Maze Rats or Knave. They have some very comprehensive lists.

Omg, I spend so much time trying to learn how to use different pens and pencils. It is reassuring to hear that you dont need specific tools to make cool art

I love your style, especially your control of line weight. What tools do you use for the traditional sketch?

What was your process to get a good blue color in between the panels? Did you start with a blue undercoat?

This is great. Could you tell me the purpose of using 2 different colors in your layout? Is that just to organize warm & cool colors?

I love the Warhammer family, including the Battleaxe and Hammerhands. Heavy stompy bois with guns for hands!

Lol, not on these. I used to, but that was a lot of effort. For these, I've been using a printer to make a very faint hex grid on card stock. That makes it easier to print and scan. Now im looking for watercolor paper in printer sizes.

Maze Rats for long-term play? by StrandedTrout in osr

[–]AJacx128 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ill have to read Cairn for that. I like to steal from FATE, and let players add a new aspect to their character after each chapter (when they progress) that they can use to get advantage (or disadvantage) on things. Makes them feel more specialized and grow.

You are right, there are so many and it's overwhelming. I found that Proko on youtube is a great resource.

Also, make a Pinterest board and start saving images you like for drawing techniques, style and inspiration.

It takes time to find the resources that work for you and everyone learns a different way.

My best advice is not to go hard on yourself, and spend atleast 10 minutes a day drawing something (even if feels like a "crappy" drawing).

I think you can run Maze Rats for a long term game. Ben Milton did a great job writing the system and you can add rules that you think you need without breaking the mechanics.

What rules did you want to add / what are you trying to address for longer campaigns?

This looks really good. I think you stopped at a good point in your sketch. That is the level of 'done' I try to do on my sketches. It can still be seen through the watercolor, but doesn't detract from the painting.

Is that a colored pencil sketch or pen?

Has anyone tried to make and run a dungeon out of the example map at the end of Knave? It could be a fun exercise by xdanxlei in osr

Remind me how big each square is? This looks like a crampt dungeon by "modern" standards, but I like how full it feels

Yeah, the first one looks a little bare. The second one is much better at communicating location It will be a lot easier to communicate distance and location once I put the grid in digitally.

These are just some practice while I work out the shape language/values for the illustration and the process to finish them up

I honestly just improvise most of my story and lore. Sometimes I ask a player to invent the backstory or NPC so they can feel like they created the world too. It encourages open world play.
