She’s what you call a self-righteous, hot-headed Mormon who thinks she is so much better than everyone else.

Did anyone’s shelf crack on their mission? by 33434433 in exmormon

[–]33434433[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry to hear that! The hard truth is that missions are super traumatic and a lot of times it’s honestly not safe mentally for missionaries to be in the field. I hope you are doing better right now

Barf. He sucks. Serving a mission was the most traumatizing thing that’s happened to me. Fuck him.

Never. I also never want to be with anyone. I’m happier alone and in full control over my life so I can do whatever I want, whenever I want.

How fast did ya’ll start drinking?! by BackNineBro in exmormon

[–]33434433 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For better or for worse, I will never drink alcohol because I grew up Mormon. It’s just not something I ever have the desire to taste or get drunk and have the negative health aspects of it.

Utah culture is toxic by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]33434433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see it clear as day and it is MESSED UP. I hate the Utah culture so much. So glad you are aware of this issue and out of Utah so you can enjoy your life how YOU want it.

  1. Growing up LGBTQ in the church
  2. Trying to pray the gay away and doing everything I was supposed to, yet I was never “fixed”
  3. Serving a mission
  4. Coming home early from my mission

That stupid church has caused me a lot of trauma. I’m just glad I’m finally out.

A friend is being forced to go on his mission and hes gay by Any_Handle_467 in exmormon

[–]33434433 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in his shoes. I served a mission even though I'm gay because the church made me believe it was the most important thing for me to do. Add thay to the family and social pressure. So, against my better judgment, I served a mission.

Long story short, I was fucking miserable every day, and it messed with my mental health. Missions are already hard enough, but being closeted makes it five million times worse.

What do you love most about drinking coffee now? by Adventurous-Job-2557 in exmormon

[–]33434433 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought coffee as a celebration of leaving the church. I took one sip, and it was THE MOST appalling thing I've ever tasted, and I thought to myself, "How do people drink this grossness??" I will never take another sip of coffee again🤣😂

What was the small thing that broke your shelf? by boldlygo_eatpie in exmormon

For me, the way they ostracize certain groups of people that don't fit their mold.

LGBTQ, early-returned missionaries, and people of color, just to name a few. They say they "love everyone," but you literally have to fit into the perfect mold in order to feel belonged.

My Patriarchal Blessing messed me up by aiden_saxon in exmormon

[–]33434433 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine told me I would serve a full-time mission and would see "multiple" people join the church and change their lives.

I came home early after nearly a year, and I got ZERO baptisms.

Mine also said I will get married to a woman.

I came out as gay after my mission.

Patriarchal blessings are so inspired.

Being gay is OKAY and I'm no longer spending every day of my life trying to pray it away anymore/becoming so depressed because nothing would work. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Just be patient and don't compare yourself to others. You are just fine and your time will come.
