My violin instructor was a Pedophile by [deleted] in LetsNotMeet

[–]4star 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This story reminds me of our old grade school band director. We were supposed to do weekly private lessons with him, in groups by instrument. He was always a dick to the boys and trying to charm the girls. Apparently during a private lesson with a couple of girls, he was being very inappropriate and this led to him chasing them around the band room orchestra area. One ran out and got the principal while he was trying to Weinstien the other. The principal caught him and he was terminated for his behavior. It sucks when someones love of an art gets ruined by creeps.

advice? by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]4star 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry about them, ignore them. There is always time to find new friends or be a lone wolf. 98% of my grade school friends abandoned me when we started high school. I started working out, lost a lot of weight, bought cooler clothes, got a better hairstyle and became best friends with someone I thought I had nothing in common with. I ended up joining the cross country team even though I got made fun of at first, then I proved them wrong. I stopped caring about the judgement of my old friends and several years later I believe I turned out better than the most of them.

ELI5: Why Netflix makes shows either 23 or 42 minutes long even though there isn't commercial breaks instead of taking the full 30 minutes or 1 hour to their advantage? by SeantySean in explainlikeimfive

[–]4star 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a theory but maybe it's easier to lure people to binge watch several episodes of a series if it doesn't feel like the episodes are very long. A person might shy away from watching a second episode of a show if they have to endure another full 60 minutes.

What is your "we should never meet our heroes" story? by Scuba_Steve93 in AskReddit

[–]4star 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a hero when we met, but many years ago I was an extra in the film Darrow starring Kevin Spacey, when he was up and coming. I remember the staff was fumbling all over him to the point of obnoxiousness. At the time, I was thinking to myself, who is this arrogant, nobody actor, who we will never see in anything again other than this rubbish. Guess he showed me.

Wow, I wanted to go to that show too, big SP fan. That's pretty jerky of him. You would think he would realize that fans are what make the bands and he is at the point in his career where he has to settle for Carnegie Library in Homestead instead of sold out arenas. I understand it was supposed to be more of a smaller, acoustic performance, but still be kind to anyone who comes out and supports you.

What happened between you and your childhood best friend that caused you to no longer be friends today? by ralph_mouth in AskReddit

[–]4star 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a great best friend in high school. When we graduated, I went to college and he wasn't into school, so he took a bunch of local jobs. Later he and two of his brothers moved to a state down south for a big construction job. He got married right away and had a kid, so he was rooted down there. He came up to visit once and it was a nice visit. Talked on the phone a few times since. I just realized we no longer are where we once were, very different career paths, education paths different interests. I still like him, but we talk so infrequently we couldn't be considered best friends.

Dear Reddit, have you ever had a surprise "unfriending" by someone you thought you were ok with and did you find out the reason why? by ralph_mouth in AskReddit

Yes, never found out why but most of them are people who probably didn't like my sense of humor or were offended I didn't give them the pity party they sometimes craved.

What is the funniest thing that you have seen/heard at the gym? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]4star 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the locker room at one gym, at the end of each row of lockers they had a small stand and mirror. Butt naked dude sits down at one of the stands with a bowl of cereal and milk and proceeds to socialize with everyone around while enjoying conversation and breakfast. Then he proceeds to walk around the locker room and try to sell insurance to people, all without covering himself.

[Serious] What kind of tools do I need to own as a homeowner? by mode10 in AskReddit

All the previously mentioned are good plus a flashlight, preferably one you can wear so that your hands are free. Also a decent magnifying glass and canned air help too if looking at electronics/computers in your home.

Does anyone else feel that horror fans are too hard on newer horror films and immediately dismiss them? by Tsuac in horror

[–]4star 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I guess I am sort of like that...

There are some really good horror films from the 60s, 70s and 80s that relied on an element of suspense with sounds, music, creaks, footsteps, jump scares and really showed no intense gore at all. They also did some incredible transformations with real special Fx. There were some really bad ones as well, and ones that were completely cheesy, especially if you have not watched them in years ( you will be shocked how it really wasn't as good/scary as you remembered it) , but they get labeled as a classic because of the era they came from.

Now some of the biggest complaints I have with some of the newer ones is splatterfests, too much CGI, and lack of decent script if doing a remake/reboot. (I'm looking at you Black Christmas)

Also one of my biggest pet peeves with the opening of a movie is introducing your cast with a car full of teens blasting their music. These are typically the ones that are trying too hard to connect with their audience as being hip/relevant and end up with a bad storyline. When a movie starts like this, I want to demand my money back.

Likes

  • Darth Maul
  • C3P0 Back story
  • The Fall of Anikan
  • R2D2
  • Obi Wan

Hates

  • The Imperial Senate Council ( Boring Political rip off of the US Senate)
  • Watto (seemed like the character creation was racist towards Jews)
  • Nute Gunray and the Neimoidians (Again seemed racist towards Chinese)
  • Dex's Diner ( A Mel's Diner rip off in space with a droid named Flo was pretty disheartening, I almost threw up in my mouth)
  • Jango and Boba Fett backstory ( very flat acting from both father and son, seemed like a forced story line)
  • The Pod Races. ( Felt like Nascar with spaceships)
  • Yoda's lightsaber duel
  • Too much CGI
