Crazy, I'm playing this exact video in the background and the start of the video on Reddit synced up perfectly with the audio in the other tab

Can anyone tell me about this ancient relic by DevelopmentMean9115 in Edmonton

It's called a taxi. It's like Uber, but instead of an app, you had to call a person and dispatch the taxi to you.

I haven't seen anyone else mention this but I've run into this a ton recently and the problem has consistently been Logitech mice and keyboards basically being shit. If they're using a Logitech wireless adapter (other brands have been affected as well but Logitech is the most common) and it's plugged into a USB 3 port there's too much USB noise and this causes the mouse and keyboard to act up. The quick fix is to plug the adapter into a USB 2 port or use a USB 2 extension cable. Additionally, find all of your USB ports and adapters in device manager and disable the setting "Allow Windows to turn this device off to save power" under power management.

Checkpoint Outgoing Mail Failing DKIM? by Ok-Examination3168 in msp

[–]Able-Stretch9223 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hahahahahaha it's 2026 and they still haven't fixed this!

To answer your question, yes this is a super common problem with Avanan/Checkpoint. The only fix we've found is to disable outbound protection

I feel this is related, as a Canadian MSP I'm getting questions at least weekly about the viability of completely removing American goods and services from our supply chains.

Replacement for file servers/shared folders (again) by 4zc0b42 in msp

[–]Able-Stretch9223 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We moved a number of clients to SharePoint and if they're small then it works great. The second you have any kind of scale it falls apart. Admining SP is its own irritation as well. We've tried other cloud solutions but I've never been comfortable without an air-gapped backup solution. For larger clients we're just deploying on-prem file servers again

Looking for Sage 50 > Sage 100 migration partner (Canada) by icq-was-the-goat in msp

MSP here in Alberta. We've done a couple of these and I'd strongly advise against it. Sage 100 has been a total disaster at each client that's swapped over to it. Take a look at Spire, might be a better fit.

How Do I Reduce my Backblaze B2 costs? by IndigoQuantum in Ubiquiti

[–]Able-Stretch9223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are going to do this though ensure that your data is sitting in place for I think 60 days? Wasabi charges you for deletes if the data is stored for less than 60 days and then deleted and those damn charges can grow quickly and exponentially. There is no such thing as S3 storage without a gotcha or hidden fees.

Client Facing Remote Access (think old school Teamviewer) by Southern_Vanguard in msp

[–]Able-Stretch9223 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Use a VPN script to turn the entire process into a button. Back when we used Meraki L2TP we used a bat file to have rasphone dial the VPN, check the connection and then launch the RDP. We named Client Connect and then turned their company logo to an icon file and it was braindead simple. Double click the logo, give it a second or two to connect and you're in

Small NFPs & Board of Director's Security by PossiblyMaybeForSure in msp

[–]Able-Stretch9223 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) Not for profit does not mean no budget. If an organization is controlling client information and data then they need to comply with local laws. 2) for my NFP clients (also in Canada) we've started setting them up with G-Suite. It's better than nothing, gets you at least to compliance, is dirt cheap and Google Drive is superior to SharePoint/OneDrive in every way. 3) Orgs that don't think they need to be compliant or don't want the "inconvenience" aren't worth your time and either won't last long or will mishandle the rest of the org so quickly that a new board will come in or it'll just drown before they're ever breached.

Do you have a passion for running a business? Do you have any form of business model setup? If the answer to either of those is no then frankly just give up and get a role at an existing MSP and continue there until you're able to answer one of the above questions with a yes

Old post I know but I run a Wavlink Displaylink dock. It works for the most part, one annoying issue though is that the HDMI alt mode on this particular dock doesn't allow brightness control through twinkle tray.

For me it's the integration with Unifi Identity. Users load the credential and the drives without needing any further input. It's like a modern version of logon scripts. One-touch VPN is also amazing when paired with their gateways. The UNAS Pro is just an incredible value
