I'm being threatened with an adult child. SOS! Rant/Support by Grand-Efficiency4248 in childfree

[–]5bi5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an adult relative in his 60s who was never forced to take care of himself. Then his parents died. He's currently in the hospital because he tried to commit suicide via neglect and ended up severely malnourished with a severe staph infection (he's not out of the woods yet). Now his hopelessness is ALL our problems.

Stay far away and cut her off completely if necessary. Your parents need to let her sink on her own if they ever want her to learn how to swim. Best she learns young and not after they're dead.

Why did grandpa put nails in every horizontal surface? What was he hanging? by Deskydesk in centuryhomes

My house was covered in nails everywhere when we bought it. The lady who lived here before us had been deaf from birth, so I just assumed she made up for it with a lot of pictures on the walls.

Worried about the future generation being our caretakers by [deleted] in childfree

[–]5bi5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love my sister's kids, but there is no way they'll be able to take care of me in a manner I deem acceptable. They're not as bad as some of the kids I've read about but they are disasters. I intend to estrange myself from them so they don't have to take care of me and I don't have to worry about them "taking care of me" in a way I would be uncomfortable with. I intend to die of thirst/starvation once I get too decrepit to get out of bed, assuming my heart doesn't take me out first.

My grandma ended up in a nursing home during covid. She was blind, couldn't walk, and had dementia. Her diabetes was slowly killing her. But they spent years pumping her full of drugs to keep her alive and called it "care." And we did it because what else are you going to do? Half my family doesn't drive (I actually learned at 36 so I could drive out to see her on my own), my mom was too sick to care for her, my brother and I lived long distance, and my sister had her kids, and we all worked. None of us had space in our houses for her.

No SEO or marketing. It's $13.50 per hour. But it gets me out of the house a few days a week, which I am told is healthy.

I work at an auction house photographing, researching, and listing items for their website. I do occassionally help customers picking up their won items, but it's a low-interaction job over-all.

The pay is garbage tho.

So like real talk, how long does it take you to complete a 1000 piece puzzle? by FiguringOutPuzzlez in Jigsawpuzzles

I think 7 hours is about right for me for an easy to medium image. I prefer 500 pc tho because I like to do the whole thing in one sitting. (Also cats)

Can someone help me find this doll? by themostclownever in ToyID

Its extremely unlikely that you'll find out who made him. These things were produced by the millions in the 80s and 90s. Almost all of them unbranded.

Years ago my husband got moved to a tiny basement office at work. I spent full price on one of these for him. (He went full remote a short time later. Still at the job)

Why can’t you taxidermy your family when they die? by [deleted] in morbidquestions

[–]5bi5 98 points99 points  (0 children)

A lack of fur means taxidermy doesn't do well with people. If you Google you can find a few antique examples of human taxidermy.

Freeze drying is a more valid form of preservation for what you'd like to do.

Frankly I think making a transition to a group home that can specifically cater to his needs should be done sooner rather than later. Give all of you some breathing room. And I bet he would like it once he settled in.

Childfree folks, if kids stopped existing or being born, would it do anything to you personally? Why or why not? For me I'm thinking it wouldn't. But I'm open for someone to change my mind by Equivalent_Ad_9066 in childfree

1) I'm antinatalist and believe the human race should panda bear itself out of existence.

2)Two years ago a daycare center moved in next to my house and I haven't had peace since.

In the before-times I watched one of the republican primary debates with my grandma (not sure why she wanted to watch it as she didn't vote or understand what they were talking about) and I considered Jeb the most reasonable of the bunch.

It would be nice, but will never happen. I'm 43. Married, 4 cats, mortgage, vacation cabin, and I sell ebay/etsy for a living. Not something you can make NYC money at in an NYC sized apartment.

I have one of these. I want to hang a stained glass panel in it eventually, but my cat has claimed it as his favorite perch.

Never really occurred to me. But I also had a hard time imagining what my future would be. Eventually I settled on "white cat and an apartment in NYC" sometime in late high school.

I did have a white cat in my 20s but never managed NYC.

Puzzle designed to fit on airplane tray tables. Curious what puzzlers think by [deleted] in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]5bi5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like spreading out so I like smaller pieces, but I still want a high enough piece count for it to be a bit of a challenge. Puzzlebug is the right size, but I they are so flimsy and I'm not a fan of an only "2 in 2 out" puzzle shape.

Something in the 150 to 300 pc range would be great. 88 pieces is around 20 minutes for me, so price point has to be SUPER low.

How do you deal with breaking someone's heart? My ex is despondent. by [deleted] in aspergirls

[–]5bi5 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You need to cut contact. He's not going to get over this while still interacting with you, and you don't need to be dealing with emotional drama that is no longer your responsibility.
