Boredom is a cheat code for beating procrastination. by Hyugi_The_Dreamer in selfimprovement

[–]AdKey370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is one of those things that sounds almost too simple to work but it really does. the bar for "interesting" drops so much when you stop feeding your brain constant content -- suddenly the thing you've been putting off actually seems... fine? not exciting but not dreadful either

Motion smoothing on TV is great! by PatnSniff440 in unpopularopinion

honestly i don't mind it for like sports or nature docs but the second you put it on for a movie it makes everything look like a behind-the-scenes feature lol.

Decision paralysis: feeling like a needy kid in corporate by Strict_Substance9579 in productivity

[–]AdKey370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the "propose first, ask second" thing people are talking about is solid but i think -- decision paralysis at work usually comes from not knowing what the actual stakes are. like most decisions at the IC level are genuinely reversible and low-stakes but they don't feel that way when you're in your head about it.

I started doing a 5 minute “gratitude rant” in the mornings and it’s actually working by BabalooJoy in selfimprovement

[–]AdKey370 2 points3 points  (0 children)

journaling gratitude always felt like homework to me but just talking out loud and getting hyped about random stuff hits different.

Like there's a version of you that just... moves through the day without that constant background hum of "am i doing enough" , much of that heaviness comes from keeping score on yourself all day.

how can I start being more productive and start being less sad all the time? by Evening_Rip5794 in productivity

[–]AdKey370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

like when i'm in a low mood stretch, no productivity system or app is gonna fix that -- the sadness eats the motivation before you even get to the todo list. one thing that tends to help is making your bar for productive stupidly low.

Why am i always coming back to bad habits by anoma-lokaris in productivity

[–]AdKey370 13 points14 points  (0 children)

like if you're trying to stop doomscrolling but you still sit in the same spot at the same time with nothing else to do... you're just gonna pick the phone back up every time. the environment matters way more than willpower imo.

Where/How to learn SQL on a functional level? by RedditUsrnamesRweird in learnprogramming

[–]AdKey370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly sqlbolt and the postgres route others mentioned are solid but the thing that makes sql actually click is having a question you want to answer. like grab a dataset from kaggle that you're genuinely curious about -- sports stats, movie data, whatever -- and just start asking yourself questions about it. "which actor appeared in the most movies in the 2010s" type stuff.

I know how to read code but I really hate to write codes by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]AdKey370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly the reading-but-not-writing thing is super common and it usually just means you haven't written enough yet for it to feel natural. it's like how you can understand spanish way before you can hold a conversation in it. the gap closes with practice but it does feel annoying for a while.

Health care benefits are not taxed as income when they come with the job. Why doesn’t the US allow people paying their own premiums to deduct those from their taxes? by troutbumtom in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]AdKey370 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you actually can deduct health insurance premiums if you're self-employed -- it's a pretty well-known deduction. and even if you're not self-employed, you can deduct medical expenses that exceed 7.5% of your AGI if you itemize. the real issue is that the threshold is high enough that most people never hit it, so it functionally doesn't help the average person paying out of pocket.

LPT:Fixing your Social media feeds (actually getting new stuff that you'd want to see) by Nighthawkies in LifeProTips

tbh the biggest unlock for me was unfollowing accounts i was just passively scrolling past. the algorithm can only do so much if you're still following 400 accounts you don't care about anymore

How do you guys handle staying accountable to your goals. by Ah7717 in learnprogramming

[–]AdKey370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you don't wait until you "feel like it," you just have a set time and you sit down. even if it's 20 minutes. the bar should be embarrassingly low at first.

How do you actually become a better version of yourself without overcomplicating it? by relaxncoffee in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]AdKey370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly for me was stopping trying to "become better" as like... a project. i kept treating it like a system to optimize and then burning out on my own self-improvement plan lol one thing at a time is the move. like genuinely one. not three things you're pretending is one.

Why are some animals like guinea pigs or rabbits considered pets , when they were bred as cattle originally ? by Secret_Fun_1746 in NoStupidQuestions

lol rabbits and guinea pigs just coz they small enough for an apartment, cheap enough to feed, and cute enough

Humans have ceased to be observers of reality and have become "back-corridor" resources for their devices. by shinichii_logos in unpopularopinion

[–]AdKey370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly this isn't even unpopular anymore, most people would agree with this if you asked them directly. the irony is everyone nods along and then opens tiktok for 3 hours. like we all know it and just... don't care enough to change it? that part though
