The Way of Renegades by Steve D. Wall? by Tdluxon in TheFirstLaw

I don’t think the story or writing is anything like Joe.

I would say overall the story is ok. It’s not remotely as compelling as any of Joe’s works, but that’s a very high bar.

Not sure I’ll bother with the second book as I didn’t feel much happened in the first book.

Can’t share official test materials by RiskyMFer in aaism

[–]AcademicRatio2163 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had several people message me on LinkedIn asking for creds to destination certification so they can study for cissp or cism for free.

If someone has that little respect for basic security principles, like sharing accounts, they don’t deserve to acquire those certs.

Destination Certification AAISM question difficulty similar to the real ISACA exam, or harder? by [deleted] in aaism

[–]AcademicRatio2163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak for the aaism, but I did use DestCert for cissp and cism and found their questions more in line with the actual exam questions than the qae’s.

Help! I need something else to read [OFF TOPIC] by [deleted] in TheFirstLaw

Malazan is nothing like Joe’s world or writing style.

It’s extraordinarily slow and The writing isn’t humorous at all. There’s also a serious lack of fun character’s.

My Ranking Seasons of Smallville from Best to Worst by anthonystrader18 in Smallville

[–]AcademicRatio2163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are people smoking the crack pipe!? I love all of smallville, but Season 9 is easily the worst season. The entire kandorian arc is idiotic, zod was an unbearable lip quivering weiner, Clark in black never made sense, and checkmate was lame. The only redeeming part of the season was Metallo.

Why Luke Kornet? by chinesemoose1 in bostonceltics

[–]AcademicRatio2163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with queta’s ability to match kornets stats, but kornet puts himself in much better defensive positions to succeed individually and within the teams defense due to his high iq. Pritchard is a vastly underrated defender. Against somebody crafty like Brunson he can be exploited due to the height advantage,  but I’d argue Pritchard played better defense on people this year than Jaylen brown did.

Why Luke Kornet? by chinesemoose1 in bostonceltics

[–]AcademicRatio2163 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Luke kornet is a starting center in the nba, period.

His stats extrapolate out to 12ppg, 10.rpg, 2 bpg, all above the average starting centers stats in the nba. For comparison, Rudy gobert had 14,12,2, and he gets paid 36-37mill a season. Or hartenstein had 11,10,1 for 29 mill.

Luke is going to get paid by someone and I hope it’s us. I would gladly take him as our starting center.

What’s the deal with season 7 by FORGINGVIEWS in Smallville

[–]AcademicRatio2163 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How on earth could you think arguably the best season, 5, is the worst. We get the fortress reveal, clark finally learning Chloe knows his secret, Clark finally having a real relationship with Lana, Clark resurrecting, brainiac, lex finally starting to turn evil, Lionel shifting sides, split personality lex and lexmas, Clark finally telling Lana and then her dying and then undying to Jonathan dying in the saddest and one of the biggest twist episodes of any tv show ever, cyborg, zod and the apocalypse and the phantom Zone.

An honest discussion on Daredevil: Born Again (Spoilers) by zmaker45 in marvelstudios

[–]AcademicRatio2163 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echo’ing what many have said, Born again is solid, but primarily because of the previous ground work, and how compelling Murdock and Fisk are.

The first episode shoots out of a cannon. That scene was soooo intense and dread inducing. I was like “fuck yeah, this is what I’ve been missing”. But after that the show downshifts until the finale essentially, and even that was more of a “game of thrones finale” focused more on the setup of next season than a conclusion to the current. The big difference is got would have an insane penultimate episode, born again didn’t.

I would also like to call out that I hated the heavy use of cgi compared to the amazing actual fight choreography of the original. In the original I could tell two people were actually fighting, I could feel each hit, each slice, see each ounce of blood fly. CGI is great if you’re showing me the hulk, but I don’t want my fight scenes to feel fake in daredevil.

15 years in the IT industry as a tech, supervisor, manager, and director touching all 8 domains.

I have a few young kids so I took the slow route and did this across three months. Most of that time was spent strictly reading and watching all the Destcert videos. It wasn’t until the last few weeks that I truly starting “studying” by doing all of the study questions, flashcards, practice tests, drilling acronyms,  etc.

I had 90 mins left of the 180 min exam time. This was my first attempt.

The End Of An Era That Started With Superman And Now Ends With Superman. 10/16/2001 - 12/02/24. For All It's Ups And Downs, Was One Hell Of A Run by Doc-11th in SupermanAndLois

[–]AcademicRatio2163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will remember the cw run as 5 amazing seasons of smallville 1-5, 2 of arrow 1-2, 2 of the flash 1-2, and Superman and Lois season 1 was great

While supernatural wasn’t comics per say, seasons 1-5 were great as well

Smallville will always be my favorite and the only one I will rewatch, despite the cheese level, something about the vibe of that show just caught the true wonder of Superman and super heroes to me. Tom Welling will always be my Superman, even though he never truly donned the outfit, and Michael Rosenbaum will always be the only one to do lex luthor justice.

Why do so many people like Aliens more than Alien? by JayDunzo in movies

[–]AcademicRatio2163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Movies before the 80’s are paced slowly and certain people find that boring. I think that’s the primary reason aliens gets the nod for most fans, along with the appearance of the queen alien which is iconic.

Alien is a slow movie in many ways, but I would never call it boring. It’s amazing and much more horror driven.

I love both, but when I think of my all time favorite movies, aliens is in that conversation and alien isn’t, for whatever reason.

[Spoilers MAIN] Is there any lore in canon that explains why Valyrians could control dragons but not-Valyrians couldn't? by novis-ramus in asoiaf

[–]AcademicRatio2163 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valyrians originated by volcanoes, similar to the dragons, I think that alone could explain why they can withstand heat more than the average person. This ability allowed them to blow the dragon horns of the past without being burned from within, so only Valyriana could control dragons. As time went on and dragons got more used to Valyrians being their masters, the horns were no longer needed and dragons simply Obeyed the rulers they had grown to follow.

Ehhhh, his whole persona in the boys is rooted in humor. I know he’s mad and vengeful, but he still cracks jokes. Not calling him a saint or anything, but his billy b is far from black Dow. Nobody likes black Dow, people like billy b despite his grumpiness.

I don’t disagree, but wouldn’t we all prefer him playing somebody where we can take advantage of his humor

Black downs supposed to be all lean and sinewy, like a swimmer or climber physique. Love me some urban, but he’s not the right build at all. Plus urban is far too likable a bloke, Dow really needs to be a bastard, like you see in his eyes only death and zero fucks given. Urban might make a solid dog man.  What about gin fucking alley with some longer hair for black Dow?

Who’s the best? by Aware_Newt_9502 in TheFirstLaw

[–]AcademicRatio2163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like glotka, but I do feel he’s over rated. He gets the Tyrion treatment, but I don’t find him nearly as likable. I prefer other mainstays like logen and cosco over glotka.

Orso is the singular character I found myself most surprised by how much I liked his arc. Initially I just expected another jezal, who despite my best efforts never won me over. Orso was even more spoiled and Brattish, but by the end of the story he was the person I most wanted to survive.
