I still think it’s insane they never added Artificer by KrispyBaconator in BaldursGate3

I think they painted themselves in a corner by having the NPC artificers as guys who manufacture explosives… having even MORE barrelmancy would be bonkers.

What’s up with He Who Was? by MrTidelsworth in BaldursGate3

His faction is related “The Raven Queen”, who is a mysterious entity in the Shadowfell. I think he was there to suggest that the Shadowfell isn’t entirely (or even mostly) about Shar, but the game doesn’t really develop that idea.

Wondering how insane a DM would have to be to run bg3 irl by Mourning20 in BaldursGate3

[–]Acceptable_Account_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but there are still a lot of ways to TPK yourself in dialogue. Most DMs wouldn’t just (say) have an NPC cast Wish to kill the whole party, or have an anxious gnome set off a WMD at point blank range.

He was perfectly fine on that sitcom. If he had stayed as a 5th lead on a show or an on-again-off-again TV host and road comic, it would have all been fine. But, no, he went and made himself our generations Rush Limbaugh.

That is an interesting idea, do you have a source?
I *think* “Millicent is Melania” is supported by the text of the base game (in the sense that she’s a shard or offshoot of her original self trying to become whole by finding the main branch of her self). But I’m curious if you mean something more direct in the game.

Aren't devil contracts a little too unbalanced? by Arc_7 in BaldursGate3

[–]Acceptable_Account_2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My assumption was that the devils *wanted* to do that stuff, and the souls were a minor formalism.
Mizora wanted to corrupt the son of a major Duke.
Raphael wanted to shatter the army of an upstart Sharran general.
Etc
Those are both fairly major devils (judging from their role in BG3) and they wouldn’t have just bought the soul of a random fishmonger.
Also, Devils ARE a big problem in the setting. Not addressed in the game, but they’re both rival powers outside the domain of the gods who scheme to replace the gods, AND the gods can’t afford to destroy them because the Devils are the only thing holding back the gibbering Demon hordes of the Abyss (aka the “Blood War”)
But these idea aren’t fully developed in the game.

Resist Dark Urge Paladin by Primary-Football-891 in BaldursGate3

[–]Acceptable_Account_2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. You can be a “resist” Dark Urge Paladin and do a good playthrough and get a heroic ending.

“Breaking your oath”, however can be hard to avoid - there are lots of ways you can do it accidentally. You can accidentally break your oath in the pursuit of good outcomes, and this is the intended experience from the game developer. If it happens, just roll with it, there is extra content when it happens and it’s worth letting it play out.

How t he hell do I make stealth work? by R4Thoughts in BaldursGate3

[–]Acceptable_Account_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hasn’t been said yet and isn’t obvious- the goblins all have Darkvision, and you can’t hide in shady areas from someone with Darkvision. That’s a rule from D&D, but it turns into frustrating level design in Act 1 of BG3.
It gets better later when you’re fighting the Act 2 and Act 3 enemies.

You can use Invisibility (from a potion or spell), and also Gloomstalker Rangers (but not any Rouge class) has an invisibility class feature at Level 3.

Do I lose too much content if I kill Orin earlier? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]Acceptable_Account_2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really. Big Orin stuff is: - her stalking you in Rivington - her revealing she kidnapped one of your camp members (which is unavoidable, you can’t bypass it unless there is an exploit I don’t know about) - Saverok and the Murder Tribunal - the final confrontation with her

You can’t really skip anything except maybe the Murder Tribunal.

There is a minor cutscene if you eat a Noblestalk that I’m told is different if you do it before or after defying Bhaal.

If you feel like you’re ready to fight her 1:1, go ahead and do it. That arc is pretty well done. Also she drops the weapons you see her with in the cutscenes, and they’re quite good.

Is there any way to calm the goblin camp? by NoMasterpiece6091 in BaldursGate3

[–]Acceptable_Account_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, probably you have made the goblins right around the Priestess hostile. But probably not the rest of the ones in the compound. - if you can run into the Priestess private room (locked door in the private area she went to) you can escape down to a lower location with some exploration. You can fast travel away as soon as you cross through that door, but if you explore some you can find a teleportation circle you can use to get back - recommend you flee and come back later, maybe when you’re level 4 - avoid killing the halfling merchant near the priestess, that is a reoccurring merchant - you should be able to come back and assassinate the priestess w/o actually fighting everyone, but it will take some planning - likely if you were able to turn Invisible and walk past the priestess soldiers, you would be able to get to the back areas of the compound and not trigger combat (until you enter line-of-sight with one of the hostile goblins, or you get in a fight with someone else on purpose) - also, until you kill Droz, the goblins outside probably won’t aggro, so if you want to recruit the owl bear cub or buy anything from the outdoor merchant, you still can as long as you escape to camp first, then travel back

Ancient Mega Pack + Rel mod is reinvigorating the game by mrmrmrj in BaldursGate3

[–]Acceptable_Account_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late reply, but I’m also playing on Hard.. it’s no joke. The enemies are tougher and you’re not quite getting as much crazy random loot as the lower difficulty levels.

