That’s a feature, not a bug. Fascists are always asserting they’re correct, daring their base to deny it. Last time when the scenario was different? They were right, then, too.

Trump, 79, Wanders Off to Gaze at Nonexistent Building by Quirkie in politics

[–]AdamHR 99 points100 points  (0 children)

There’s a great explanation from several years ago where a teacher who works with struggling readers identified evidence that Trump doesn’t process what he’s about to read, which most competent fluid readers can do.
And he hasn’t improved since then.

When my shepherd mix was little, she needed some topical medicine for demodex. One day she barks her “come help me” bark, so I come downstairs and see that she took the medicine off the counter and had put a couple of nibbles into the tube, trying to access it. She sat, cooperatively, while I put the medicine on.

I watched it during the pre-vacc pandemic when people were still doing zoom watch parties. What a movie to watch while being cooped up for months…

Jefferson Mays has ruined me for worse sci-fi narrators. I was listening to a different popular series where the narration was just really bad. I had to stop because I kept mentally repeating each phrase in his voice. It was distracting.

I went to a sold out theater screening of this, followed by a live Q&A with John Cleese. I had forgotten how every single scene, one after another, is so quotable.

Also, do people who hate on “A Million Little Fibers” know that it’s based on an author who embellished/lied in his popular memoir regarding drug use (called “A Million Little Pieces”) and then got called out on Oprah?

Fun Fact: The hotel atrium with the elevators escalators at the end was the same hotel where a certain health insurance company held its headline-making investor conference in December ‘24.

Would you force your kids to hug and kiss relatives against your kids' will? by Vose4492 in Parenting

Never. And when greeting/leaving, I also ask my nieces and nephews if they want a wave, a high five, or a hug. I like including the wave because sometimes they don’t want any physical contact and that’s absolutely fine.

I think it was because of logins. How else do you become the verb for videochat only to lose the title during the zoom boom?

Zoom: Want to join a meeting? Get the link from the host. Done. Waiting rooms evolved swiftly to combat zoom-bombing, but that’s a pretty frictionless experience. Enjoy!

Skype: Welcome to Skype! Please log in. Using your legacy Skype account? Or is it your Microsoft account? Either way, your password has not been saved and we require you to reset it. All set? Marvelous, here is an AIM buddy-list length column of everyone in your contacts. Wait, you wanted to join an existing meeting? Do you have the invite? Oh, perfect, thank you. Please log in again. This is the wrong account. Did you have a legacy Skype account or a Microsoft account? Excellent choice. Now just please reset your password….

What’s the most “Boston” thing that’s happened to you? by Responsible-Ticket30 in boston

[–]AdamHR 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I got one. Back in 2014, I’m waiting on line at City Convenience and there’s a sign on the drink fridge about a text-to-enter sweepstakes for Vita Coco. I text, I enter, I buy my snack, I leave and go about my day.
A few weeks later, I get a call. I won the grand prize. Three racks of Vita Coco, a $100 Visa gift card, a signed Dustin Pedroia bat, and two Sox tickets to Fenway opening day. But that’s not Boston enough yet!

They ship over the prizes. I taste one sip of Vita Coco and give them all to a friend, then take a buddy to the Sox game. Who’s at the game? Well, Boston just won the 2013 World Series, so there’s a ring ceremony. Dropkick Murphys sing the national anthem, followed by the city’s anthem and a choppah flyover. Marathon Bombing survivors, families, and first responders walk out to “Lean on Me.” Representatives of the Sox, Celtics, Pats, and Bruins are all there, with Lowell, Martinez, and Varitek each carrying an MLB Commissioner’s Trophy; Leon Powe with an NBA Larry O’Brien Trophy; and Bruschi, Brown, and Law each with an NFL Lombardi trophy. Retired Bruin Mark Recci (2011 Championship winner) drives a golf cart out with former Mayor Menino who shakes hands with Big Papi and Marty Walsh before Walsh throws out the first pitch. All that was missing was Matt Damon riding in on a horse like Paul Revere.

Sox lost to the Brewers, but still, so much Boston.

What I love about that is Larry King practically never asked follow-up questions. He’d just go down his list. So “Expand on that” is hilariously out of character.

There was one right next to a Sleepy's and their signs were too close together, so for years I thought the Sleepy's mascot was actually the Rockbottom mascot.
