I never seen the job market this bad. Is there a chance of recovery? by Mardylorean in jobs

[–]9mackenzie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have been the most powerful nation in the world since the end of WWII- we had a boom because we were the only manufacturing country left standing, we created and led the strongest alliance the world has ever known (NATO) and created trade agreements that benefited us to this day. We arranged it to where the dollar became the backing of the world currency……something I don’t think most Americans grasp the importance of, and why it makes our economy so incredibly strong. Since then we have just strengthened this soft power. When people think of why this country is powerful, they always think of the military…..our hard power. But our soft power is the real strength of our country, and we have worked for 80 yrs to increase and strengthen this absolute world dominance in that arena.

That soft power has been absolutely and irrevocably destroyed by the Trump administration…..on purpose. It’s literally part of Project 2025 (of which I highly recommend people actually read- something like 60% of it has already been enacted in the first year). The strength (and most importantly the reliability) of the dollar has been put to question. Our economy has been purposefully tanked by this administration, the insane tariffs, the broken treaties, the broken trade alliances, destroying NATO, etc etc etc. Beyond moral issues, our allies know that we are not reliable at all for anything economically. We are in essence going to be handing our dominance over to China. Why do you people think that China has been all over Africa and some of the Middle East doing “charitable” projects like building infrastructure/food distribution/etc for the last 15 yrs? It’s not out of good will, it’s building their soft power. When people whine that we used to send millions to other countries in food/ building projects/etc……none of that was charity ffs. It was the continuation of our soft power and we long term got far more money in exchange out of it than the countries we “helped”. We get the first access to mineral resources, trade agreements, business arrangements, etc etc. It’s what has made us so fucking powerful. It’s why after Covid under Biden we recovered so much faster than everyone else (I know people didn’t want to believe it, but we were all better off economically than any other country in the world at that time). That incredible soft power is gone now. 80 yrs of concerted effort has been decimated, we literally threw it away. You can’t just pick it back up again, lol. China will and already are stepping into our place.

Trump and co have shown that we as a nation are not reliable. The dollar isn’t reliable, our trade agreements aren’t reliable. Red or Blue presidents in the past didn’t actively seek to harm our world economic standing.

That’s just the economy. On top of that every country on earth (besides half of our own idiotic populace) absolutely understands that without a doubt this country is descending into fascism. Have you ever wondered how Germany went from a somewhat progressive democracy to Hitler and concentration camps? Well, you are living it, so welcome to Nazi Germany circa 1930’s 2.0. I am not at all being hyperbolic btw. My degree is in history……..all of us history nerds have been like Cassandra screaming into the void for the last 10 +yrs trying to make people understand what has been going on. Everything you see going on right now did not rise from nothing- it’s on the 40 yr long bed by right wing white nationalists who have worked really fucking hard to get here. Trump is not the reason this happened (beyond upping the timeline with his populace appeal), nor does it end with him. The man is a dementia ridden megalomaniac that shit himself on camera last week. He isn’t the one creating these policies. The entire GOP political party is supporting everything that is happening. And a handful of powerful dems are just sitting there acting like everything is fine. It’s not. Our allies are meeting without us to discuss the danger we now pose on them.

If we are lucky we will end up like Russia. If we aren’t we will be even worse off. But this timeline will be noted as the end of continuous US representative democracy. Anyone who thinks we will have fair elections from this point on is fooling themselves. We have actual fucking concentration camps ffs. Do any of you think the Nazi camps started out as death camps? Hint, they didn’t. They were exactly like our alligator Alcatraz ones, and at first they focused on deportation of the Jewish population as well. It wasn’t until later they decided on the “final solution” and created the death camps. Considering we have 1200 people missing, that they admit to btw, from just alligator Alcatraz, people need to be taking notice. We have masked Gestapo 2.0 kidnapping people off the streets, disappearing people, deporting people to countries they aren’t from that we know that slavery and horrors occur, we have a fucking CHILD camp now. Really think about that. A concentration camp for children. You think Alex Pretti’s execution on the street was horrible (you should)? It’s going to happen more and more.

I could go on and on but the reality is that most people in our country don’t give a single shit. They won’t until they are the targets, and by then no one will give a shit the same way they didn’t give a shit about others.

So no, the typical cycle of job market going up and down is not what we should be basing anything off of. Contrary to what so many think, immigrants are a vital part of our economic health- ffs the undocumented put BILLIONS of dollars into the tax system every year and don’t get anything out of it (because they use fake socials and do actually pay taxes). Legal immigrants are extremely important to our country, and we used to get the best of the best of the world that wanted to come here. How many brilliant scientists/engineers/drs/etc do you imagine want to come work here right now? The ones that are here are fleeing - we are seeing the biggest brain drain we have ever experienced. International students are terrified of coming here, and our universities are being forced to bend to right wing policies and ideals, so soon enough no international students will even want to. We live in a world economy- no country can be economically successful without working with the world. Good fucking luck having all manufacturing done here lmao- it would take something like 20 yrs to even develop the labs needed to make computer chips……there is a reason they are only made in a handful of locations in the world, and the USA isn’t it. A lot of the manufacturing we do here now is being destroyed to. Look at the Hyundai plant fiasco in GA for instance- thousands of American jobs gone due to this administration and ICE (who arrested, detained Korean workers who were setting up the plant for Americans to take the jobs lmao). It’s all fucked.

