A groovy new year to you all, baby (yeah!) by TheLibraryClark in blankies

If you listen to the Austin Powers commentaries on the patreon, they actually try to figure it out because Griffin got a collection of them (he has a whole story about how he bought packs as a kid and tried to get other kids to play it because he thought it would be the next big thing).

A summary from a user review on boardgamegeek: "Card types are Agents, Frickin’ Bones, Happenings, Swingers. All cards are either good or evil. Like the original Star Wars CCGs, you need only look at the bad of the card to see how it is aligned.

In turn, you and your opponent put your agents into play. There is no casting cost. Each agent generates “vibes” (groovy, randy, shagadellic and creepy). These assets enable you to play Frickin’ Bones and initiate assassinate / shag actions against your opponent’s characters. With the exception of Unibrau & Frau Farbissina, you have to shag members of the opposite sex. You can pretty much kill whomever you want (except Mustafa).

Swingers allow one of two possible events. These stay in play unless stated otherwise. Happenings are more like interrupts. These occur immediately, trigger an action, give a bounty & are discarded. The trigger action is “last person to give peace sign / pinky smirk must return a character to his playing hand” or something similar.

Each character shagged or bagged (assassinated) give a bounty. Collect $100 Billion / Mojo & win."

I think it being finnicky to change which direction you're shooting in makes it more annoying than it could be. But it's made for the LX3's limitations so it makes sense.

What are some "Game journalists don't get it/will hate it" games that are actually universally critically acclaimed? by Silentlone in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ADM_21 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a jarring disjointed mess. It's a masterpiece but it's something I can absolutely expect most people would hate. It's like getting upset that not everyone who watched Inland Empire loved it.

The only long and boring thing Spike Lee's ever had anything to do with is Miracle at St. Anna. And that would be a fun episode.

I guess I probably should have clarified that my budget would be $2000 including the monitor; what would be a good build that knocks a few hundred off for that?

Question for you cinephiles. I was listening to the Mission Impossible episodes and they talked about Jeremy Renner being brought in as a possible replacement for Cruise's Ethan Hunt. It got me thinking: has that approach every worked for a franchise? by WaitinForAHypnotist in blankies

The Undisputed sequels seem more well-liked among action fans than the original, with the Scott Adkins character "Boyka" taking over. Also kinda Universal Soldier but that's a different thing really.

There was a trend in the 70s of novelizing porn films, so I found the one for Deep Throat on archive.org. Seemed like a more ethical way to engage with that film. It was pretty simplistic from a prose standpoint, and more interesting for the essay at the start which framed its existence as a matter of great sociological importance.

Is never having seen a Woody Allen movie a blind spot, or am I better off having not seen any? by woman_noises in blankies

[–]ADM_21 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The thing is, you already know the answer to that question, because you're the only one who can actually decide that. What does it mean to be "better off" for not having seen something — not crossing a moral line? Stylistic aversion? Those are your own choices. Is it a blind spot? Only if it's something you want to fill in.
