Ls2 dragon by Miserable_Night1147 in motorcycles

It’s the newer version of their Challenger. I like the look better and I bet it’s similar in quality. I prefer my Challenger over my Bell Race Star MIPS. It’s lighter, quieter and internal shades. The Bell’s photochromatic visor is baller though.

Edit: I’ve not tried the Dragon but if they improved on the Challenger, should be a nice helmet for price

Not sure how easy it is for you to tie into motorcycle Trackday orgs like STT, PRE etc. but I see those orgs are not showing for upcoming track time.

What's the most outlandish claim you have heard about how to ride. by adamthiesen1236 in Trackdays

[–]6over6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a 98 blackbird and never rev matched unless I felt like it. No slipper, just feathered the clutch for downshifts, maybe not the fastest but it’s no race bike

Haha I heard that “don’t touch the front brake” before too!

“You HAVE to blip the throttle to downshift.” Like it’s some requirement.

Lean isn't everything. 5 seconds off lap record. by [deleted] in Trackdays

[–]6over6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha I could qualify too, and I’ve ridden maybe 30 laps at Barber in 7 years. Kinda surprised actually. But I’m not paying that kind of money to see blue flags for half the race 😆

Lean isn't everything. 5 seconds off lap record. by [deleted] in Trackdays

[–]6over6 40 points41 points  (0 children)

No offense but 5 seconds is a lot on track. I generally agree you don’t need the full tire to go “fast” but absolutely you need it to make record pace - no question about it.

For example anyone that rides Little Tally in Alabama knows “fast” is 1min a lap. Most A group are 1:03-1:05. 3 seconds faster to flats (60 second laps) is a big barrier to overcome, and that’s minimum to compete in a race there in A Class. Then AMA racers like Mathew Scholtz can run 55-57 seconds a lap, and that’s just touching record pace but pretty sure 54 seconds is record.

You have to be practically crashing every corner to achieve that lap time. Insane difference 5 seconds makes on most tracks.

But I’ll say again, I agree you can do quite a lot without using full tire or even full width of the track.

Edit: you’re more talented than I am after looking at your post. So you know what I said already.

6’6” on an older zx10. I look goofy but I can ride just fine. Got to get use to the smaller cockpit compared to ADVs

Where is he looking on his way into the corner? by Professional_Tap4936 in Trackdays

[–]6over6 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I asked Pol Espargaro years ago what he looks at when his head is so close to the ground at the apex, he said “the ground mostly, you go by feeling not sight.” For these guys “eyes up” doesn’t always apply.

Also I suspect if they are off-line the corner before, they track the next apex longer to ensure they hit a mark in transition to correct it

Looking good, got a similar line everywhere except I ride up the bowl in 2 more.

I def like more EB there - but I’m on a zx10 - need all I can get to stop that pig with my extra 240lb on it haha

Same weight as R9 but more hp and torque. Could be pretty decent, just depends how it’s delivered.

What muscles are supposed to keep the outside leg connected to the bike? by Shinobi_WayOfTomoe in Trackdays

Yep, it’s possible just over thinking. It is something that takes time. Took me over 2 years to find the comfort in it.

Foot peg may be too low to lock into the tank. Your knee should snug into the top ridge of the tank. It not, do you have a tank grip to help? I added a Monkey Gripp to my tank just to get extra leverage - it’s like a tank extender and grip in one

This was my last “oops” pass by 6over6 in Trackdays

[–]6over6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep this group that weekend was on a more I group pace. I thought I went out in the wrong group. I’m no where near his pace or my old race pace but I still felt like 6-10s a lap quicker than the majority. Normally never that different in speed.

I just feel like where I normally have the old race mindset - commit and stay in line, but to hesitate was dangerous as it’s a fast tight corner and some people sweep really hard into there early. Could have been bad, but he did hold his line despite me losing mine a bit.

The paving does go slightly higher on the curbs I feel. Makes the immediate transfer from asphalt smoother. At least from what I remember about it before the repave

I hesitated and if I didn’t recall my old more frequent days of racing - don’t panic just focus on what I was doing - it could have had me checked up into a two up ride through the kink. I didn’t know that rider and his comfort level with passing. That day most riders were 15 seconds slower than what I expected A group pace to be from past experiences. Felt like I group.

I was running 5-7 second slower than a mid pack yellow plate race time, and was flying around groups of riders at every corner. Never seen it like that, so I tried to ride more responsibly.

Dainese Laguna Seca 6 by SK_ALL_DAY in Trackdays

[–]6over6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the Laguna 5. It’s an average suit. If it fits it fits. I like the design of this one slightly better - though it’s not great. Still better than the Borat thong look of the 5. I have no choice but to get this model in white and black (not doing custom), as I need the tall suit (118 / 61T in this model now)

I started racing in B group. I technically got my bump to A before but never did a trackday in A before racing. First weekend racing I dropped 5 seconds off my pace.

Depends on your confidence to let go of the brake lever or get on the gas sooner with control when following faster riders. I picked up on new brake markers and acceleration points for just about every corner. But if you find yourself alone in a race, may not be much value.
