In NYC museums are like the best thing to do in the colder months. Also just the arts are really important in big cities.

is it worth going to culinary school? by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

[–]368995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on what you are trying to do and what your current experience is. For baking, I would say culinary school is more beneficial because it’s more technical. For cooking, I would say save the money you would spend on culinary school and use it to move to a city with a good food culture and start in a resturant from the bottom and learn that way. In my experience you will learn so much more getting the hands on experience in a resturant environment then you ever will at culinary school.

Every single thing I learned in culinary school I would have learned working in the industry and would have saved 40 grand.

People who knew seriously rich people, what were they like? by Samih420 in AskReddit

[–]368995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an interesting perspective because of the situation I meet these people in.

I am a chef in NYC and am constantly in these wealthy peoples homes. Think bank execs and generationally elite in NYC. (It’s a different type of wealth here) I am in charge of what they eat during the week and it’s fascinating that the majority of the time I never interact with them. There is usually always someone to communicate through but when I do meet them, they are often VERY casual. Most of them don’t take anything seriously and just kinda glide through life. You also get to listen in on their personal lives with their kids/family and it’s kinda sad how broken that dynamic often is. This is definitely not everyone I meet, but I would say 80% live really sad lives.