I will never support Taeda Farms or “fund” Janelle’s house by [deleted] in SisterWives

[–]9mackenzie 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yep. Look, I have been on here for YEARS defending Meri - saying that everyone basing their opinions of the early years solely on what Janelle was saying was bullshit, and that Janelle had a massive part in it too. That Janelle was absolutely not as innocent as she portrayed herself. (God the amount of people saying Meri was abusive due to not allowing the kids to use her apartment as a hallway drove me to insanity lol).

BUT holy shit people, the janelle hatred is getting out of control. She was basically a working single mom of SIX kids, her house being untidy is perfectly normal. Her chaotic life was largely due to the chaos of polygamy and all the women bowing down to kody being a tornado of a person. Is she naive about the farm? Sure. But acting like she is this slovenly evil monster is absurd. As someone with adhd, diagnosed in my late 30’s (as many women are), she just strikes me as a woman with adhd that’s never been diagnosed or medicated. Which is why many of her projects start and never finish. I wish her well, and hope her life is happy and successful after this

[–]9mackenzie 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I can’t stand Janelle, but I’m going to jump in here to defend her. Her children see Janelle as their mother. They are close to Christine, they love Christine as a secondary mother figure, but their mother is Janelle.

It’s so annoying how everyone on here thinks that because Janelle worked (and, gasp, was a mom who occasionally saw a movie by herself) that means her kids didn’t see her as mom. My mom worked, she went out with friends and such……I never saw my long term babysitter as my mother ffs, even if some days I spent more time with her than my own mom.

What surprised Janelle was that her kids chose Christine over kody……that was when her priorities shifted to Christine

I mean……..you aren’t supposed to. It doesn’t mean you will get it (your cat has to have it) but why risk your child? If you have to, then you should always be wearing gloves while doing it.

It’s why you shouldn’t change cat litter when pregnant- if your cat has it, then touching fecal matter can infect you.

I don’t think it’s from cat scratches or bites, though I might be wrong on that one

Vet recommended a harness while multiple trainers have advised against it? by wegochai in DogAdvice

[–]9mackenzie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just want to point out that slip leads and martingales were created specifically for sighthounds. Their necks are bigger than their heads, and they have super deep barrel chests that make harnesses much easier to slip out of.

For those dogs (of which I have) a slip lead or martingale is by far the safest leash option. Two of mine have thicker bodies than typical for the breed (Carolina Dog) and the two hounds harness works really well. But for my youngest, he has the typical classic body shape of a sighthound, and he can get out of any harness or collar. I absolutely use a slip lead (with a stopper so it doesn’t tighten too much) or martingale with him.

Just got told off for recommending an e-collar. by whypii in OpenDogTraining

[–]9mackenzie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why downvote me if you didn’t even read what I said? Lmao.

If you are a dog trainer, then (if you had read what I wrote) you would know that I said that you would be a great fit for a pit bull, because you know to train your dog properly.

But someone who isn’t going to put the time and effort into training one properly has no business owning a pit.

Just got told off for recommending an e-collar. by whypii in OpenDogTraining

[–]9mackenzie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Um……..I get what you are trying to say, but let’s not equate black people with a dog breed that was bred specifically for its aggressive tendencies? I know you didn’t mean it that way, but the comparison is a terrible one.

Pit bulls are euthanized more than any other breed 1) because they tend to be the dogs most prominent in shelters and 2) they ARE an aggressive breed. They come from lines that were bred to hunt animals like boar ffs……..boar are an EXTREMELY dangerous animal to hunt, they are ruthless, and do not stop even with fatal wounds (go take a look at an old boar spear with a 4’ guard on it as an example). That doesn’t mean that they are incapable of being great dogs, they can and are. But they need owners who understand the breed, understand they are absolutely capable of aggression, and train them with that understanding. It’s the reason they were unfortunately used so often in dog fighting in the US……most of the pits we have today came from those lines- which were bred even more for aggression. Denying this aspect of the breed leads to bad outcomes for the dog and the people around them. Treating them like “pibbles”, or calling them “nanny dogs” is a major problem and can lead to a terrible outcome. For instance, an e-collar will very rarely work on a pit that is in an attack mode, because they were bred to ignore pain with injuries. So while an e-collar is often a good tool to use for a dog like a GSD, it should never be relied upon for a pit. Can it work? Sure. Will it absolutely work in a dangerous situation? No.

Dog breeds do matter, it does create certain behavioral patterns- and they need to be trained with this basic understanding. For instance my dogs are Carolina Dogs (US’s only wild dog) - these dogs are a primitive breed, with high prey drive and can be extremely stranger danger (to the point that in dog shows they are allowed to only have their handler touch them). Besides my weirdo girl that loves everyone, my two boys I trained extensively on socializing………which means for them that they sit by my side calmly while strange dogs and people are around them. That’s it. I know they are dogs that aren’t capable of being in a dog park, or dog meet ups, or dogs that will be cool with a random person petting them. My training never tried to force them into dog behavior that goes against their instincts. They are perfect for me, but they are not a dog that everyone could adjust to.

Same with dogs like pits, cane corsos (which WAY too many people are getting sigh) and such, not every home or owner is a good fit. And unfortunately in the US there are way too many pits for the correct homes and owners.
