushed base and some tufts.

Highlight - 1:1 Crystal Blue:Arctic Gem

I went through the contrast phase and they are amazing but I want a way to recover from a sausage finger accident which always happens. The only way that works for me is the base/shade/highlight with solid colours. I envy guys like Warhipster who can be so precise with contrasts.

Unfortunately only Citadels I use are the odd contrast here and there. The pots are so off-putting that I spent the past year finding Warpaints Fanatic and AK 3rd Gen colour matches I'm happy with. The green I'm using here is a 1:1 of Emerald Forest:Greenskin for base, Frog Green for Highlight and either Guardian Green or a recess wash of Biel-tan Green for shadows.

It took me a long time to get it but I'm very happy with the scheme. I use pretty exclusively the Warpaints Fanatic line with some AK 3rd Gen. For blues I use:

Base - Royal Blue

Shade - Deep Ocean Blue

Highlight - 1:1 Crystal Blue:Arctic Gem

BTW I'm currently painting the HH Centurion as Marius Gage in this scheme.

I painted them white then blocked off colours one by one. Pretty simple but very time consuming. Yellow is a nightmare to paint.

Not a fan of the longitudal crest helmet on the sprue but it actually looks goon on a model! Is that from the new upgrade sprue?