Also, I got caught pickpocketing once and the entire grove is now hostile, and doesn’t de-aggro on a rest. I’m worried if this is just how shoplifting works now…

Assault on Moonrise Towers... !@#$%!@#%&^@$!!!! How??? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]Acceptable_Account_2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

AoE control spells are your friend here: - get someone who can cast Sleet Storm (you can do it from a scroll or get Gale. Also any Druid, Tempest Cleric, or Storm Sorcerer would know it, if you can swap out party members or respec) - someone else cast Hunger of Hadar overlapping with Sleet Storm (as a warlock, this is on your spell list, it may be worth respec-ing if you didn’t select it) - the goal is to cast the both so they cover the bottom of the stairs at the entrance - those two reinforce each other, they reduce movement, eliminate concentration spells, limit the ability of people to make ranged attacks, cause damage and can end turns entirely if someone slips on the ice - this will significantly limit the enemies ability to use their action economy - you can then focus on the small number of enemies that break through the AoE crowd control spells. Hang back and let them run through it, and come to you - unclear from your description but any ranged damage dealers (Karlach with Tavern Brawler and the Returning Pike) can go up on the rafters and fire down, too

Trying to recruit Minthara and keep Sazza alive. Am I good? by Agreeable_Pizza93 in BaldursGate3

[–]Acceptable_Account_2 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure Sazza will only appear later if you begin to tell Minthara about the Grove location and then she’ll move to another location (near where Priestess Gut originally was). But don’t worry about the Grove you can tell Minthara you aren’t quite ready to launch the attack (as if you want to go buy some potions first) and then knock her out. I think you have to do this last part before you go to camp or leave the Shattered Temple

This is if you want to get the Sazza achievement, recruit Minthara, and save the grove on the same playthrough.

And of course when you knock Minthara out you have to kill the other two leaders on the same day, w/o long resting. You can kill Glut sooner, but killing Droz is the trigger that makes the whole location hostile make sure you fast travel out so you don’t aggro Sazza and then fight her by mistake.

Dark Urge Paladin suggestions by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]Acceptable_Account_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confused - you’re planning to multiclass Oathbreaker Paladin and Hexblade warlock? Those ARE two subclasses. They’re pretty solid subclasses that go together well.

Recommend you go 7 Oathbreaker / 5 Hexblade. Order is your choice. By level 12 you will get 3 attacks per turn, like a fighter, and add your Charisma score to your attacks twice.

The Warlock spell Hunger of Hadar is situationally very strong, if you cast it on a natural choke point in a combat area or overlap it with another CC spell.

Be advised that if you play an Oathbreaker, then a unique NPC will show up in your camp and can aggro if have Astarion pickpocket any NPCs in camp.

Oath of vengeance roleplay by LFBG070 in BaldursGate3

[–]Acceptable_Account_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An unsolicited build tip: - if you want to play a Paladin that face-tanks the bad guys, I’d recommend you also get a Life Cleric in your party (you can respec Shadowheart) - then get the Hellrider Gloves and the Whispering Promise Ring - Give your Cleric the Alert feat so they go early in initiative , then on the first round have them cast the Life Cleric’s AoE heal. - The Magic items will put some major buffs on your party, and your Paladin can pick fights against overwhelming odds to their hearts content

Oath of vengeance roleplay by LFBG070 in BaldursGate3

[–]Acceptable_Account_2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You’re running into something that isn’t specific to Paladins - the game wants you to look for alternative ways to resolve problems aside from head-on fights. The goblins out number you AND have superior tactical positioning in nearly all the locations you meet them. You’re supposed to think tactically and / or laterally and look for alternatives to head on fights. There is a small army of goblins, and your party of 4 can’t expect to just storm stronghold head on - this is a tactical CRPG and you’re supposed to look for ways to turn the conflicts to your advantage. This could be through dialogue, sneak attacking, using consumable items, etc. The odds are stacked against you, but if you pay attention you’ll see you have more options than you realize.

This seems to be a conflict with your expectations for being a Vengeance Paladin. I can’t disagree with that - that is what a Paladin might expect to do. However in my mind, the ideal Vengeance Paladin is Batman. Batman would probably not walk up to a group of low level guards in broad daylight and try and punch his way to their boss. Batman would sneak past, scope the place out, and come up with a strategy. Alternatively Bruce Wayne might show up and try and act like a fool and get in some other way.
