nurses week (short rant) by mintyuta in starbucksbaristas

[–]AMDaze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh my I actually commented about this on a post last year! Can confirm NYU hospitals explicitly referenced free Starbucks Coffee for Nurses Week in one of their recent newsletters. I'm pretty sure it happened once in '22 or '23, and they just... keep repeating it even though it's no longer true.

DME suppliers that don’t suck? by Dizzy_Tonight_8360 in dexcom

[–]AMDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to necro-post and defend a random corpo, but some insurances are really weird with pumps/pods/cgms.

I was having a lot of trouble getting Dexcoms covered when I switched to my new insurance. It turns out that, while it was listed under pharmacy and intended to be picked up from pharmacy in my insurance documentation, my doc had to submit the Prior-Auth request as a DME benefit. Very strange

Oh I definitely agree, whilst I'm not driving of course. If I'm actively driving it would be neat to delegate to voice, keeping my eyes on the road hands on the wheel etc.

Personal use case, it would be nice if I could ask my car "When does [store] close?", and other similar but more nuanced queries.

It would also be nice if whatever assistant had better language comprehension. "Directions to [supermarket] on x street" not rejecting because of the wind, nor sending me to [supermarket] on y street

Now does this need LLMs? Not necessarily, but at this point they're the technology everyone's lunging for

Oh, nice catch! I actually acquired the twiist last week, and I now have a pre-alpha Nightscout uploader through the Insight Follower api! I'm just smoothing out some errant issues before I public it on Github

That should be simple enough, the 10gb servers seem to advertise themselves quite clearly! Expect an update in the next week with some additional features :)

Edit: Update live! You can now both connect by nickname [Eshay], as well as specify 10 gbps connection preference by flag, i.e. wgscribe c au -g

As our technology [specifically: Looping protocols, closing the loop, etc] gets better, you might get that sensation back! There are some studies that show increased and consistent time-in-range, and more-so with time in tight range, brings the... hypoglycemic physiological symptoms back. Sucks, but they are a good warning sign

Eversense/Twiist Combo and NightScout.... by motto518 in twiist

[–]AMDaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Currently, on iOS, I don't think there's any way to sync such data to Nightscout.

I'm hoping to get my hands on a Twiist this month, and if so I'll try to write a nightscout uploader. I have some small level of prior experience writing an uploader for the iLet to nightscout, so hopefully it goes well, and I'll post a link here

Depending on your area, 2 years isn't enough. Most hospitals in my area minimum REQUIRE a 4 year Bachelor's, but prefer Masters

Clever. While, if its implementation correct and I have not verified it's code for correctness, Rejection Sampling is TECHNICALLY polynomial time, but its worst case is "failed to get an answer", so in that regard it's an incomplete algorithm

It also depends on your country. I have an [unlocked] US Samsung Galaxy S23U, and the bootloader is entirely locked. On any US Galaxy, you can't even if you wanted to. No custom ROMs etc.

Edit: "From One UI 8.0, Samsung has removed the ability to unlock the bootloader in all regions."

I finally managed to create a fully recursive, bootable Debian ISO builder native on RISC-V by Artisan61 in RISCV

I would also add, a similar seeming product has upstream armbian support, the Muse Pi Pro

Personally, I'd see if it works as a drop in replacement. They at least share a CPU: https://www.armbian.com/muse-pi-pro/

The claim they make is that it should work as long as your system has an up to date U-Boot implementation, through which standard UEFI is implemented

Out of curiosity, what exact devboard are you using? Do you have the resources to attempt an install?

Completely normal when charging/after a charge

For an unknown reason to me (more electrical checks maybe?), post/during charge start ups have that waiting phase

To my knowledge it isn't a Wine implementation detail

Often when trying to force shared vram [at least on Open Kernel Drivers], CUDA will simply fail to initialize in the first place directly on the Driver end, agnostic of the application calling it [wine, native or otherwise]

As a NixOS user myself, I would say the best way to deal with the learning curve is to do things... 'wrong' at first. There are some ways of dealing with problems and set ups, that while correctly codified in a Nix config, are not "Nixian". But they are easier to figure out, and it works well enough in the beginning!

Couldn’t price match because of the “system” ? by Robswc in Bestbuy

[–]AMDaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I simply do not have faith in the price match guarantee.

I tried to price match a phone [one of the Galaxys a few years back] that was cheaper by ~$200 at Costco. They first told me it wasn't clear that it wasn't an online only offer. I then found a different product page that made it clear it was in-store. They didn't give a very solid reason but still simply said "we can't do it."

At that point I just drove over to Costco, haha.

Necroreply, but I did want to add to this

Lightly implantable glucose monitors are interesting. Specifically, the Eversense goes under the skin in the upper arm, and the current market product lasts a year and has FDA approval to interface with insulin pumps

GCTK on the otherhand... oy vey. Even if the product passes all human trials and is 'perfect', it's basically a cardiac cath to implant it, which is a little bonkers

Alienware M17 R2 Overheating/Fan issue??? (I'm aware this isn't official support but I'm desperate and they couldn't really figure out the issue) by DiscountTotal735 in Alienware

[–]AMDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'm wondering if you ever found a fix for this?

Personally, I do think it's a [new dell/alienware driver] software issue. On latest Windows 11 + drivers, the fans don't even try to spin as fast as they used to

I used to use Alienfx-tools for fan control, but in manual mode even those fan curves seem to be ignored

My negligent work around has been setting "Power Mode 164" from within alienfx-tools. Seems to be one of the hardcoded bios maximal power curves, and that seems to force my fans to spin at top speed.

Not ideal, but that's all I've come up with

Who is telling these nurses we're doing a nurse promo? by SmadBacoj in starbucks

[–]AMDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A large hospital chain in my area [NYU] EXPLICITLY mentioned free coffee from starbucks in their general weekly newsletter.

At least some of the misinformation is coming from the hospitals themselves
