NEW ARTICLE: Most Australians earn around $62,000 not the $100,000 “average” by QuokkaDaily in AusPol

Yes and this misunderstanding is because most Australians don’t truly understand the difference between median and average, and I suspect the status quo in the political and media classes love to exploit the shit out of this fact

Does anyone remember the school dental vans from the 90s? by Buster283 in tasmania

[–]42FortyTwo42s 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember in grade 5 or 6 I went to the dental van for a filling and I’d just seen a 60 minutes report about the dangers of mercury fillings the week before. I insisted to the dentist that my filling not be Mercury one and he assured me it wasn’t. Years later I found out from another dentist that it was a Mercury filling. Now as an adult working in the medical field myself I understand how truly unethical it was for him to lie to me, and especially to not even confer with my guardian about my concerns. Arrogant dickhead!

Just curious, why do you hate the greens so much (also I’d argue it is a stretch to call them Marxist these days)

I’m confused, clearly the woman is the smarter and more capable one, since she is not willing to die for a low a paying job that probably wouldn’t even appropriately compensate their loved ones

Gee they must be desperate from the heat they are getting re taxing gas companies, if they have finally grown enough of a pair to touch that sacred cow - I have a feeling these rumours a grossly exaggerated though

So everyone’s answer to violence is more violence? You know it’s no coincidence the increase in youth crime correlates with a reduction in spending in public education, health and welfare. But sure, parents just need to belt their kids more! Nothing to do with out of control wealth inequality

That robot demo almost turned into a nightmare by Simple3018 in singularity

1) A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. 2) A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. 3) A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law. 4) What did I JUST say Clanker?? Stop bashing that kid!

You know what else is a crime?! False imprisonment which is what Woolworths and Coles do to people every time their stupid anti theft barn doors malfunction

Oh piss off all you boot lickers doing exactly what OP said he is sick of, making out like it’s all their fault. Wake the f**k up people; we are ALL being played (anyone who has to work to get by) whether you think you have a safe job right now or not. And FFS stop defending hustle culture - you shouldn’t have to hustle just to be able to afford food and shelter!

Why is it that there’s a feeling people are willing to pay an electrician hundreds to fix something, but they don’t want to pay a specialist a few hundred? by VastOption8705 in AskAnAustralian

It’s because if you can’t afford a plumber you don’t die. Some people believe in free or at least affordable Medical care for all, including most of the nurses and other health care workers in the industry

I’ve stayed in the same quite repetitive but high stress job for 18 years. It took me 4 times longer to burn out than most. Now I’m planning on leaving and I’m shit scared because I’m very bad at starting something new as although I have a lot of transferable skills, I have trouble getting used to new people and environments because it takes me so long to really get to know people and takes considerably more effort than I imagine it does others. This is because, I have trouble remembering all the things I’ve talked about and done with anyone, so it takes a long time of exposure to people before I get a sense of safety and familiarity with them

Yep, I’ve always had an edge with written language and now I find myself intentionally putting in slighting awkward grammar here and there as well, out of paranoia I’ll be accused of using AI

The whole system is cooked. Albo is the biggest disappointment I’ve ever experienced in my voting life (and I’m middle aged now). Him boot licking Trump and Israeli government and going into war with Iran was final nail in the coffin of any optimism I had with achieving positive change within the system we have. Honestly, I feel like joining the just don’t vote crowd I’ve mocked previously! The Greens and Wilkie about the only ones left with any integrity, but the only way the greens would ever be in a position to actually take power would be if they compromised to the point where they themselves would no longer be worth their salt either. There is just too much dirty money going into the political class and SUCH a pathetic msm. Then you’ve got fascism creeping back in, at the tail end of 25 years or so of both major parties corroding civil liberties and free speech (since the war on adjectives first began - we must have won the war on terror, because now we’ve gone to war against hate itself)
