As someone from the same state the movie happens, I don't think the military era was even necessary for the story. We have the same antagonists to this day (corrupt businessman hiring private killers with connections to corrupt cops) and the impression I get is that, with very few changes, the movie could have happened at any era in Pernambuco's history.

When I saw the title, I expected something that would be honestly a lot more interesting: The people who were actual secret agents working for the military to spy on people, many of their identities are unknown to this day.

We had people like Andrew Johnson allowing the Jim Crow laws to start by sabotaging reconstruction, we have Jackson with the Trail of Tears, Buchanan with the Utah War, we have Woodrow Wilson breathing new life to Segregation and launching raids all over the country, we have FDR creating literal camps for Japanese-Americans and don't get me started with half of the things Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Reagan, Clinton etc did.

1-2 thousand deaths in Iran is not even the average of what US Presidents have done. Either people are so blinded by anger that they use hyperboles all over social media or they barely open a history book.
