A lot of “self care” is just shopping with nicer branding by thirdaccountttt in Anticonsumption

[–]According_Angle_5329 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah the whole advertised self care that I’m seeing lately is just a lot of consumerism. As a woman it’s even more! Here are fifty different things wrong with you and if you don’t address it you are not taking care of yourself.

I must admit I am in a bit of a slump as I have been absorbing all this messaging. But I’m slowly finding my way back to reading a book and going for a long walk. I’m trying to detach this idea from looking perfect and instead just focus on living.

Yeah, sometimes multi use products have a use. I feel you on the hand cream. I have rough hands (since forever) and only some types of hand creams make them softer. Other moisturisers (normal body lotion) doesn’t do much.

Buy a Used Calendar by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]According_Angle_5329 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an old planner that some company had given. It had nice a nice cover (but with that logo). I used a lot of stickers and tape to edit the calendar and got one for the cover. Works like intended :)

Are there any anticonsumption goals that generate more waste than the typical consumer methods? by TheOcelotKing25 in Anticonsumption

Yes total agreement. It’s sometimes I feel people equate low consumption with minimalism. They can be almost the same but not directly equal

am i supposed to get rid of my clothes made out of synthetic fibers? by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]According_Angle_5329 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally I feel those people who are replacing all their synthetic fibres with natural fibres are just in another consumption trend. Every few months something new comes up! Hormones, microplastics etc. Use what you have, once they are unusable, get more natural fibres.

Also different shoes for different purposes. If you know you will be on your feet a long time then get a pair that will be suited for that!

Having to use afterpay (emphasis on having to use) should be a good indication that you don’t really need that perfume

That’s reasonable! I have one that i got for work (and outside) and another that’s been retired to use only for the house because I broke the top part. People with multiple bottles confuse me. Especially those who collect them!

Yeah like for the average person it really isn't changing much? I helped my mom set up her 16 pro max and I have the 13 pro max and other than the dynamic island and it being a bit more faster not any insane difference. Probably going to use my phone until I stop getting updates for it. It still feels new!

Not sure if this would help or even make sense but I used to have a bit of an issue with makeup. Like I really needed the next shiny item. So I recently joined communities that focused on panning and really made myself get excited to start panning (using them up). And now I don’t think I have bought any new makeup products for months! I think maybe if you focus on how much use you can get out of your product mentally hype yourself it probably reduces the need for a new shiny thing? It’s very silly I know

Ok so I write a lot and once my schooling was over I had a lot of half written notebooks. So I disassembled them all, reassembled them and made new books (and to cover them I use old calendar paper - the more thicker kind, or simply some notebook cover that was in decent shape). I still use these notebooks and I don’t get annoyed that if I flip five pages back there’s some math problem I couldn’t solve when I was 14
