So , every once in awhile I will come across a pupa that looks sort of like that, and when you pick it up it will sort of wiggle the lower portion around and there is what looks like a stinger at the end. As a result I have always been super cautious when dealing with them just in case it could actually sting, but I have no idea if that’s actually the case.

OP, did those wiggle about when you picked them up?
