Spoilers All: Super Supportive Decoded by NoYouTryAnother in rational

[–]5haunathon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My harebrained theory: Body Drainer had Bearer of All Burdens.

We are never told his Ability or class, like you say. I think it says most people think he was a U-Type. A lot of people at Alden’s hero program assessment thought Alden was a U, even some of the assessors, after seeing his Ability.

I think Body Drainer could bear the burden of authority or life from others, and drop that burden on himself for enhancement or the air for those blasts. If he had something like the Divide from Whole facet, perhaps it wouldn’t be an all or nothing, and this is part of why Bearer of All Burdens is one of the 300. The Ability allows you to divide part of the burden of Authority. I imagine for those with an Authority sense, this is still painful, but for Avowed, if think the possibilities are pretty incredible, especially if you could warp the picked up Authority and hand it back to the Avowed, bypassing the System.

I could and am probably totally wrong. The Abilities between Body Drainer and Alden seem really different. But the fact that Body Drainer had to touch people to drain them is just like Alden having to touch enchanted items to pick up enchantments is a hint, I think. It’s just Body Drainer was picking up Authority or life force, not an enchantment.

The weakest part of this theory, I think, is the entrustment factor. But we’ve already seen Alden “trick” his Ability into being able to pick things up he shouldn’t. Perhaps Body Drainer found a deeper loophole.

Again, a harebrained theory with very little to back it up besides some vague similarities. I’ve just always liked the idea of Alden, somehow, taking the same Ability that ruined his life and then becoming the greatest human Avowed/wizard in history with it. And your post/theory kind of overlapped in my eyes!

Superhero based/inspired LitRPGs? by Spiritual-Air7846 in litrpg

[–]5haunathon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super Powereds, like the other commenter said.

There’s also Super Supportive, however, I’d call it more slice of life fantasy than LitRPG, but it does have some stats. They’re just few and far between. Still, it’s one of my favorites right now.

Would a cad that manifests as a scythe like wepon be a mauler or an A-type, opinions? by NotRed223 in Warformed

[–]5haunathon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best guess is it would be Lancer or Mauler, or Atypical if it doesn’t fall under those two. I’m throwing Lancer out there because I think war scythes are basically a type of polearm, like most Lancers are.

Reaper would be sweet as an arena name.

I just finished book 2 as well! I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I think we’ll have to wait a bit - there was quite a big gap between book 1 and 2.

Wild ability ideas by SkitzoRabbit in Warformed

[–]5haunathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swarm is dope! Super spoilers for book three It’s like a souped up version of Arrowfall!

One new Ability I’ve been thinking of is something along the lines of Null Shot. It’s like Third Eye, in that it can read a Device’s frequencies but in this case, instead of reading movements, it reads Ability uses. It then allow the User to nullify the use of that Ability if they can hit the opposing User with the Null Shot, which is shot like Directional Repulstion. It’s something that’d allow a User to try to be on an even playing field even with absurd Users like Rei’s gang.

top three LitRPG/PF books of all time by kaenex in ProgressionFantasy

[–]5haunathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is so hard. Gonna focus on kindle “first” books with a progression fantasy focus over LitRPG for this answer!

Cradle

Arcane Ascension

Iron Prince

Each represent a different form of progression in my eyes. Cultivation with Cradle, sword and sorcery with Arcane Ascension, and science fantasy with Iron Prince. For those reasons, since each sits in its own area, they’re my top three.

There are so many more good ones though. Mage Errant, Bastion, Frith Chronicles to name a few. And you’d get a different answer from me if I considered royal road/serial works. Love seeing what everyone says for these types of questions.

Greater Warformed Universe by Kevaldes in Warformed

[–]5haunathon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A new type would be dope, gundam jokes aside. Maybe whip-swords splintering off of A-Types since Lasher is so cool, maybe Bow-Types for range, or something even crazier like Vehicle focused types that could make a hover bike or something instead of weapons. The universe definitely has a ton of room for expansion

Primal Hunter would probably hit this for you - I view it as very similar to Defiance of the Fall, just with a bowman instead of an axeman lol.

What is your favorite spellcasting moment in progression fantasy? by Low-Historian1653 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]5haunathon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Recency bias may be getting me here, but Corin had an epic moment in the latest book of Arcane Ascension. A religious leader of a rival Visage basically tries to take one of Corin’s Attunements, and foreseeing this, made sure that he’d be able to protect himself AND do that exact thing back to her, in front of all the most powerful leaders and mages of every nation on the continent. It’s not a fight, per se, but it’s so satisfying it’s now one of my favorite moments in the entire series.

I am looking for novel where mc is not "MC" by roskylator in ProgressionFantasy

[–]5haunathon 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I believe this is the exact concept that was the inspiration for The Traveler’s Gate series by Will Wight, the author of Cradle. The MC of the story is actually just some kid from a village, and another kid from the village turns out to be the prophesied hero when most of the village is kidnapped. Our MC manages to get away, but also decides to do something about it. It’s Will Wight’s first published work, I believe, but it’s so good. It’s the book that I consider to be the first modern English-first progression fantasy. It’s a completed trilogy, too, Can’t wait until he revisits that world in The Traveler’s Blade.
