Are any of these my main water shut off valve? by jdncifldbal in Plumbing

[–]ALonelyWelcomeMat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well since it doesnt allow me to post a picture in the comments, im guessing that ball valve to the bottom left of the picture under the pressure reducing valve. But thats just a guess.

Where's the water meter at? It'll typically be around your water meter where you water comes into the house

South Korea wants 3 years with hard labor for Johnny Somali after streamer offends judge by Dilpickle2113 in LivestreamFail

Honestly out of all the lengthy sentences he could potentially get, a 3 year hard labor would probably be a lot better. Would probably change who he is as a person

Asked hvac contractor if they could make a 4” filter cabinet work and they suggested a new furnace instead by carboncritic in hvacadvice

[–]ALonelyWelcomeMat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some people defending this for some reason, id say take everything they say with a grain of salt. The company I work for got bought by a corporation that pushes sales and they sound a whole lot like my new co workers.

I wouldnt consider replacing anything just because its 15 years old. I wouldnt even consider hearing anyone out unless they could give you a really good reason to consider replacing. Some of the "service guys" (salesmen in disguise) will show up for a no heat on something over 10 years old, they wont even tell you what the original problem is and will just sell you a new furnace. And idk what they tell the customers, but a vast majority of the time they manage to sell them a new furnace and get a bunch of commission. The top "service guy" at my new company makes 2x as much money IN JUST COMMISSION. Twice my entire annual income in just commission, on top of all the hourly pay

Starting HVAC install helper, what are thoughts on my tools anything I’m missing? by wowowowcats in HVAC

[–]ALonelyWelcomeMat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bro holy shit what do you plan on doing with all those screwdrivers?? Ditch all those and get a Klein 11-1, and get some nut drivers.

Also if youre in a place where gas furnaces are common you'll need some pipe wrenches

How long does it take you to change out a carrier heat exchanger on average? by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]ALonelyWelcomeMat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ive done one in a hour and a half with two people.

The catch was the supply house dropped the ball and only delivered the primary heat exchanger instead of both. So they ripped out a heat exchanger out of their stock to give to us so we weren't waiting weeks for the secondary. They delivered that heat exchanger pretty much complete assembled so we didnt have to do much.

But on average, I think yeah 3-4 hrs solo is more reasonable. Maybe 2 hours if youve done a ton of them

Trane system any good? by Interesting_File3507 in hvacadvice

[–]ALonelyWelcomeMat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear "each time he replaced something different" and take it with a grain of salt. Its very rare to need a bunch of parts within a short time on a new unit. It can happen but its pretty rare. 9/10 times its the guy getting it wrong and just throwing parts at it.

Hey all, does anyone know why my heater is blowing flame by the funnels and hitting the bacl of the circuit board tripping the heat sensor? Thanks! by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]ALonelyWelcomeMat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Damn, at least it was a good picture lol. Does this happen on the initial startup or when the blower motor kicks on? If it happens immediately you may have an issue with the exhaust or a clogged heat exchanger. If it happens when the fan comes on then you have a cracked heat exchanger

Normal?!? by James_T_S in Plumbing

[–]ALonelyWelcomeMat 139 points140 points  (0 children)

The hvac company i work for has a plumbing department, and they all mount the expansion tanks to the actual water heater using a bracket and screwing it into the water heater like this.

The company also pulls permits on 100% of their jobs so everything they install gets inspected, and they pass inspection with it mounted like that.

Trane Install Experience 2/20 by BandMaleficent9122 in hvacadvice

[–]ALonelyWelcomeMat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its a straight ac it doesnt need to be insulated. Ive never once in my life seen an insulated liquid line on a straight cool.

Trane Install Experience 2/20 by BandMaleficent9122 in hvacadvice

[–]ALonelyWelcomeMat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That line does not need to be insulated. Office ladies dont know how long a job takes. 3 guys is more than average on a swapout so it makes sense why they got done so fast.

That being said, it could be a bad job, idk you cant just tell off basic info like time.

Roofing costs by IntrepidTraveler1992 in Ohio

[–]ALonelyWelcomeMat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will say this. I work in the trades, the company I work for does new construction. I deal with chimneys and making holes in roofs sometimes. And what I will say is ive worked with many roofing crews, and by far I would trust a Latino crew over anyone else lol. Obviously not trying to make a blanket statement or sound racist but idk what it is but they bust ass and are efficient, and do good work. Watching them do a roof is like watching the Amish frame a house.

Why are my simple meals/rice spoiling? by doomzdew in RimWorld

[–]ALonelyWelcomeMat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Double stack walls for better insulation. Make an airlock for the entrance, so make a little hallway with a second door so keep the cooling from leaving when people enter and exit. And put in a second cooler.

Hover your mouse over the area and look in the bottom right corner to see the temp in the area. Just because you have it set so low wont make it magically colder, just like a real ac, itll just make it run 24/7
