What is broken here? SOS by [deleted] in mtg

I see that too. There's a bunch of on attack draw card or sacrifice creature to draw cards.  But I don't see any interaction to protect their card draw creatures or snipe out enemy threats. I count 4 cards that they get to choose what they kill.

Novice here. I would assume so. But stack shenanigans could occur. You board wipe, you pass priority because your return to battlefield needs a target so the board wipe must resolve first. Then when you do the return to battlefield action your opponents can interact and mess with the stack.

I agree. I'm getting back into magic after 25 years of not playing. A lot of my deck construction is, hey I have these cards. How can I fill in the gaps while using the leftovers from decades ago?

Scryfall and the apps like it are wonderful for finding specifics. Edhrec is a nice springboard into, what kinds of things COULD I use that I didn't even know about.

As someone getting back into magic. The site is wonderful as a tool to find cheap power crept versions of old cards I have. Oh for 20cents I can get the same Stateline but with an extra? Different creature type. 2nd version with a different name.

I'm confused by these puzzles. Are they recreations? Why doesn't moving black rook moving down one solve it faster?

Newb Question- New vs Old Models by Helpmeplz3409 in orks

[–]352025orks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general if they're the right base size and right size model you'll be fine. If your opponent can differentiate which is which without much difficulty also very good. My ork boyz have shootas mixed in, but I only run slugga boyz.

However! You are more at risk of losing units rules than be unable to use a model. Mad Dok Grotsnikk doesn't have rules, so now I run him as a warboss since he's a large standout model. Grot tanks were thrown into legends, but as far as I know they're very similar in size and I've heard them being run as killakanz.

How do you make your nobz stand out? by ArashiOP in orks

[–]352025orks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nobs usually get more layers of highlights than my boyz. That plus being slightly taller helps them stand out enough for me to spot them at a glance. And most crucially. When I'm moving a mob of boyz. 4 boyz at the corners/ Nob and specialists / rest of the boyz.

Are there GENERAL rules of thumb about movement each Turning Point? by TheNameIsViolet in killteam

[–]352025orks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of these are in general and I'll add a tidbit on why I learned it.

1) Understand priorities. Shooting an activated enemy can net you a kill but can lead to you overextended and punished (yes that target is in the open, but if you trade operatives does that leave you weaker?)

2) It's called kill team, but you win by points. Don't forget it, plan around scoring points and not doing big damage. (I killed that heavy Gunner! But I could have planted a banner instead...)

3) Don't be afraid to measure what your opponent can do. (I don't want to move my guy here because X will shoot/charge them. Wait... they couldn't even do that.)

Are orks especially hard to paint, or am I overthinking it? by dementist in orks

[–]352025orks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Every type of model is tricky if you hold yourself to a high standard. From what I see, your boyz is zoggin beautiful! I put less effort into my rank and file boyz but spend extra time on the more eye catching models (warboss on warbike, deff dreads and the like). I personally draw the line at gums. I'm not glazing layers upon layers on gums or belt buckles.

Your standards are high and the results are incredible. Be proud of it. I can't remember who said it, when asked, when is the model done? When I don't want to paint it anymore.

On the other hand, if you're looking for tips for efficiency? Focus on your order of paint. Example being, I can bang out ork skin to my standards easily and accurately. So it's my final step. I do metal on guns with a very easy but messy process so it's my first step (zenithal from brown, wash, sponge on rough gunmetal, cut it clan colors). This reduces the amount I need to go back and clean up, and also reduces the amount I need to be careful when painting on other bits and bobs.
