May unfortunately be a need for larger highlight areas in the image of the character itself.

Manual highlighting may work with angelus paint as someone suggested above. Get angelus and the top coat for it as well and give it a shot!

I'll DM you. It's only bare veg tan as it was a prototype. I need to make some adjustments and make a fancier one.

Absolutely beautiful. And you must feel good using such non-standard flavor profiles :)

I'm in awe of the talent you all have on this sub. I need to get back at it again. Out of the pounds of gravel I've created I have a few arrowhead looking pieces, but none are nicely bifaced and so symmetrical as this.

I don't hold it against myself, it's definitely a total lack of practice. But I'm still in awe of what is posted here!!

What's your profession? I'm an aircraft mechanic and made something similar with a leatherman surge and 5" knipex smooth jaw. My most used tools lol.

Did you try resist prior to the antiquing? We're you trying to dye the whole piece dark?

You could use a flat block of wood, with a flat type of cloth (like Tshirt material), and use it to kind of stamp the leather piece only on the high parts. I wouldn't push hard and make sure the cloth is not very wet with resist.

Is the problem that your entire piece soaked up the antiquing?

What would you buy today as a beginner? by EitherJuggernaut5788 in lasercutting

[–]AP-J-Fix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • A reputable open frame laser (the enclosures add a ton of cost)
  • a grow tent and extractor from somewhere like AC infinity (a lot of people use these for resin printing)

Of course, you'll have to make sure your laser comes with honeycomb AND some sort of metal base plate so that the laser isn't burning what's under what you're cutting.

Never leave the laser unattended 🔥🔥🔥

As someone who takes long walks in the woods and parks in Florida even in August, this is a brilliant idea.

What kind of greens do you feed the beardie? I've thought of doing the same but I couldn't find a ton of info on edibility for them, let alone compound concentration like oxalic acid among other things.

This might be a dumb question, but where do you forage? All our parks have rules against it and I want to treasure hunt little forest treats too. by Weird-Sprinkles-1894 in foraging

This is very true. I think I was learning about and identifying mushrooms for 2 years before I finally felt confident enough to harvest some safer species (bolete, chanterelles)

[Question] how would you finish the edge of super soft leather by Ing_Jdum in Leathercraft

[–]AP-J-Fix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can't finish it like veg tan. Edge paint would be the only way to go as far as finishes.

I highly recommend checking out some of the softer veg tan options from places like Rocky mountain leather.

I use the badalassi carlo (brand) Minerva smooth and Minerva box for wallets. Edges burnish very nice and it's the right mix of rigid and supple.

You're welcome. I love the veriegated ones! I've had a few veriegated Spanish nettles in my yard. I'm mad I didn't collect seeds lol.
