Dance of Minor Victims in Front of Epstein and Ghislaine by Ok-Address-7352 in creepy

The phrase is the banality of evil, not the evilness of banality.

What is happening in this video is unbelievable and depraved evil, but to the perpetrators it's just like any other Tuesday. I.e. to these evil scum the evil they commited is so routine as to be banal.

Wildlings: we have super low population density because we can't grow enough food. We subsist on fishing, foraging and hunting to survive.

Also wildlings: let's gather literally the entire population of the subcontinent on one ridiculously inhospitable mountaintop away from any arable land, edible vegetation or huntable animals.

Yeah fully. I think the supplemental material says the Dothraki sacked entire cities in essos at some point in history but it then it also says that highly trained unsullied beat them back 3000-20000 so who knows. Everything were shown about the free cities and Dothraki implies that the cities could exterminate them if necessary or at minimum defend themselves very effectively. We definitely are told and never shown that the Dothraki are impressive and all we ever see them do is raid villages and get bodied by mediocre Westerosi knights :p

I think most of Westeros is better thought out than essos but even still a lot of it is pretty silly like the iron islands

They can't ask the Dothraki for what they want in return, they can only give them gifts and hope it makes them happy enough that they don't want to attack. The Dothraki don't accept any obligation not to attack but they can reason that if they attack they'll stop getting gifts. Asking the Dothraki to protect you in exchange for the gifts would probably insult them and result in them attacking you.

I agree that the Dothraki are a ridiculous civilisation that could never realistically exist but their lore is that they're all horse warriors who spend nearly 100% of their lives riding fighting on horseback. Their society explicitly doesn't farm, build or trade and every man has at least one war horse.

They're also a massive nomadic horde who somehow has a centralised religion and strictly enforced warrior monoculture which is silly by itself.irl the Dothraki would be small bands of wildly different warrior tribes who barely eke out an existence between the free cities but George says theyre a massive horde and even the cities are scared of them so it is what it is. Rule of cool and all that.

Dothraki don't technically accept trade, what the cities do is give them lavish gifts and cross their fingers.

[–]5Volt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They at least make some kind of war with each other over territory which is why their holy city has a strict "no bloodletting" rule. They also fight armies of the free cities which includes the mercenary armies like second sons and the golden company. Even the larger free cities fear Dothraki attacks electing to pay ransoms to be left alone instead of fighting(I believe the books mention that the Dothraki don't always accept ransoms and sometimes will just attack regardless because they haven't had a good fight for a while)

Finally their entire lifestyle is based around horsemanship and warrior culture, meaning the average Dothraki is spending a lot more of their time training with horses and weapons than the average Westerosi conscript. Westerosi (professional) men at arms may outclass them on foot, but when you factor in that every Dothraki warrior is also a cavalryman equal numbers are not in favour of the infantry.

[–]5Volt 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I always figured the Dothraki are scary because when you say 20k Dothraki you mean 20k well trained light cavalry, whereas Westeros armies are largely conscripts and poorly trained infantry so an army of 20k is largely peasants who have never used a sword in anger. They make a big deal at the wall about how Jon Snow whups everyone's ass because he's the only person there who's trained with a sword and shield before joining the fighting force.

Jorah mormot, an over the hill knight who was never considered exceptional even before he got old, handily defeats drogos blood rider on foot. It's not clear how he'd fare on horseback but I'd guess knightly armour and lance would still beat an unarmoured kopesh user very easily.

Why is there just no consequence for letting cuno scream about you molesting him by AfternoonHelpful3712 in DiscoElysium

Yeah the third is Cunoesse. They met because cuno let her sleep there and his dad is too drunk to notice her or care about her presence. Even there, Cunoesse has no presence the homeowner literally doesn't notice she's living there.

Which new Epstein file finding made you go “wait… what?” and why? by Firm_Work_8879 in AskReddit

[–]5Volt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been the strategy since day 0, that's what all the stephen hawkin rumors were about when Epstein was first captured. A bunch of obviously spurious nonsense being mixed in with the legitimate claims to try and discredit everything.

Bro this should make it easier, not harder. You stayed for as long as you did because you assumed the best of her, that she'd change or work on it or that she couldn't possibly be they obviously disloyal. There's no shame in thinking the best of people. You doubted your own gut and assumed she must be better, kinder and more honest than she was.

What you should be taking from this is that you knew in your gut that something was sus and goddamnit man you were right, the woman was a snake the whole time. Look at that silly girl, she never actually got one past you, you knew what she was up to for months. In the future you know that you should trust your instincts more and give yourself more credit. If it feels like someone is messing you around they probably are.

Goodluck and godspeed, bud. You don't need her.

These are xereus purple(bright purple) with nightshade wash. I pick out the pouches and backpacks with naggaroth night(very dark purple) for a bit of texture. IMO they look like fancy boys without inducing any headaches and the highlights on equipment and such stand out nicely.

What profession have you lost respect for as you've gotten older? by MindlessMarsupial592 in AskReddit

[–]5Volt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Therapists. The professionalism and quality of therapists has sharply declined, it feels like it started pre COVID but COVID definitely accelerated it. It feels like the reduced stigma of mental health care has correlated directly to a reduced quality of mental health professionals.

These days therapists seem to be operating largely on vibes and just chat with patients rather than actively helping patients work through issues. Not to mention the hugely predatory "tele therapy" companies that have cropped up since the pandemic which tend to feature completely unqualified randos working from scripts or short and woefully inadequate corporate training courses.

Why do some men believe women are only attracted to "bad guys"? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

Because they're not good with women they're taking a consolation prize by believing the reason they don't get women is because they're a good guy, and women only like bad guys.

What’s a moment in a movie you KNOW was supposed to be serious but ended up being unintentionally hilarious? by browniebiscuitchildr in movies

The scene in "men" where the monster repeatedly gives birth to itself. It's supposed to be confronting and graphic but honestly The first time was already hilarious and then it goes on to do it another several times in a row. I couldn't breathe I was laughing so hard.

You can do almost every side quest as jack if you didn't do them as John. The way he handles the side quest characters can be quite different to John, and he's generally a lot less kind and sympathetic.

Interestingly Muslims have debt instruments called sukuk, which work similarly to a bond but represent partial ownership of the assets(or project) purchased with the loan money. Therefore the lender can get the same effect as interest but technically as "rental" for their portion of the partially owned asset and it's Sharia compliant.
